Punters are expecting this week’s Ryder Cup to go down to the wire as Luke Donald’s men put the finishing touches on preparations to defend the famous trophy in New York.

Team Europe scored a comfortable 16½ -11½ victory over their American rivals in Italy in 2023, but the odds at BOYLE Sports suggest a much closer contest in this year’s renewal, with a slender one-point margin the best bet in the correct score market.

Team USA, led by captain Keegan Bradley, are 10/1 to reclaim the bragging rights with a 14½ -13½   win, although a 14-14 tie, which would be enough for Europe to retain the trophy, is also a well backed scoreline at 12/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “Home advantage favours Team USA but the odds suggest a solitary half point could swing this either way, so punters are clearly bracing themselves for a nail-biting weekend.”

Team USA are 4/6 favourites on home soil, with Europe rated 6/4 underdogs on the Bethpage Black course, which has hosted three major championships, all won by Americans, since the turn of the century.

The top two in the world rankings are being backed to lead the charge for their respective captains, with Scottie Scheffler (9/2) and Rory McIlroy (10/1) heading the list of likely top points scorers.
