Luke Donald has always been quick to thank his vice-captains and lean on their expertise, and in this respect they’ve got a huge advantage on Team USA.
He has former captains Thomas Bjorn and Jose Maria Olazabal, a furture captain no doubt in Francesco Molinari and also the stats guru Edoardo Molinari – plus Alex Noren.
And not only is Keegan Bradley a first-time captain, but Brandt Snedeker and Webb Simpson are vice-captains for the first time while Gary Woodland and Kevin Kisner have never even appeared in the Ryder Cup before.
They have just Jim Furyk with all the experience, as he’s a former captain and player appearing in his 14th consecutive Ryder Cup, but in the heat of battle at Bethpage you’d imagine Donald’s men could be key.
