Inside One of North Carolina’s Top Private Golf Courses – Sedgefield Country Club

Welcome to Sedgefield Country Club, home of the Windham Championships on the PGA Tour. And for the first time in YouTube golf history, you get to experience this place as if you were a PGA player. Let’s go. What a spectacular clubhouse. This place is absolutely stunning. This is where the players once they arrive via shuttle car whatever it might be helicopter Lamborghini teleportation they will enter these doors right here which you are about to experience. This is where the players will come in and register for the tournament. All players have to register. You come in, sign up, you get your little gift bag. They do it too. This is where that takes place. Check this out. They put some carpet down here. Why do you think they do that? A lot of players will wear their spikes in here. So, they want to preserve the hardwood floors. So, for you hard spike guys on the tour, no worries. You are taken care of here at Sedgefield. Just past registration, this spot is player dining. They hook up the tour players and their families in this zone. This is where you will get all your food. We got jam gif creamy peanut butter. It’s good protein right there. More dining. Chill out areas here. You can come in here for some extra food. Grab a cocktail. Stare at the fox on the wall. Love this. And yes, we’re going to show you the room, the locker room where the players will prepare to do battle like Aaron Ry did last year, winning this championship. What a beautiful clubhouse, old school classic style. Awesome photos on the wall of players from the past. Now, before we go in here, I know what you’re going to say. Matt, where do these guys stay? Where are they staying? So, let’s find out where they might spend the night when they’re playing the Windham Championship. So, not all. Some will get an Airbnb, but the ones that don’t will probably be staying right here at the Grand Resort, a Windham property. And one of the nicest places to stay in all of Greensboro. And of course, since it’s the Windham Championship, why wouldn’t you stay here? I mean, this place is pretty spectacular. Not only is there a golf resort here, but just a mile and a half down the road is the Sedgefield Country Club where the best players in the world will be tackling that course in hopes to be the uh Windham champion champion. I mean, any place with an automatic revolving door is uh is my kind of spot. I mean, how about this entrance? Is this No wonder why it’s called the Grand Over. It’s grand entrance. What do you think of this sculpture? Love it. We got all the holes from the east and the west course here at the Grand. It echoes right here. Can you hear the echo? I’m in a uh one of those echo chamber traps. like that. So, when the pros are staying here, they might roll into the 19th timber and uh nice little hidden gem here at the Grand. And you can be certain they are going to be well taken care of when they enter places like this at a fine establishment. Here’s your drink, Mr. Short Game. Oh, thank you very much. See, they know. Oh, fantastic. I don’t know if this is always here, but right now we’ve got the Gallery at Grand Theation of North Carolina Arts. And I have to say, it’s pretty solid. Look at this. A little Monae style. I know my artists. Little Pollock. Um, I don’t know what you would relate that to. And that concludes your tour of the Grand Art Gallery. Quick glint inside the hotel where many of the pros would find their accommodations to be for the week of the Windham Championships. Not all, but many. Now, you know what hotel rooms look like. This one’s just lovely. So based on the accommodations, you can figure out what it might look like inside. But I will see you back at the country club. It’s beautiful there, isn’t it? Now, the moment you’ve been waiting for. We’re going to show you the locker room. We’re going to show you the practice facilities. We’re going to show you the golf course, the walk up to the first hole, and the some signature holes that they’re going to face along the way from their perspective. This is my favorite part right here though. Come on. Members locker room and tour locker room here at Sedgefield. Let’s take a look. We have Davis Love Champion 2015. Photos on the wall. Camilo Vajas champion. Henrik Sew Kim. Look at these guys. Brandt Snedeker. Sergio won here. Patrick Reed. And here, champions lockers right here. You win, you get your name on the locker. That’s how it works. This is the kind of locker room I like. I don’t like half a locker and half. I like a full locker. These guys full lockers here. So, what