Paige Spiranac had Bryson DeChambeau’s back on Wednesday after Brandel Chamblee took multiple shots at the two-time U.S. Open champion ahead of this year’s Ryder Cup.

After mentioning earlier this summer that he was going to be “chirping in [Rory McIlroy’s] ear” when it comes time to tee it off at Bethpage Black this week, Rory bit back with the rebuttal that the only way Bryson gets attention is by “mentioning other people.”

Obviously word got back to DeChambeau, which led to another response where he talked about his YouTube channel — something that didn’t sit well with the outspoken Golf Channel analyst at all.

Chamblee calls DeChambeau a ‘captain’s nightmare’

“I thought it was pretty pointed there when he [was] asked about the retort of Rory, that he didn’t mention the goal this week of a Ryder Cup,” Chamblee pointed out Monday. “… What he did do was talk about his YouTube channel, which, you know, if we want to talk about the numbers that are generated from that, it’s pretty dubious.”

“I have no doubt bots are generating a lot of those views,” he claimed. “There may be some interest as well. But that’s what he wants to talk about. Not the team, not the Ryder Cup. It’s one of the reasons why I think he’s going to be such a difficult person to get paired with.”

“No doubt he’s one hell of a golfer. No doubt he has his moments of generosity with fans; I have heard about them. But he’s an odd duck when he’s trying to blend in with the team … I think he would be a captain’s nightmare.”

Paige pushes back on analyst’s ‘weird take,’ fans agree

Chamblee’s comments caught the attention of everyone’s favorite golf influencer, Paige Spiranac, who didn’t understand where the analyst’s concern was coming from.

“Brandel saying Bryson is a ‘captain’s nightmare’ is such a weird take,” Paige said. “He’s the perfect person for this type of team event. He gets the people going! Will be fun to watch his matches this week.”

Spiranac received a lot of support for her defense of DeChambeau. With fans also not loving Chamblee’s tone on the 32-year-old LIV star:

“Remind me again please how many Ryder Cup matches has [Brandel] won? a user asked.

“Brandel is really pushing for the ‘I want everyone to agree with me’ schtik but it’s having the opposite effect,” another replied. “It’s like he has an axe to grind with Bryson.”

“Brandel Chamblee is the reason I don’t watch Golf Channel. He tries to be like Johnny Miller, but doesn’t come close to having the cred that JM had,” a fan commented.

“He’s only a nightmare for Team Europe’s Captain. Bryson is the fan favorite and the crowd roars will be next-level!” another person exclaimed.

Clearly, Chamblee doesn’t love how Bryson chooses to go about his business. But it’s hard to argue with the results he’s been able to put up over the past handful of years.

DeChambeau currently ranks No. 22 in the world but has made some major headway in the sport’s biggest tournaments. We’ll see if Brandel’s proven right in the 2025 Ryder Cup, or if Bryson will be as perfect of a fit as Paige says he is.
