It is the best week in golf. I love golf and it is the best
week golf has to offer. If you’re if you’re a busy dad
out there and you are just rattling your brain for a way to
take it all in, I would even consider like throwing yourself
down half a flight of stairs. You just you’ll get the whole
weekend. You’ll lose Sunday with the
boys, but you’ll be Sunday in bed.
It’s just listen, you run through every scenario.
It it is out there. I am so fired up Pat I I’ve
support everyone even without a wager.
I love this event so much. My Euro Beanie, my my France, my
France pullover. I know it was a tough one for
the USA, but it’s absolutely gorgeous with all like you can’t
see it, but it’s got like all the holes of of La Club
Nationale on this thing. I’m so fired up.
I’m so fired up. Years ago I thought I’d be in
Bethpage, but I don’t think you could pay me to actually go to
Bethpage. I’d rather flow, throw myself
downstairs. We figured that out last year at
the Presidents Cup that it’s probably just better to watch it
on TV. Well, it’s something that want
to experience, but unless I have, again, I’m being a snob.
Unless I have like Creme de la Creme, like a corporate
hospitality, I don’t know how I could be on property with
100,000 people with four matches.
Like we, we, we could have got media passes for this and went
like we, it would have been the same as we had in Montreal, but
with far more people on the grounds.
Yeah, far more, far more people. Sure.
We, we could have gone with a media credential and that would
have gone, gotten Tim a free lunch and, you know, less
bathroom lines, which would have been greatly appreciated.
But I feel like I, if I’m at this thing, I, I don’t know how
you’re watching golf. You essentially spend your day
in drinking in a beer tent, which is incredible, which is
incredible, which I would do in a past life.
And at these prices, maybe that’s like a tough call for for
some younger people in 2025. It’s a tough ask for some older
people too. It is not cheap to go to the
Ryder Cup. Yeah, but older people, well,
like, would actually try to watch golf.
Like younger people just be happy in a beer tent chanting
all day. But I don’t like to watch an
actual shot. You have to be in position like
four holes, like 40 minutes before they get there, and you
just see nothing. You see nothing.
Sunday is probably fine because most of the course is being used
like a regular golf event, even though the crowds are are
horrible. Anyway.
It’s going to be amazing. I’m not afraid of Long Island,
rich kids and New York sports fans.
I know they’ll be rowdy. I’ll probably lose my bet, but
that home field advantage, like a New York home field advantage,
isn’t enough to scare me off of a roster that I think is pretty
freaking even. I tend to agree and we’ll get to
the odds in a second. And it does feel like, and
listen, the Americans have had a good success rate in the United
States. But when you take a look at the
past 25 years of the Ryder Cup, the home field advantage goes to
the Europeans. That’s where it makes the bigger
difference. Usually they’re in almost every
single Ryder Cup you could point to.
I would guess the Americans probably came in as favorites.
They’ve always had the better team.
They currently probably still have the better team.
I do think that’s debatable this time around for the first time
in ages, but it feels like going to Europe is such a shock to the
American team where, yeah, you’re going to have the crowd,
but I think the home field advantage is less of the crowd
and more of the course and more of the setup, which just tends
to be more unique and tailored when they play in Europe to the
European team. Yeah, I would.
I would totally agree and even with and listen, we acknowledge
it. Talk to our you know, Pizzola,
most of Sloan Analytics. I speak to him about the Ryder
Cup. He always tries to remind me as
I’m betting Europe through the year this year that you know the
the the top chief nerds will tell you the Ryder Cup is the
greatest home field advantage in sport bar none are none enough
that like the nerds don’t even want to step in on a + 160 + 170
even if they think it’s even because of home field, which is
mind boggling to me. But I’ll I’ll lose a few bucks.
That being said, Pat, I think overall now in 2025, the makeups
of the team are so incredibly similar in terms of player types
throughout the rosters that I don’t even know what you could
do now. I have no doubt they’re so much
deeper in the data. They know moving AT box up 8
yards back 10 yards can make a world of difference for the
second shot and who that would benefit.
I’m not that smart, but just looking at it from from afar, I
don’t know how you could set it up to benefit one team or the
other. They’re all they’re too similar
in player type. I would tend to agree because
we’re playing a Bethpage. It’s a super long course.
It’s almost 7400 yards. It’s only a parse 70 that you
would guess you would want the biggest bombers on your team.
That’s always when we kind of think back to what has prevailed
at Bethpage over the years and there’s some accuracy.
Guys can get away with it as well.
Like there’s two different ways to play the course, but it just
feels like the higher quality of that sort of player, like the
long and straight player. You have Scheffler and then kind
of everyone else and most of the everyone else is on Team Europe.
Yeah, I mean, there was an era where where Europe was led by,
you know, the Westwood’s, the Sergios, the Donald’s, you know,
the T Max. Yeah, Poulter, that that player
Poulter like that player type that got around a course
differently. It was Rory and it was everyone
else essentially in our lifetime.
Now it just feels like, sure, Bryson’s the longest, but Bomber
for Bomber? Like go head to head, but
basically the European team used to trot out 11, Russell,
Henley’s and Rory. I can’t argue that.
Like that, that was the player type, like an accurate players
off the tee, good with their irons, but they were always
going to be playing from farther back and that you could they
could get up and down and make some clutch putts.
Now Henley is probably towards the top end of that sort of
player with the way that he’s going right now versus like the
Poulters of the world. Like Henley in his current form
is better than Poulter ever was. Poulter just had the juice at
the Ryder Cup. Like Henrik Stenson’s 3 woods.
Yeah, right. I guess like who was the second
biggest hitter of those Euro teams?
I’m like, who are we? We might be we’re getting some
I. Guess it’s wrong because he’s
been on the team for ages. Now, OK, yeah, I’m almost
thinking about like the like the Medina era.
Almost they they would bring like Cole Sertz from time to
time, like you’d always get like a random dude who was in there
who could absolutely mad like Peters was on the team that one
year. But other than that, like it was
more that other type of player where it’s completely flipped.
Like the only like looking at the team right now, the only
that type of player really that the Europeans have at the moment
are Lowry, Straka. Hatton.
Hatton bomb, He’s not like the biggest bomber, but he gets it
out there. And Rose would be the other one,
Those three, I guess. Bobby Mack, maybe?
Yeah, maybe. But again, like I said, I don’t
know you know where you know the rough or or like I just don’t
know how the course setups. It feels like it’s the rosters
man for man. The player types are so much
more equal. I don’t know how one could
greatly benefit the other. Well, the odds.