they do is ahead of the tournament, they check them all. Make sure members didn’t leave any anything they should have left. It’s clean for the for the pros, for you guys. You’re the pro of the day. Now, I like this. Look old school. Look at the scale. What do you think I weigh wearing all my stuff? Does it work? It does. Look at this. Huh? I love that. Feel like I’m in like the 1930s. I don’t know how many guys are taking showers here. Maybe you will clean up before you head out. Maybe Sunday evening after your victory. Take a quick shower. clean up, hit the airport. But just uh classic. And here’s some of my favorite spots. We’ve got the the steam room here. Look at that. I’ll tell you, if I’m playing, I’m coming in here after the round and just decompressing. I got to be careful how I talk so it doesn’t echo too much. Now, I know what you’re saying. Matt, get in the shot. We’ve got stuff to show you. You’re a tour player for the day. Now, through the men’s locker room up here, you might have some players hanging out. Little upstairs, more private area. Some guys might come up here and just, chill out, indulge. Maybe not indulge, but nonetheless, you got this gorgeous view upstairs from player dining. Ninth hole. Enjoy this area. This is my kind of hangout spot here upstairs. Beautiful view. Cozy environment here. Onward downstairs in the clubhouse is another spectacular place. Is this free or do you got to pay? Oh, I got a pinball. The pros, I would imagine, are going to want to I just lost. If I hit it one time and it went down, that doesn’t count. Do they have the ultimate golfers video game? You know what it is? They do. Come on. Golden T. This game will just be nonstop 24/7 this week at the Windom Championship. You know it will be. Golden T. This is my shot right here. Watch me make it. pretty close. But there you go. Night golf. I’m not playing. But they will be playing. You would be playing. Right behind me is uh some place the pros will go, but mostly their caddies. This is a caddy dining here. This catty’s got it made. Got caddy. All this stuff for the caddies, beverages. There’ll be food over here for them. Pumping AC in here. We have espresso machines and stuff. You can make your own little latte cappuccino. Flavor it up. I can go for that right now. This is important. I don’t know if it’s important. Hopefully people aren’t getting But, you know, you get your stuff. Get your phone. Plug it in. Huh? Put your phone in here. Let it charge. Lock it down. You go on the course. Hello. T’s some of those. Let’s go. Now, this varies from event to event, but right now we’re on the range. We’ve got tour trucks out here, company trucks, nip on shafts, project X, whatever you need, it’s here. Ping. These guys travel the country tour event to tour event making sure the pros have everything they need. Their gear is ready to uh compete. Let’s do um Prov1’s Protach silus. Okay, sure. See, so the uh Prov1, Prov1X, Prov1X. Yeah, sure. This is where the tour players will get their uh their balls and you just say, “Hey, I want whatever ball you play. Titalist, Tailor Made, Callaway, PXG, whatever.” They got them. So you say Prov1X. This is where they’re going to warm up to go for the big dollars. Thank you, my friend. Yes, sir. Look at this. So, here’s what you get when you’re a tour professional or a YouTuber. Look at this. Titalist Prov1X tour balls. Tour balls. I kept one. He saw me. Let’s go. Let’s hit. [Music] We are at the Sedgefield short game area where the players will need um to spend a lot of time if they want to walk home with the championship out here. Tight Bermuda grass, quick Bermuda greens. You better have your aame this week here. There’s a hole two inches to the right of that ball or to the left of it. But that felt pretty good. Look at that. But if you’re hitting them, great. The worst thing you could do is live here. Go in. Because you can’t just practice the easy shots. The tight Bermudas I like. But this fluffy Bermuda, well, that’s a different animal. You could send that club right underneath the ball. And as you can tell, this is a trickier shot. Did I make it? Go in. Let’s check out Sedgefield practice area bunkers. We got some sand today. Now you see I have low bounce on my wedges, which I love out of that tight Bermuda. But we’ve got a fluffy sand which needs a high bounce. So I’m going to open that club face even more than I normally do. And if I’m playing well we are in this championship for today. I might roll to those tour trucks and take my 56 and have a custom wedge dialed up with uh maybe like 12 degrees of bounce on the 56 or just hit those kind of shots all week. Little