Will Poulter’s words add more fire to the Ryder Cup drama? 🔥
On the eve of the 2025 Ryder Cup at Beth Page Black, Ian Palter reignited the long-running debate about the rockous atmosphere created by US golf crowds. The 49-year-old Englishman, nicknamed the postman for consistently delivering points in Europe’s colors, launched into a stunning tirade aimed at what he called the stupidness of some American supporters. Paltera, who has earned 16 points across seven Ryder Cup appearances between 2004 and 2021, has not featured in the competition since joining live golf in 2022. But speaking in a Sport Bible video alongside Tier Hatton, he pulled no punches. I don’t even know where to start, he fumed. It’s not heckling, it’s just complete and utter embarrassing. Mashed potatoes, get in the hole on a 600y par five. UF asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk idiot. The veteran even joked that he wished he could borrow a taser from security staff. Just to have one per hole would be amazing. Imagine hitting someone right between the eyes. It would be awesome, Palter said with a smirk. Though his exasperation with American galleries was clear, he contrasted the RDER Cup atmosphere with the Open Championship where he insisted spectators behave with more respect. It’s only in America that the stupidness comes out. It’s just so annoying. There’s no need for it,” he added. Yet, Palter also admitted that the raw energy of US crowds makes the competition unique, saying he was not trying to discredit every fan. This year’s contest promises to be especially fiery. Team Europe, led by Captain Luke Donald, has dominated the event in the 21st century, winning eight of the last 11 editions. However, only two of those victories came on US soil, and bookmakers make Team USA the favorites once again. Donald has even armed his players with VR headsets to simulate the hostile chance and taunts awaiting them in New York. Former Rder Cup star Andrew Coltart though went further, warning European families to avoid the course entirely for fear of horrific abuse. Still, not every player has been rattled. John Rahm, the reigning Masters champion, laughed off a crowd members cheeky oric jab, insisting, “So far, it’s been funny. People can be really creative.” As Friday’s first tea approaches, one thing is certain. If Palter’s words are anything to go by, Europe’s veterans still expect the American galleries to be as much of an obstacle as the U. S team.
