The Mets play the middle game of the weekend series against the Texas Rangers. The Mets have lost seven straight since the middle of June. There’s 17 games under 500 they’ll hand the ball to Brandon Spro today for his second major league start. His first at Citi field. There ever was a lineup even though they’re hot to go right after. It’s the Rangers today. First start against Cincinnati didn’t give up a hit until the sixth inning but seven K’s through a lot of strikes. It was a good start. Two out. Nobody on that, Jack Peterson Peterson pops one straight up. Who’s going to take it? It’s going to be Vientos side retired Brandon Sprout with a 123 innings on nine pitches bottom of the first inning. No score. And it is Patrick Corbin out on the hill. Patrick Corbin, he’s making his 28th start of the year. He’s seven to nine with a 436. Er, a two out here’s Pete Alonso who has five career home runs against Corbin and Pete lines, a base hit into left field. Alonso has got his 18th career hit against Corbin and the Mets have a two out base runner vs one for four in last night’s game. Alonso gets set to run and vs this time takes ball four on a down slider and the Mets have two on with two out, a rough September for brandon. He does not have an extra base hit in 11 games in September. The other way by that’s a base hit. Alonzo will be held at third LD charges it and the Mets have the bases loaded with two outs. Now chance for starting Marte with the bases loaded and two out. Two veterans going head to head the payoff pitch and Marte takes strike three called right on the inside corner. And is that a big strikeout for Corbin or what Mets leave him loaded and going to the second Evan Berger is out number one. So now josh Young, the third baseman and Sprout strikes him out with the slider first strikeout for Brandon Sprout at Citi field two out in the inning coming out strong brandon Sprout , Alejandro Osuna delivers that one is lined out to left field, that’s a base hit. So Osuna does good battle goes the other way and the Rangers have their first base runner of the game. Jonah. He the batter rolled over to the right side and mcneil makes the play to retire the side, no runs hit one left middle of the second. Corbin goes to work here in the second inning. Alvarez mcneil and Siri Alvarez swings and misses at strike three and that’s the second strikeout for Corbin walks his second hitter of the game, come to the plate and there’s a swing and a miss, he strikes him out of the cutter. Third strike out for Corbin who popped up to josh Smith his first time up small lead at first. He’s not going anywhere and a high pop up in the middle of the diamond and this one will be handled by freeman. The inning is over. No runs, no hits. One man left. We go to the third one gone and that brings up Michael a little chopper to third with Helman’s speed. I can’t it. He beats it out an infield hit and the Rangers have another base runner out in this nothing nothing ballgame. Josh smith is the batter and he’ll flare that out over third that will drop in base hit. So a couple of soft hits in a row for the Rangers and they have two on with one out. Langford lined out to left his first time up and one on the ground past the right to mcneil the step and the throw for the double play. 443 side retired Sprout hit the deck and mcneil made the play third inning. Juan Soto leads off against Patrick Corbin. There’s a swing and a miss he strikes out Corbin. That is his fourth strikeout. Fourth inning with no scoring. Brandon Sprout has looked really good for the 1st 36 pitches. Two strikeouts for brandon Sprout two immaculate innings in their history. Nolan Ryan had one in 1968. David Cohen had one in 1991 1 pitch away from an immaculate inning and it’s fouled away. So less than immaculate diving stop by vents up to his feet with a brilliant play and getting Sprout through four scoreless against Texas. We go to the bottom of the fourth inning. Starling Marte leads off against Patrick Corbin that’s hooked in the left field. A base hit for Marte got on the slider and gave the Mets their first leadoff baserunner of the day. There are two outs. Marte moves over to third and that brings up Siri strike three called, four innings complete. It’s nothing, nothing. Francisco Landor leads off the bottom of the fifth. Drops down a bunt. It’s a beauty and no chance for young. That’s how you get out of a slump. So does fly deep to center and struck out zero for two and soto pops it up and Freeman waits for it one out. A little frustrated. Even the great ones, the great hitters get upset. It’s one man away one out, one on no score and Alonso coming up and he bloops one behind second Freeman over the shoulder. Can’t get there. Lendo read it. Well, he heads to third the throw not in time. A bloop single by Alonso. Now the ball gets free, try to score and he’s in the first run of the game hustling all the way. Francisco Lindor comes home and the Mets played one to nothing. Lior. Great read. Terrific. Read. Yes. 1st and 3rd. Now the mistake here is a third baseman. Come and get it. Get the ball is already safe. You got no play, come forward and get the ball. That’s going to be all for Patrick Corbin, a Texas Rangers team that’s made fewer errors than any team in baseball. However, it allows the Mets the first run of the game. The Mets desperate for one have themselves a lead as we go to the sixth facing josh Smith and smith shoots that out to left field, that’s a base hit and the Rangers had the lead man on in the sixth, the ball hit through the left side, that’s a base hit. Smith stops at second. The Rangers have two men on here. The tying run at second. The potential go ahead run at first. Josh Young was robbed of a hit by Vientos his last time up. One to young ground ball shortstop hall pass. Vientos backed up by fires to second and gets the 46 scoreless innings for brandon home. Sixth inning 1 to 0. New York brett Baty is going to bat for Starling Marte Beatty Rifles. A base hit in the right, so a pitch hit single for brett Beatty and the Mets have the leadoff man on in the sixth. Alvarez has struck out and grounded out zero for two and Alvarez gets hit off the hand again. My gosh, he appears to be ok. He got the saved him, cut it off the pad but he had more bad luck with their hands the last couple of years than Alvarez pitching change coming for the Rangers. They got the first two men on in the sixth. The left handers Miller is in to face Jeff mcneil fans a little riled up and drove back to second. That was a tricky little move right there. Rangers are looking to see if this is worth challenging. Nice move. Rangers are going to challenge it. Oh my gosh, it’s a perfect throw in tag. Like literally the glove is touching them as he’s catching the ball. Boy, he’s huge mistake after review, the runner was tagged before the base. The call on the field is overturned. The runner is out. It was a huge, huge mistake out for one away in the seventh. Here’s soto, he’s dangerous. Soto blasts one deep right field headed toward the Coca Cola corner. It’s gone. Juan Soto with a monstrous blast and it’s two nothing New York number 40 for juan Soto just one shy of his career high now and he hit it out of sight. Only the fifth me ever to hit 40 home runs in a season and he hit everything that’s a big hit right there. Big bomb. So the two veterans here coming through Lior with some hustle and great baserunning and soto with the home run. Eighth inning, Tyler Rogers will take over the pitching. Josh smith leads off catcher’s interference so Rangers get a free baserunner in the eighth inning. That’s not good. Joe Rogers with the tying run at the plate faces. Wyatt Lankford is zero for three but now first pitch swinging and that one is lined down into left field, that’s a base hit off and running to third. Beasley throws up the sign on the Langford double and the Rangers have the tying runs in scoring position. This game isn’t over the Rangers fighting back. It’s all 2nd and 3rd. Nobody out and Jack Peterson stays in the game, Peterson in the air to center field and Siri gets underneath it and makes the catch tag. He’s going to try and score. The throw is not in time and the sack fly makes it a one run game. Edwin Diaz has only pitched once in the last week. He’ll be asked to get the final four out and because of the losing streak, he’s only pitched , this is his fourth time in the last two weeks. The biggest four outs of the season for Edwin King run at second with two down, Josh Young , the batter and that one goes to the backstop and that will move Langford to third and he takes a turn and stops right there and Young takes a slider that just missed for ball four. So now the tying and go ahead runs are on base and now Rody Telez will bat for Dylan Moore and Rowdy smashes one out in the right field that is down and a fair ball. This game is tied heading to third base and pulling up there. Young. It’s an RB I double and Tole has tied the game in the eighth inning. Need a lot of belief right now. 22 as we go to the ninth, Diaz stays on trying to keep it tied and give the Mets a chance in the bottom of the ninth. Freeman leads off the 12 lined off the glove of Lyor and into left field and a little rascal freeman maybe starts a little something in the ninth. Harris will pinch run for him and now Helman showing bunt bunts at first base side, Diaz underhand, they move that important baserunner into scoring position. So now Wyatt Langford, there’s a swing and that’s lined to center base hit around third base Harris, he scores and the Rangers have taken the lead in the ninth. It is 3 to 2 and Texas goes in front for the first time today. They had a 2 to 0 lead that’s gone and now the Mets have to start over again. Soto homered in the seventh inning to give the Mets a 2 to 0 lead and SOTO hits the curveball into center field for a base hit and went down to get it. So soda with his second straight hit and the Mets have the tying run aboard with one out. He Alonso up in a big spot with the Mets down a run in the ninth tying run at first and one out facing Sean Armstrong his career , he had eight saves coming into this year and five for his last five and he struck him out two down now with the Mets down to their final out, Juan mauricio will bat for luis Angela Cunha trying to come up with a big hit. He fights one down the right field line. That’s a base hit cut off nicely by Harris Soto. First to third ball gets loose briefly. Mauricio keeps the Mets alive with a base hit, moving the tying run to third and put the winning run aboard for Nemo had the last walk off hit for the Mets. Nemo trying to revive the dream foul tip strike three and Texas wins the game. The Mets suffer their eighth consecutive loss, their longest losing streak since 2018 and they fall behind the Giants by one game in the loss column in the fight for the final postseason berth. The first time, the Mets no longer control their own destiny.