right now. I think Matt Fitzpatrick, as
long as he plays, is going to fucking dominate here.
I think he has been basically the hottest player on the
European side consistently over the past two months.
Three months coming in. He’s been playing over in Europe
and playing really well at the same time.
And we’re not asking him to close a 72 hole tournament here.
He just keeps popping up with rounds that are awesome.
Where did he win his major? Well, he won it just outside of
Boston. He likes the Northeast.
He is long and straight ish off the tee.
He has started to solve that problem that he had off the tee
for like 18 months. That’s gone now.
He’s back to being Matt Fitzpatrick and he comes in
super underrated. Now, if he was the favorite on
the European side, you know, I wouldn’t love that.
And I need to see I need we need to talk through who’s going to
be playing with who to make sure that he gets the requisite
amount of reps out there. But I think if your team, you’re
up right now and take a look at who you like, your six best
players are especially coming into contention, hell, even 4
coming in, I think that he’s one of them and and you can get him
11 to one to be top European. His over under and points is
1.75. I like that over he’s head to
head with Morakawa at -110 I like him there and I like him at
overall point score 25 to one. If it was 6 to 1, I would hate
it. But out of all the long shots
here, I think that he is best equipped for this course in
particular on this team to really do some damage.
I mean, there’s a couple of things you said in there that I
can like, No, I mean. No, we’re here.
I, I, it’s so weird that you know how like giddy we get about
doing NFC win totals and AFC win totals because we haven’t talked
about football in like 6 months and we get all fired up for it.
It’s been like 3 weeks and I am just, I’m so fired up to talk
golf. OK, Yeah, it’s all about the
requisite opportunity. Like it.
Do you see him going out day one round one?
Because if you play great round one, then you’re probably going
out round two. And then there’s the chance to
do, you know, get them the requisite matches.
There’s a couple things you said like I’ll jump on instantly the
points over under even the head to head with Colin.
You don’t got a you don’t you don’t got to rub the inside of
my thigh to get me to play that one.
So those those I could be on, yeah, it was a strong case.
I would argue the last two months, just to pick one hole,
probably Tommy is probably the best European golfer in the last
two months in terms of consistency and form, but he’s
an outlier. The total points.
I don’t know that I. Can.
Get there on that. But if Matt Fitzpatrick is going
to have a banger week and that just sets up for for me to make
some good money. So here.
Here is since the Travellers Championship post U.S.
Open for Fitzpatrick. He’s gone.
T17T8T4T4T8T32T17T6 fifth 5th. That’s some pretty good freaking
golf. And he’s and he’s kept playing
like after the FedEx, he didn’t qualify for Eastlake, so he went
and played the British Masters, he played the Omega European
Masters, he played at Wentworth and just he came top 6IN all
those tournaments and those were good fields.
Yeah. No, I mean you in terms of form,
Yeah, you’re making a case. The guy is coming in like a
wagon. So here’s the question, Pat.
Like who who start Hoygard and who else starts on the sideline?
OK, so I looked back at this from the 2023 Ryder Cup and the
pairing was so Fitz didn’t play any foursome, which is the
alternate shot. He played all of the four ball
and he played it with Rory and they cleaned up in both of
those. He was Rory’s partner for both
them. So here were the teams for the
Ryder Cup European squad in alternate shot, which I do think
is the most important thing to try to figure out here.
And they did a very good job of like leaving people in and out.
Ron played with Hatton, Ludwig played with Hovlin, Lowry and
Straka played together and Fleetwood and Rory played
together. Those were the 8 that went out.
Now if they ran back those exact same 8 for the opening for
foursomes again, I wouldn’t be super stunned.
But like, it’s the Lowry Straka group that I don’t.
Straka, he had that lead like personal leave that he took off
the BMW Championship and he came back and he was really bad.
Basically. Since he’s returned, I don’t
know if he gets out there and Lowry is his most logical
partner. Lowry also not playing the best
of golf right now. So I think that is where it
