hey guys it’s Michael welcome back to scratch Golf Academy today I’m going to take you through an irons practice session something you can take right onto the range and follow let’s get right into it first if you haven’t been uh following make sure to subscribe uh check out my stuff over on that golf crime but we’re going to start with uh just a wedge right and something that if you’ve seen me practice before I’d only like to keep a couple of balls on the mat at a time that way it just kind of helps you prevent you from hitting a ton of balls over and over again but just to loose and upright I like to focus on Tempo and loosening the body no reason to go right into a crazy range session dialing in the Focus right away so let’s hit a couple wedges here just a 56° focusing on my Tempo maybe a couple of Swing thoughts but really just trying to keep it nice and smooth hit a couple straight and loosen up and then we’ll get into the session so going to hit a couple here variety of distances you can do this before any practice session no matter what you’re doing irons drivers it’s important to be loose all right so in this session we’re going to work on even iron so it’s all the even clubs in your bag we got pitching wedge eight iron six iron four iron right and always get an alignment stick we’re going to start with a Target pretty straight away out there let me grab my pitching wedge and what we’re focusing on is trying to aim at our Target and being deliberate with each swing that we make so right now I’m going straight and we’re going to hit roughly four shots with each Club but every two shots we’re going to be switching targets the last practice session that we did I mentioned we’re going to keep it at a straight Target every single time well this time we’re going to move it around because on the golf course you don’t hit at the same Target um over and over again it’s important to you know move it around and something also to keep in mind is when you have a mat like this it tends to point you in one specific Direction and having a stick down here and moving just allows you to adjust and aim at some different targets so right now got a pitching wedge being deliberate only have one ball at the mat at a time you’re going to hit roughly five shots with each four shots with each but after you hit two you’re going to switch Target so we’re going straight right now it’s a great shot right there perfectly straight and it it depends on the goal of your session right if you’re working through a swing change like myself we’re just trying to have some consistency but if you already have a great swing this just kind of helps you switch it up so we’re going to hit one more here with our pitching wedge again pretty straight shot there Sor right we hit two to the same Target let’s switch it up now we’re going to aim a little bit more to the right so you’ll stand behind your ball like this move your stick so we’re going to aim towards that flag on the right might be hard for you to see but now we have a pitching wedge again you don’t have to pick a Target out on the Range that you’ll have the ball land next to it can be something way out there 300 yards but in terms of picking targets when you’re on the course your flag is not going to always be the Target right so kind of switch that up on the Range but we still have a pitching wedge right we’re going to aim towards that blue flag probably won’t get it there but just a good start line right online looks really good so then we’ll hit one more over to this blue flag [Music] pretty good maybe a little bit left so that would have completed our pitching wedge section so I said even irons so we’re going to skip the nine we’re going to go right to an eight essentially we’re going to go through the same thing so you have you know you could do like four balls at a time on the mat we have our eight iron now now I’m going to pick something over to the left side it keeps it fresh keeps it fun I’m going to aim there’s a yellow sign over there but you can also put a second alignment stick right here if you’d like but what this is going to do it’s just changing up changing up the uh practice session instead of just hitting it into a open field every single time I highly recommend getting yourself some alignment sticks something so you can help dial in your uh alignment that’s super important but here we go with an eight so that one was well left of my target if you hit a bad one during this practice session what I recommend doing is pausing for a second maybe doing some sort of a drill so for me I know that I came well across and kind of flip my hands over so what I’m going to work on here is do a little rehearsal do a little practice swing get to here and feel a little bit straighter down the line maybe a little bit more rotation with the lower body that way not just hitting a bad one then potentially hitting another bad one in a row that’s something that I try to prevent I tell my students say hey if you hit one bad one that’s okay try to over exaggerate the fix so that way you don’t hit multiple bad ones in a row so just did a little rehearsal there see if we can fix this aim it more at our Target and there we go a lot better better result that’s kind of how you go through it then we you know we hit two at the eight at that Target we’ll switch it up so you go eight iron to 6 iron to four iron if you don’t have a four iron you can throw in like a hybrid into this practice session but it’s just a great way to work through your irons on the Range you don’t have to hit every single Club when you go to the range too keep that in mind but that’ll be the practice session um you can follow along take this out to the range but if you enjoyed make sure to subscribe check myself and my channel out over on that golf grind and I’ll see you guys out here real [Applause] [Music] soon
