The U.S. Ryder Cup aren’t the only ones getting dog-walked at Bethpage on Saturday. Amid an increasingly chippy Saturday fourball session, Justin Rose added a little sizzle to the European’s steak (and a little salt in the USA’s wound) with an early-walk birdie that Brad Faxon called the greatest he’s ever seen. Watching live, Rose started his pursuit so early I thought he must have missed it, but instead the ball keep tracking and the 45-year-old kept strutting all the way to bottom of the cup. Needless to say, the virtual peanut gallery, regardless of allegiance, was impressed.

We know America won the Revolutionary War, but we may have to amend the score after that one. That’s the earliest early walk we’ve since Tiger Woods’ heyday and, even then, Rose might have the Big Cat beat.
It wasn’t all for show, though. The putt gave the fourball pairing of Rose and Tommy Fleetwood a 1-up lead over America’s superstar duo of Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau as the afternoon’s second match neared the turn. If the U.S. team can’t flip that score, and at least a few more before the day is out, then Rosey and co. will be early-walking their to the Ryder Cup on Sunday.
