Welcome to Baseball Extra, where every pitch, every swing, and every single game can rewrite history. Tonight, it all came down to a nailbiting heart stopping clash for the Astros. Their postseason dreams hanging by a thread, needing a win, and a little help in the final stretch. Could they conquer the Angels and keep their playoff hopes alive? You won’t believe the drama that unfolded. The tension was palpable as the Houston Astros stepped onto the field. Their mission to secure a crucial victory against the Angels in what felt like a do or die game for that coveted wildcard spot. This wasn’t just another night at the ballpark. This was a defining moment in their season. Facing them on the mound, the veteran right-hander Kyle Hendris in what could potentially be his final start. A legendary career potentially winding down and he was ready to battle. Could he spoil the Astros’s playoff push? Leading off for the Astros, the electrifying Joseé Elchu, a powerhouse at second base. He steps in looking to ignite the offense early. Pitch, swing, strike out, and Hrix gets him. A sharp start getting Elu to whiff. One closer to a historic career mark for Hrix. What a battle. He’s dealing. Another fast ball paints the corner. And that’s two quick outs for Hrix. He’s absolutely locked in, but the Astros wouldn’t be silenced easily. Carlos Cora steps up with two outs and he absolutely rips one past the diving Christian Moore into center field. A clutch two out base hit for Cora. This is the kind of playoff baseball intensity we love to see on baseball extra. He stayed on that pitch beautifully, sending a rocket right back up the middle. Next up, Walker, who sends one deep into Cinderfield. Toio tracks it, backpedaling. He’s under it and makes the catch to retire the side. A two-out hit, but that’s all the Astros could muster in the first. Now, let’s talk about the man on the bump for the Astros, Jason Alexander. This is his 13th start of the season and he’s got a big job to do. Can he hold down this potent Angels lineup? Here’s the challenge. Mike Trout steps to the plate. The tension is real. Pitch, swing, strike out, and Alexander gets Trout to go down swinging. A perfectly placed fast ball for his first strikeout of the game. What a statement against one of the games best. A slow roller to Carlos Cora and he makes the play look easy. A clean start for Alexander. A smooth one, two, three inning, including that huge strike out of Trout. The Astros’s defense is showing up when it counts. As we head into the second, Yenna Diaz less off for the Astros. He’s looking to spark something. Diaz hit and Diaz sends one sailing over the head of Taylor Ward. He’s heading for second and he’s got a leadoff double. What a way to start the inning for Yanner. He hit that ball with authority and Ward couldn’t quite get to it. Next up, Cole. Hendrickx is trying to put out this fire. Pitch, swing, strike out, and another strike out for Hrix. That’s his third of the night as Cole goes fishing on that change up. Just a masterful pitch. He’s absolutely dialed in. Another strike out. Another perfectly executed change up. That’s three straight KS. Now it’s up to Ron Aras with two outs. Pitch, swing, strike out. And he gets him swinging at another change up. Simply beautiful pitching after the leadoff double. Hendrix strikes out the side on nothing but change ups. He’s got five strikeouts already. Unbelievable command. Hoppy steps in with two outs. Nobody on and still no score. Both pitchers are absolutely dealing with those change ups tonight. Hoppy’s at bat, strike out, and Hoppy goes down swinging. That’s how the inning ends. These pitchers are putting on a clinic. Here’s Christian Walker who’s had the most at bats against Hendrickson in this lineup. He’s got a history here. Walker hit and he absolutely crushes that ball to center field. Toto is back near the wall. He leaps. It is gone. Christian Walker goes back to back games with a home. Are you in? This man is on a mission on this road trip and he just put the Astros in front. 1 Z Skywalker in flight. Little evening delight. Christian Walker continues his road onslaught. That’s 17 of his 25 home runs this year coming on the road. and he just powered the Astros into the lead with that monster shot. This is the kind of clutch performance that defines a playoff push and the momentum builds. Yanner Diaz gets into one towards left field. Taylor Ward is back on it. This ball’s OFFT defense. Diaz thought it was gone. He’s hustling to second and he’s safe with backto back doubles. Yanner Diaz is absolutely scorching the ball against Henderson tonight. The Astros need this to be contagious. Runner in scoring position. One out for Zack Cole. Cole hit that ball. Slices the other way. Fair ball. Yayer Diaz is going to score. Zack