comes in. Could you put Fitzpatrick and
someone together in that spot? The it’s the Lowry Strakis box.
I think that Ludwig will play with Havil and I think that ROM,
I mean, they’re they’re on Legion 13.
Rom’s playing with hat and they’re already teammates.
They know all about team golf. And with Rory and Fleetwood,
it’s like Dave, it’s not broke. Don’t fix it.
So I sort of agree with everything you said.
I do sort of agree with what sort of happened at the back
though. Pat, you’re right.
I think Fitz can. He’s like, there’s really no
logical reason Fitz doesn’t get out there now with the Straka,
hasn’t hit a successful Gulf shot in a month and I don’t see
Hoygard starting the day so. So it’s so it’s just so it’s so
it’s so then you have to figure out who plays with Fitzpatrick
and if any of those are logical pairings.
So it would be Rose and Fitzpatrick.
I don’t think they’re sticking Rose out an alternate shot.
I really don’t. Do you think Rose last year it
was the Rose babysitting Bobby Mack and Bobby Mack never lost
the match. Do you think that they keep that
thing going? That would be my lean.
Let’s see, they halved with Homa and Clark.
But it was a big half. I don’t know.
If you were, it was, then they’d be.
Half like and and sorry. They they beat JT and Spieth
together, so they they were too. So maybe that ends up being the
team that they throw out. But that also wasn’t an
alternate shot that was in. That was in basketball because
Lowry Straka played together in every alternate shot session.
So maybe that’s what they have them there for.
But why? Why wouldn’t you just go?
Like, even if you, let’s say you, you cross off Straka, you
don’t want him out there in that maybe you just go.
The problem is Straka is such the logical pairing for Lowry in
alternate shot that if you you have to play, it’s not like
you’re going to keep guys on the bench the entire time and not
give them any session. I think I’d rather have Straka
out there in alternate shot got rather than best ball, but
that’s me. So the only other part you could
look at, you could go Fitzpatrick, Hoygard,
Fitzpatrick, Rose, Fitzpatrick, McIntyre.
I could see a Fitzpatrick, McIntyre team.
Or you go Rory Fitzpatrick and put McIntyre and Fleetwood
together. Or you go Fleetwood.
Fleetwood Fitz actually does make the most sense.
Yeah, there’s so many permutations.
I don’t really hate all of them. Every time I try to play this
game, I’m really wrong. I do.
I’m all in on the Fitzpatrick over points.
I don’t know that you can really talk me into.
Him being like the true Tour de force, but it doesn’t it doesn’t
need to be though. If you’re taking his over of
1.75 points, you like that. Let’s say, let’s say he let’s
say he gets he plays three sessions and that would be bad
for the bet that I’m trying to make.
But let’s say he plays those and goes three and oh, I mean they
are plus 150 dogs in this three points might be good enough to
lead team Europe. Like if the US wins, three
points from the losing team is usually good.
Yeah, that’s fair. Yeah.
The Europe over the the, the top Europe at 12, the overall at 29.
Sure. I mean, I’m just, there’s other
guy. I mean, you could probably guess
where my bets are. Yeah, you bet on Ludwig.
So yeah, I just, yeah, I bet on, on the stuns of Victor, I got a
top overall at 28 and Ludwig I got a top overall at 22.
And I, I split those up with the with the teams.
So those are like, I, I cut those bets in half.
They might be playing together, but they probably are.
Last year they they they beat, did they beat Scotty Scheffler
and Brooks on like the 14th or 13th hole?
Maybe 12th hole? Beat them nine and seven, Scotty
and Brooks. And then Brooks got Ludwig back
in singles, though. So credit, credit to Brooks.
Brooks and credit to me. Brooks little life, little fun.
Michael Kim. Shout out listen, has there ever
been a better career move for any professional golfer than
just randomly coming on the Pat Mayo experience three times in
one year and all of a sudden you know you’re top 30 in the world,
you pick up a French Open win. So happy.
Listen, I, I, I, I had money on Guido to win and both the guys
that I had in contention, the French Open chest didn’t do
anything. Fortunately, Guido’s he ended up
sneaking into the top five with with a four way split.
So it was like a little bit of money.
Not not not enough to cover the week on the Each way Four ways
split, but I could not have been happier for Michael Kim.

