Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black course front nine preview | Live From the Ryder Cup | Golf Channel
Time now for moving through the course delivered by DP World, worldwide logistics partner of the RDER Cup. Give me a little tour now of the front nine. Let’s start at this first Brandle. Drivable. Yeah, for all the talk about the difficulty of this golf course and the admonition of the signs, the golf course starts out gentle like your mom waking you up to go to school in the morning. Uh nice dog leg right par4 here. Downwind by the way, day one downwind uh if the forecast holds for the singles matches. But uh as Wag said, if you try to cut this corner, you end up in that rough. Imagine if they put some pins down the right side there. Very problematic. So good riskreward option right off the gate. Number two short as well. Yeah. Well, you move across the road now and uh you wouldn’t know you’re playing in the second hole, the right a cup here with no uh stands around this one, but obviously the threes uh curtail that. It’s a positioning hole. It’s only 390 as you can see in the left hand side. Three wood, maybe an iron off the tea, leaving a wedge. The green is pitched from back to front. It is an opportunity to get a birdie here. The players will be chasing birdie in this hole, hitting only wedge and able to back it up off that green that is very much pitched towards the front of the green. So, a real chance to go at the golf course here. Yeah, with two good birdie opportunities at the one at the first and the second hole. Uh you might see this hole one with par a few times. Uh long par three third hole with the green sitting at a diagonal to the players from about oh 5:00 uh to 11:00. Over this green is a deep chasm. You certainly don’t want to go there. Well bunkered, beautiful par three hole and then to the first par five. Not overly long at 517 yards. You would think that Rich at at 30 517 yards. This par four is longer than that on a PGA tour now. But your players are driving it into this narrow bottleneck. 340 to run out there. So uh unless it’s firm fairways, they won’t be doing that. Even the rough is not too bad up there. But the difficulty is if you are coming from the roof, you’re going into a green that sits up above you and it’s pitched slightly from front to back. So, it’s very hard to hit the green. So, you need to be coming from the fairway in there and it runs down to a very awkward place behind the green, a runoff area where the grain is all against and it’s a difficult chip. Yeah. Then you get to a solid par4, the fifth. Solid indeed. Possibly the best hole on the golf course. Wag said as much just a minute ago. This fairway diagonal sort of right to left. And if you drive it down the left side, you’d be blocked out by those trees. So there’s an emphasis in driving it to the right. Relatively flat green. Not a lot of movement uh in these greens, but some subtle breaks in particular at the back of this green. Shallow green, but very important to find that green. And then the par4 6 48 yds. Yeah, after that difficult hole back onto their front foot again. You’re looking for birdie here. Tiny hole at 408 in the modern game. Players might drive it down the bottom of the hill into the shadow of the threes there and have half a lob wedge second shot. Uh it is a real chance particularly if you hit it on the fairway here and control your speed in uh your your spin into that green. Uh absolutely players looking for birdie here at WH. So there’s a number of chances those first few holes to uh really get out the golf course and try to make some birdies. And then a beefy par4 at 524 yds. It’s par five for the public. Yeah, just an absolutely gorgeous par4. A beast of a par4. You’re trying to cut that corner over that scrubland bunker there and then you need to get it up and down that left side. So you’ve got a clear view of this green again, green is relatively flat. Uh but you know if you look at who’s won here, Tiger Woods in 2002 led greens in regulation. 2019 Kept was first in strokes gained off the approach as was Wattney in 2012 at the bark play. So huge emphasis on our player right now. The eighth par three. Yeah, 210 plays quite a bit downhill. Players will be hitting probably seven irons in here. Uh there’s a pin there on the front of the green that you you don’t quite get it right, it might catch in the rough or even come back into the water. Uh there’s a quite a big tear in the middle of the green there and that leads to a very small target at the very back of the green where I’m sure the pin will be on some of the days. Again, another green that’s pitched from back to front. Very good par three. And it is said that the T-shot here at the ninth is the toughest on the golf course. It’s uphill over some gullies and after you and supposedly you find that fairway, you’re left with a very difficult second shot off a steep slope that slopes right to left. See, you’re trying to hit some high cut. Again, greens are relatively flat sort of circular green, but uh so much importance to find that fairway and hit a good T- shot to be able to approach this uh ninth green. Yeah, that’s front. Now we’ll get to the back nine the next couple of days. Paulie, how about the the weather the next couple

Why is your coverage so biased? and your fawning over the Euro's is ridiculous. You dismiss world golf rankings at every turn and then dismiss European faults in the same breath to give them this whole GIANT advantage. Then you show a cherry picked stat of Euros have won 10 of last 14. It means nothing. Be UNBIASED