pro tip for you since we’re out here at the pro event. Before you walk on the green, just knock the sands off your kicks. Huh? There you go. Stomp it out. Then you can walk on. This right here is going to be player practice putting green. So, let’s check out the greens here Sunday before the championship begins this week. Bermuda greens here. How pure do these feel? Yeah. I mean, it that didn’t bounce one nule. Look at that roll. No wonder they make so many putts. See, you can’t miss. I don’t play on greens like this very often. That would have went in if it didn’t hit my other ball. Did I make it? I made it. See, this is why pros walk putts in because you know you made it from here cuz there’s nothing else that’s going to mess it up. I think it was Tiger Woods that said Sedgefield had the best Bermuda greens he’s ever puted on. I mean, that’s Tiger Woods saying that. That’s saying something. So, after the guys warm up and stuff, they’re going to take the walk to the first tea where they’re going to get ready to win the championship. So, let’s do the same thing. This would be about the time that your game face gets on cuz you’re about to hit the 418 yard par4 first hole. Now, on the first te from YouTube, Mr. the short game. [Music] And then after you get started and you birdy this hole and a few others along the way, you’re going to face some signature holes come Sunday afternoon when you’re trying to win this championship. We’re going to show you those and see what awaits the ultimate champion. We’re going to play some of the finishing signature holes here at Sedgefield where the pros come Sunday, they’re going to have to face if they want to walk home with the championship. Player view. Here we go. This is 15 545 yard par five. It’s going to be into the wind. Riskreward. And I’m all about the risk and no reward. Mr. Short game needs birdie here to get in contention. We’re just going to lay it up. I got a long way to go. Cut the corner. At least we made the fairway. I’m gonna lay up with a sevenwood because that’s going to get me the most distance with the easiest to hit. And that’s what I’m all about right now. Great light in these Bermuda fairways. This is nice, man. I’m just happy I made the fairway. We’ve been traveling, sleeping in uh hotels. That that grand that grand over hotel is nice, though. The bed was comfortable. That’s perfect. I mean, come on. Perfect lamp. That’s what I’m talking about. Seven wood. Some of them will do that. The rest of them will drive way up there by the bunker and uh go for the green. I mean, it’s a eagle opportunity for the tour guys, but for us mere mortals and old guys, we’re back here. Sevenwood layup. Let’s go make birdie. All right, 91 yards remaining. Perfect layup. This is where money’s made. We’re in win championship mode right now. Oh, that’s that’s a good shot. Be good, baby. Come down the hill. Come down this Come down the slope. Come on. Here it comes. All right, it’s coming down the slope. We have a chance. You’re telling me there’s a chance at the Windham championship for Mr. Short Game on 15? Let’s go find out. All right, fast greens. Mr. Short Game has to birdie it the oldfashioned way. Let’s see what we got. What? Right to left swinger. Oh, he took it high line. High line. Sit. Sit, boo. and now needs par just to stay in the hunt. Bird’s eye player view 15 par. Moving on to 16. The treacherous. It’s not that tre treacherous, but it’s epic. 16. Let’s go. 16 par three. 100 75 yardsish. What are the pros hitting here? Eight irons. Maybe some will hit a 9 iron. Little downhill. Depends on the wind. I’m probably not going to hit a 9 iron or an eight iron. But we’re going to try our best to make par or better. You never want to drop a shot on tour on Sunday on 16 coming down the stretch. Tiger Woods also said this course reminded him of Wrigley Field. Like the fans are just right there with you. They’re close. It’s like a small ballpark that small ball ballpark feel. Did we pick the right number? Okay. Hey, we’re on the green. We got a chance. We’re putting and that’s what we like. Here we go. All right, we made the green. Slopes everywhere. It’s like a horseshoe slopes. These are sloping down. That’s up on a slope. And so, not the easiest putt in the world. So, two putt would be the ideal scenario here. Take that slope. Slow it down. Roll it up there. Eight feet short. That’s perfect. Mr. Short game length for a tester for par coming down the stretch. Exactly what you do not want. But we squeaked it in. Crowds are cheering. Actually, the crowds would probably be like, “That dude just He doesn’t make it easy. Par away. Watch what happens