I truly was thoroughly like entertained without a bet pre
tournament or live on that on that tournament on Sunday
morning. Go for all like the shit that we
give it, you know, like they they do play a lot.

Michael Kim, even Armitage, He’s like the golf dad body golfer.

the like French Open, Wentworth, we got the Dunhill links after
next week at the Ryder Cup, the British Masters, like putting
all of those after the FedEx Cup.
It’s perfect because it gives me something to watch before
football starts on Sunday. It’s awesome yeah.
And and the courses look so good like did the the the Swiss one.

whatever the hell they call it, the Omega European Masters.
It’s just, it’s so lovely to wake up and just watch golf in

It’s actually a more beautiful watch than than Pebble Beach

Pebble, there’s like 6 hour fog sometimes in cranes so you can’t

So like like -8000 to add, it does nothing, but it just lets
me make the bet and I’m a gambler.

was a there was a place that was offering a same game parlay, 50%
boost, profit boost on your parlay, and there was just two
legs of the same game parlay. I really wanted to play.
So I just took the lowest over possible.
It was like 13 points at -10,000 just to throw it on.
So I would automatically qualify for the 50% boost.
Yeah, so I know. That’s like true to Jen what I’m
doing and the bets like even I just they let me make parlays of
like $14.00. So I make like three of them and
it gets me to where I want. And if there’s like eight goals
in a soccer game, then I lose. But that’s that’s what I do to
sort of beat the system on a book.

these sports books won’t let me bet.

Here’s the truth of the. Matter not Fleetwood, No,

I don’t want to read too much into Rome, Pat, because they had
such a cushion. They could rest guys like just
I’m going to rest you. They they want 4 O out of the
gates. Like they could literally like,
OK, now we’re going to maybe like get everyone to optimal
rest this. Who win a?
Roadie that will be impossible, like right it will be
impossible. So I think Luke and Rory who
says only like 4 things matter to him in the world of golf they
will empty their. Tanks like they, you know,
everyone wants to win this so bad they don’t get to be.
How I feel about. This core group, it doesn’t
matter unless you win a roadie like that’s the only thing that
makes your group cemented. And I think they’ll go balls to
the wall and I think they’ll have to they will not have a a
scoreboard that will allow them to potentially rest anyone.

Shafley and Phenao twice together, which was really
weird. But then you had Cantly and
Burns twice together and those were for not.
Those were for best ball in both the alt shot sessions.
Cantly was with Shafley both times and they were one and one.
Morikawa played with Burns. And the gala.
So they didn’t get paired up the same.
So those would be like the only ones I’ve like reoccurring names
that come through. Rick actually tweeted out Monday
morning the guys that were out practicing together.
So you had Bryson, Griffin, Thomas and Young as a practice
group. Henley, Scottie spawn in
English, Burns can’t lay Morakawa and Shafley.
So if we can glean anything from that, it’s they’re probably
going to be paired together within those groups like the the
other. I I don’t know if it’s going to
be for sure in every single time, but Cam Young Bryson makes
a ton of sense. Yeah, apparently at some.
Point in the year they were playing the same ball, but not
anymore. Bryson doesn’t.
Even know what ball he’s playing at this point.
So there would just be I’m. Just saying for a level of
familiarity on that, that would be that’s so fun.

versions of that same skill set where I mean Morikawa and Thomas
really feel like 2 odd men out here with how they play.
Because ideally, ideally Morikawa would be part of that
group. He’s just not playing well

if you had to guess. 2 1/2 sessions.
I guess that everyone’s going to do 3 1/2 sessions for Thomas and

are incredibly close. You could sense the whole year

One of the best days ever I’ve had at a sporting event live.
And then like a day later it was just over.

property. Like you, you know if I lose a
bet on Sunday, it’ll get quashed with.
It’ll just feel like I. Made a really bad football bat
right like it. I love golf ends in football
season on Sunday The the Ledger just mixes in go Europe.
But I’m literally when I say I’m just cheering for great golf.
That’s all I’m cheering for and it is the best.
We are so lucky we don’t get match play.
I I it is better. We see the greatest shots.
In the world this week, Pat, because these guys, they make so
much fucking money and their whole objective is to just get
the ball in the hole and don’t make double bogey.
They’ll swallow bogeys because they know they can make birdies.
But when you get match play and your buddy’s in tight or your
opponent and you’re in a bad spot, we see wizardry.
And like that is something we just don’t get at any point on
the PGA Tour. And that is what match makes
match play so glorious. I can’t wait.

And I wonder who’s going next for Europe.
