FIX THIS FIRST and your entire swing falls in place (most never realize this)

Fix the face. Fix the swing. Too much face rotation when my right arm extends early. Hitting a lot down. Shut in the face like a windshield wiper. A lot of lefts, a lot of pulls, overdraws. And if you overcompensate for the problem, you’re going to try to correct it by opening the face with a steep down swing. Get these push fades. Very frustrating. So, one of the best things you can do for your swing is learn to get the face under control while keeping the shaft shallow. So, what I’m doing right here with fix my swing is keeping this trail arm externally rotated, tucked in. I’m bringing it around my body just by moving it with the shoulder. See, the face is doing absolutely nothing here. It’s just maintaining the same position it had at the dress. When I start down, I got to keep my hand in this position, my arm in the same position, move the shoulder, doing this, keeping the face flat the same. And as I continuing past impact, I keep moving the shoulder. That’s squaring up the face, keeping the face square all the way through. Where I go wrong is I’ll get really eager to hit the ball. I start pulling this club down instead of around. As I pull the club down, you can see that face close, close, close, close rapidly. So, strangely enough, keeping the face square enables me to shallow the shaft without thinking about shallowing it. What I’m going to do is hit a shot with this feeling, moving the shoulder around, seeing the face pointed more at the sky. And if I do this correctly in the fall through, I’ll have the same finish that I just showed you right here. That’s the goal. If I get too rotated, I know that I either pulled down too much or the trail arm untucked a little bit coming into impact. Oh, that was chunky. All right, so that was really bad trail arm management there. Resist the urge to hit this way. Resist. Maintain. That’s it. Much better. Wow. Purest one out of the bunch. Go figure. Shallow shaft, square face, and it’s a crispy day. [Music]

  1. This is me .. and I can’t seem to open my hips. I also tent to stand up in my take away 😢

  2. Yes…is the lead arm rotating on the backswing as one goes back to shallow as well? I say yes..how about you?
    Palm down.

  3. His golf swing theories are so good. They have done wonders for my swing. I am hitting the ball more flush and controlling my distance well. Thank you for all the excellent information.

  4. My right hand is palm up at the top. I then move my right shoulder down without adjusting my hands or wrists of both hands. At impact, my face is always open. Are you meant to adjust your wrists slightly during the downswing to square the clubface at impact?

  5. I started playing in February. Watch a lot of YouTube golf but Tom and Rob were the most helpful by far. I normally score 12 over par ish and my best has been 9 over. Played Torrey South the other day and shot 88. Not bad after 7 months of playing
