I’ve reviewed a lot of zero torque putters this year, but this is likely my favorite. This is the Lab Oz one HS. HS standing for heel shafted. As you can see, this is a lot different looking than other lab putters. Most lab putters have the shaft going straight into the middle of the head. This has a more traditional looking heel position, but it’s still zero torque. This still plays the same as their other putters. It’s just a big aesthetic change. Now, even though this should just be an aesthetic change, what I’ve found, and a lot of people have commented similar things on the site, is that this really changes the way this putter plays. What I’ve found is that this putter strikes a perfect balance between having some control of the face and also the putter kind of doing it for itself. With most zero torque putters, I try to take my thumbs off the grip, not manipulate it at all, and just really let the putter do the work. But, but that can be hard. It’s not always easy to completely let go and trust the putter. That said, I do want the putter to do some of the work for me. That’s what the point of zero torque is. And again, this putter just strikes that perfect balance. I found with this, I was much more able to get those long putts close to the hole and not leave them so short as I do with most other zero torque putters. So, if you’ve avoided Zero Torque because of the weird look, you don’t like that center shafted look, or you just don’t like the way they feel, I’d go ahead and give the Oz HS a try. Because though objectively it should be about the same, that look is really different and there’s a just a little difference in that feel that might make it work much better for