though out here when you miss this green. Just a yard or so short and you land here. That sucker. See you later. Now you’re way down there. I mean, I’m 30 yards away. Just a little short. Mish hit. Wind gust on the tea. Sunday afternoon. Now you got a tight lie. Bermuda grain growing into you trying to save par. Woo. Let’s see what Mr. Short Game would do here. Just think of this. All those crowds staring at you saying, “This guy calls himself Mr. Short Game.” Well, now’s his chance to show us. And then you know you’re thinking that. Here you go. Look at that. Look at that. And Mr. a short game. If he came up short, iron and two wedges later, we walk off with a par and we go to Well, we’d go to 17, but we’re going to go to 18 and see if we can’t win this Windom Championship. Thank you. Thank you. Let’s go. Here we go. Trying to win the Windom Championship. Par 4, 57 yards. Wind unpredictable here in North Carolina. Big boy hole. Time for a big boy birdie. [Music] I got it. We’re in the fairway and we have a chance. I brought only lumber. I have 199 which means I hit it 301. No, 305. 305. I know I still got it sometimes, but it does slope all the way downhill here. The big boys could probably reach this creek down here and then they don’t have anything. Well, then they have a penalty drop or they just go to the bottom of the hill which is like a 350 yard drive. So, that’d be super nice. But me, I’m back here. Since I don’t carry a 4 iron, it’s my sevenwood shot. But it’s a little much. So, Mr. Short Game has to do unlike Mr. Short Game things, open the face of a sevenwood and just kind of scooch it up there. But I’m not going to make the same mistake I made at the Creator Classic qualifier playoff where I used a five iron, a sixiron that turned into like a one iron the downhill slope. I wished I had done this shot which is a open up face sevenwood and we’ll just see if it works better. The 600 went in the water. You saw it sadly. Now I’m going to open the face of the sevenwood and do the exact same thing like I’m laying up. And I knew that that lesson would pay off when we’re trying to win the oneman Field YouTube Windom Championship. Here we go. Come on. You can win this. I know there’s only one guy in the field today, so it’s going to be difficult to lose. But I’ve done worse things in my life. Oh, see I knew I should have hit that shot. That is fantastic. We are putting. We are pin high. I’m I’m not joking. There’s guys. Look at this guy. See, he he knows. This guy saw it. He saw it over here. He saw it. So, that’s what I wished I hit. And then if I had done that, we would have had a chance. But we have a chance today at the Windham Championship oneman field YouTube championship which I totally made all that up. But PGA Tour bird’s eye view. We have a 15-footer to win. Let’s go. Bird’s eye view. Stadium fans packing this place like Wrigley Field. Just giving a wave. Thank you. TV booth right here talking about how amazing your shot was. Hopefully Caddyy pulls the flag. He’s going to hold it over here. We’re going to read our putt because we know this is for everything. FedEx Cup points, PGA Tour, Windom Championship victory exemptions, major championship entries on the line. I’m just going to soak it in as if I am one of them. You’re one of them. And that’s what you’re going to do. Soon as we’re done, we’re walking under the tunnel to go collect our winner’s check. Can we do it? We can do it. You can do it. Do dreams come true out here in YouTube fake tournament land. [Applause] That’s a legit birdie. I birdied the last hole coming in the Windom Championship. Oh my gosh. We won the oneman field. Windom championship. See you in the champions locker room. Where’s my locker? Scoot over, Sam. need. [Applause] The players probably aren’t going to like hang out and experience what you’re about to see, but the people, the fans here will. This is the sandbar. This dude will be building this sand castle. He’s been here since May 1st. See, this guy knows what he’s doing. I would have personally started from the bottom up, but that would be wrong. You got to start from the top down. Margaritavville here at the Windham Championships. It is 5:00 somewhere. They’ll have live music here, bands playing. Jimmy Buffett was here once, sang a song, but sadly that won’t happen again. But we could play Jimmy’s music and commemorate and remember the legend. You see it on TV, but you don’t know what goes on behind the scenes. It’s hard work. These are margarita rules. There’s two armrests, one for each margarita. And since this is so long, you get at least two margaritas per arm. And you just chill right here.