  1. El por un poquito soto solo ganaba ese juego, la semana ninguno estan de los Mets estan asiendo nada, solo juan soto en los momentos importantes hace su trabajo…. estan dejando a soto solo

  2. This game is a perfect example of why analytics prolongs losing streaks. Today Sproat was dealing & should have been left in as long as he was subdueing the Texas hitters. Analytics have ruined baseball, especially starting pitching.

  3. Soto went from watching Judge bring him home with a BOMB, to watching Brandon Nemo find a game ending punch out

  4. Will the Mets get swept this week? They're barely hanging on to the last wild card spot in the National League because Giants and Reds also lost last night

  5. There are comments here about the lateness of posting this. Be patient people. The House of Highlights replay is a POS.

  6. Soto doing the same thing as the guy who was the best player in baseball But the Mets are losing the faith to qualify for playoffs So at the end of the day could be the sane Mets with or without Soto

  7. 𝘾𝙪𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤 𝙡𝙖𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙨𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙖 𝙚𝙡 𝙢𝙚𝙟𝙤𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖 𝙛𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙖

  8. I hate watching METS games as far as fundamentally and defensively the METS have always been, just , you know, not up to it. The METS are extremely overrated.
Words from your favorite Keith Hernandez he continues to jinx them every year 😂

  9. They go from having best record to playing below .500 in 2 months. Even the wild card is looking bleak. I told every other Mets fans all that money for Soto was stupid. Should have let the Yankees or whoever have him. Especially, when Mets had very questionable pitching for the last 3 years that needed to be addressed.

Pitching. Wins. Games. Especially down the road once playoff season heats up.

    Disgusting.

  10. Soto posing after home runs like his team hasn’t lost eight straight 😭😭😭😭 No wonder they’re gonna miss playoffs dude only cares about his numbers. Zero leadership or humility or team energy. 700+ Million 😂

  11. The Mets always disappoint, if Soto wishes to ever see another WS he better get out of that team. They just shut down at the end of the season.
