WINONA, Minn. – Winona State women’s golf fought to a third-place finish at the Jewel Invitational, led by Megan Young who finished eighth individually.
Winona State finished the first round in third place after shooting a seventeen over par as a team. The Warriors stay consistent in round 2 holding onto their third-place position shooting twenty-two over par.
WSU’s Young carded a first-round score of with a score of 74 (+3) and closed out the event with a five-over-par, 76, to help her finish eighth overall. Young carded six birdies across the invitational which was tied for third amongst all golfers.
Lindsey Lund and Kelby Anderson both shot ten over par (151) overall, allowing them to be tied for tenth out of all golfers at the invite. Georgia Volley was slightly behind her fellow Warriors with a final score card of eighteen over par (155).
Kessa Mara started the invitational strong with a score of 77 (+6) while birdieing three holes in a row on the front nine. Mara would finish the event with a score of 160 (+18). Maeve McDougal finished the Jewel Invitational with a score of 157 (+15) while shooting a 80 (+9) during round one and a 77 (+6) during round two.
The Warriors will be back to tee off at the Grace Shinn Invitational in Edmond, Okla. on October 6th and 7th.