For the first time ever the PGA Tour lets you inside with VIP access to the clubhouse, locker room, and everywhere a tour player would go at a tour event. You’ll see everything at Sedgefield Country Club.
Be sure to tune in to the @WyndhamChamp1938 on the @PGATOUR and see how the tournament unfolds.

  1. @mrshortgame, if youre ever in the Rocky Mount, NC area, check out Belmont Lake Golf Club. I'm a member. Hit me up and I'll pay for your round!

  2. I love these videos showing the inside of PGA tour spots. I watched the 1st round of the Wyndham today with an entirely different perspective on the holes you played! Well done especially on the birdie on 18!

  3. Good video! I live in Greensboro and play Sedgefield a few times a year. It’s a fantastic experience from the moment you pull into the parking lot. Very underrated tour stop. Best greens I’ve ever played on.

  4. You’re better than me playing out there in that heat. I live near sedgefield and I didn’t even go outside that day you were there😂🥵

  5. Great video Matt! Back in the late 80's, early 90's, I was in the furniture industry. Twice a year, we would all go to High Point which is a short drive from Greensboro for the furniture market. There is an apartment under the Sedgfield clubhouse and the company I worked for rented it out and let 8 or 9 of us stay there for the week. There was a secret stair case that let directly to the bar, which we took advantage of nightly.

The club wasn't as nice back then as it is now, but it was a treat to stay there because of all the history. Truly "old school".

We would also play both courses at the Grandover Resort. They are beautiful and challenging, but fair. The staff was very accommodating and if it was slow, they would let us do a replay for $30-40. They also had a great cheeseburger in the grill that overlooked the putting green. A very special place indeed!

  6. Look at his shirt. Crazy he didn’t mention how hot it is here. I wouldn’t want to be playing the week he was out there. Felt like 105 and humid as hell

  7. Hope you were able to play Oak Hollow (Pete Dye design, affordable) while you were in Greensboro. It's one of my favourite courses.

  8. Love it mate, Mr Short game for a reason! love your insight into all these courses you do, from Perth WA, Down under! 🤣

  9. Pretty much a waste of time…unless you have never seen a hotel… a clubhouse… a golf course! "VIP Access" in the header is misleading!

  10. Today was my first time ever going to a PGA EVENT. I’ll take this weekend as a learning experience of what to do expect and how to prepare for next year. One more day left. Wish I could’ve met you SG!

  11. Mr Short game.. would be great to do a video on the new White Ventus 4s.. Fitters say 15 yards more for 100 speed guys.. Thanks

  12. I was there on Sunday, first tournament I've been to. Had a great time and you're right, we were right up next to the players at some points. My fiance is Colombian so she was pulling for Nico Echavarria. Too bad he had a rough round though. Completely different than watching on TV. Great video.

  13. Thank you for coming to Greensboro. It’s a modest tournament but we love it! Hopefully you got to play one or both courses at Grandover.

  14. Peanut butter is not considered good protein. The bioavailability of it for humans is quite low compared to meat and especially eggs

  15. Great course, first rate. We played the US Hickory Open there a few years ago. Really great course with hickory clubs. Cheers
