WOLCOTT, Colo. — Pepperdine women’s golf posted its second-lowest 54-hole score in program history on the way to second-place finish among 20 teams at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic this week at Red Sky Golf Club.
Freshman Kylee Choi had a breakthrough performance for the Waves in her second collegiate event, placing third individually, with Jeneath Wong and Eunseo Choi also finishing in the top-ten as the Waves finished 28 under par as a team.
The 28 under par mark ranks as the second lowest 54-hole team score in program history, behind only the 2008 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Kylee Choi’s 7-under par 65 on Wednesday matched the program record for low round from a freshman, with her 11-under mark for the tournament ranking as the second-lowest 54-hole score from a Pepperdine freshman.
The Waves topped four of the five ranked programs in the field, with No. 4 USC winning the tournament.
“Coach Kacey and I are incredibly proud of how all of the players prepared and competed in our first two tournaments,” said head coach Laurie Gibbs. “It was awesome to have all five players shoot under par in the final round today. The players will now have a break before Stanford to catch up on their classes. Go Waves!”
Kylee Choi finished up at 11 under par for a third-place finish individually, highlighted by her record-tying 7-under 65 in the final round. Choi posted a 3-under 69 in round two, which pushed her into the top-ten heading into the final round.
Jeneath Wong added another top-ten finish to her collegiate resume, finishing in eighth with a 7 under par final score. Wong carded a 5-under 67 to begin the week on Monday and finished strong with a 70 on Wednesday as she stayed even par or below in each round.
Eunseo Choi achieved a top-ten result with a 6-under 66 in the final round to finish in a tie for ninth individually. Choi began the week with a 3-under 69, which had put her in sixth-place following the opening round of the tournament. Choi’s 66 matched a personal best as she begins her sophomore season with back-to-back top-ten finishes.
Grace Anderson continued her consistent play, going under par in all three rounds on her way to a 12th-place finish individually. Finishing at four under par, Anderson bookended the tournament with 71s while shooting a 2-under 70 on Tuesday.
Irene Kim rounded out the Waves lineup with a 44th-place finish at seven over par. Kim started the tournament with an even par 72 on Monday while recording a 1-under 71 on Wednesday as all five Pepperdine golfers shot under par in the final round.