Cole with ANRBI double. The Astros are in front. Two-0 here in the fourth. That was a peach of a hit right there to keep that ball fair on a change up that never quite got there. A huge swing from Zack. Every bit as important as Diaz’s double. And there’s Alexander’s sixth strikeout of the game. He just tied Maruba on the all-time strikeout list. A historic moment for Alexander even amidst this high stakes game. A slow roller towards Short. The rookie shorts stop Guzman makes the play, but Aris is safe at first. The call on the field. Schultzer was off the bag. We’ll see if the Angels challenge that one. Umpire decision and the call stands. The runner is safe. No challenge from the Angels, which means the Astros have runners on the corners. Zack Cole on third. Ramon Aerys on first. Two outs. Aris goes. The pitch is up and in. The throw goes to second. Here comes Cole. H E safe. A double steel. Fo RT E Astros. Zack Cole gets in ahead of the tag. It’s 3-0. How about stealing a run right there. The old steel stop, letting the speed at third go to work and forcing the defense to make a play. This is pure baseball strategy in action. But you can never count out the Angels, especially with this man at the plate. Mike Trout number 27. Trout hit first pitch. Wy back and gone. Number 402 for Mike Trout. Boy, what a swing that was again for Trout. Another baseball crush. 107 mph off the bat. 413 ft. Just like that. Trout responds for the halos. And now Ray Montgomery is coming out to the mound. You have to wonder if this is an opportunity for the crowd to give a standing ovation for Kyle Hendris or can he work his magic and convince his manager for one more batter. Oh, he’s staying in. Love it. The best thing you can say to a manager, I’m your best option, he’s got to face Christian Walker, who homered off him last time. It seems like they’re giving him the opportunity to make his own decision on his own terms and he does it. Christian Moore is there making the play. Kyle Hendrickx is through five at the Big A. That’s special. That’s awesome. So happy for him. You can see the emotion in the dugout. Guys hugging Kyle Hendrickx. What incredible respect he has from his teammates. A truly great moment in MLB history. The Angels aren’t going down without a fight. They’ve got a one-out runner in scoring position for Guzman. Guzman hit and that’s going to be an RBI double for Guzman. Christian Moore comes in to score. The youngsters looking to pick up the veteran Kyle Hendrickx. It’s 3-2. Guzman drives in his third career run and his first that wasn’t a solo home run. Josh Miller is out to chat with Jason Alexander. Moore went out base runners here in the seventh. Guzman will be the batter. That ball punched into center. It’s going to be down for a hit. Good break by Moore. He’s going to try to head to third. The throw by Cole will be Oh, nth money. What a throw be. Why Zack Cole cutting down Christian Moore for the second out of the inning. A laser beam from center field. They didn’t get the scouting report. Zack Kohl’s got a cannon and he finally got to show it off. He charged the ball beautifully. Christian Moore made the decision to go and Zack Cole made him pay. Porter looking in the dugout to see if they’re going to challenge, but there are no challenges left. They’re out of challenges and it’s going to be Chris Taylor pinch hitting for Mona. Runner at second base. Taylor hit this ball head to right. Cam Smith on the run. Still going and he won’t get there. It’s going to be a TEI game. Smith drops the ball, but Taylor stays at first. Guzman scores the run. And just like that, we’re tied at three here in the seventh. The veteran Chris Taylor comes in and does just enough. Inside outing this one and punching it the other way. Bottom of the eighth, tied at three. And who else will be at the plate? Mike Trout has already homered in this game. Trout hit that is hit well out to right center field. Le’s Gio and each is gone. Number 403 for Mike Trout. His second of the night. And more importantly, it gives the Halos the lead in the bottom of the eighth. What a swing for Trout the other way on that one. He did get that fast ball and he’s playing spoiler with that swing. Now with 32 career home runs against the Astros. Incredible. Kenley Jansen looking for his 29th save of the season. The Astros have had some late inning heroics against Kenley Jansen in the past. Do they have any more left in them? This is it folks for baseball extra. The Astros’s season could come down to these final outs. Goes down on strikes. Jansen picks up the first out. Roni Eris will stride to the plate trying to hold up. Swing and miss and a swing for out number two. A three pitch strikeout for Jansen. The Astros are down to their final out in a game they desperately need.
