Well, following on from the amazing Forsomes this morning, we retreated to more fabulous golf in this afternoon’s four balls with the score sitting at 3:1 to Europe prior to these matches. Who put more points on the board for their side this afternoon? The matches started pretty much even heading towards the turn. So, no runaway front lines this afternoon. Ramen Straker was solid and good enough to beat a Sheffller spawn partnership that didn’t quite produce the birdies needed. And Ramen Straka won three and two with two losses for Sheffler today. What happens tomorrow with the world’s number one? Fleetwood and Rose versus Griffin and Dashambo was a tight battle all day with ultimately Fleetwood and Rose coming through down the 18th hole with a one-up win bringing another point to the European side. Young and Thomas pulled away on the back nine against Oberg and Hoygard and ultimately came away with a huge victory of six and five. The match confirmed my prediction that Cam Young could be the superstar of the US team and Hoygard may find himself on the bench tomorrow. Maroy and Lowry versus Burns and Canley was again another tight game that went all the way down 18, but ultimately the result was a draw and half a point for both teams. So the session score was USA 1 and a half points, Europe 2 and 1/2 points, and the overall score at the end of day one is USA 2 and 1/2, Europe 5 and a half, leaving plenty to look forward to on Saturday.
