EPIC Beat Down At Ben Hogan’s Favorite Scottish Golf Course! EP.4

This time on Golf with Dad. Episode four in our Stableford series sees dad with a four-point lead. For this leg of the series, we’re playing a golf course that was beloved by none other than Ben Hogan himself. Oh, yes. Nice putt. Do I have what it takes to get back into the game? Oh, Jordan, that’s that’s your Lynx golf shot. Welcome to Panmir Golf Club. Dad, it’s really cool to know that that’s a putting green that Ben Hogan definitely putted on. Can you say that about any other place you’ve ever played? I’ll have to think about that. I don’t think I can ever say that that he’s definitely putted on that putting green for sure. Practiced a ton. Yeah, that’s pretty cool. You ready to get this stable going from Pan? I am. This looks beautiful. Dad’s got a two shot or two, sorry, four point. He’s got a four-point lead on me. 22 to 18 going into this match. This is match three of the stable fruit series. Yes. From Panmir. Yes. Let’s go. It’s a good looking hole. Hey, play welded. Let’s hit some good shots. Let’s hit some good shots. Make some putts from Panmir. [Music] Well, I didn’t do that a single time on the range. I’ll be honest. I think that’s on the other fairway. It’s It’s left It’s left of the other fairway, I think. [Music] Uhoh. You did the not as bad as me, but Yeah, I came over that one, too. Okay. Well, at least we found it. This wind is dead into me now cuz I’m like I think I’m in the 18th fairway. Got about 115 straight into the wind out of the bunker. I’m actually going to hit a nine iron here. [Music] That’s not very good. Did it pretty good. I think I may have caught the green. Boy, did that hit a wall up there. [Music] All right. So, I’m hitting four. I’m going to drop for lock fall as we do on this series. All right. You got it. All [Music] right. I lost two points on this hole. That’s good. [Music] Good putt. That’s good. Thank you. Is that par? That’s a par. I hit a seven iron from 114. Yeah. And it was still, you know, what 25 ft short. Yeah. Well, out of that bunker, this what I’m finding the sand in Scotland is is very fine and very there’s a lot of it. Yes. So, you don’t get like a nice clean lie. So, I I tried to pick it a little bit more clean than I probably should have and and hit the lip. Yeah. Probably should just splash it out. I got that one good. Got that one very nicely. All right. So, after two T- shots and two approach shots, it’s so important to just keep it in play and keep it where you’re looking in this in this wind. You really, really cannot. If I’m trying to like make a great shot and get really close to the hole and make something happen, I don’t know if today is that day. I think mitigating and controlling is the is the best thing to that’s the best course of of uh it’s the best course of action. I agree. I got to learn that big time. That should be fine. It’s the first good shot I’ve hit. Yeah, that’s right in the middle. 192 to the back lip. So into the wind, you got to be a good 215 to that bunker, maybe 220. And the one on the right’s even further. And it’s a draw wind. You should just play it to the right bunker and hit whatever you want. Okay. So, I’m going to hit a threewood and run it up there. Easy. Easy. It’s in. Stay short of it. No, you’re in. Really? It rolled a ton and it was a lot of hook on that. Okay. 107. But this wind, I think it’s like a two club wind, especially if you’re going to lift it high with a wedge. So, usually this be a 56 degree. I’m going to take a 50 right at the middle of the stick and hit like a little half shot and just try to get it to the middle of the green in regulation. Wow, that short and left. I can’t believe it. It’s just gobbling it up. Wow. Well, the key here, I’ve got my 58. Just going to try to hit solid on the ball and see if I can get it up there toward the green. Nice out. It’s about all you can do. Is that Is that it right there? Yeah. Okay. All right. Hey, we advanced it. Let’s see how this rake works. Ooh, that’s nice. Why aren’t all rakes like that? That’s amazing. This is a puttable shot. It’s just so long. To a front pin, I would probably putt it, but to a back pin, just a little too far. Okay, I’m going to run a little eight iron up there. Pretty good. Okay. Not too bad. Not too bad for that one. Turn. Turn the other way. Go go go go go go go go. That didn’t move a hair. Stayed right there. If anything, it went a little bit left. It was going to work a little right. If anything, it went a little left. Oh, yes. Yes. I’ll take that five. Oh, that’s good. Do you notice the inside of these cups? Yes. The logo. Yes. Check that out. How cool is that? It’s pretty cool. You don’t see that much. The attention to detail at Panmir for the for the player experience as soon as you get into the pro shop is and the clubhouse is I’ve never experienced anything like it. Gift bags taking pictures for us that they’re going to print out and blow up for us to take home with us. How about bag tags with our name on it? Bag tags with it’s engraved. They’re not printed. They’re engraved in metal. Bag tags. This is unbelievable. This is known as the Panmir experience. And so far it’s it’s just been phenomenal. Yeah. Good spot there. You’ve got that shot down. That’s a huge plus when you’re playing out here. Left again. But you flighted it. Yeah. Well, they’ve all been flighted because they’ve all been duck hooks. But if what if you swing out to 1:00 with that? I need to keep my back to Well, I’m I’m struggling to cover the ball and keep my back to the target and get my pressure left to flight it without coming over the top. It’s really hard. Wow. You need like a You need to You need to hit like your seven would just carry that bunker. Do you want a yardage to that front bunker? I’m going to hit the sixiron. Really? Sting it? Yeah. Where are you going to sting it to? I think I can hit it over. Don’t you think I can hit my sixiron over that bunker? No. You don’t think I can? You want a yardage to the bunker? Yeah. I think that bunker is farther short than what it looks like. 125. Yeah. So, if I can carry that bunker, I can roll it right up next to the pin. And I just don’t want to hit a wood and get it up in the air. So, I’m going to go with the sixiron. Okay. All right. Let’s see what dad’s got here. He’s got to sting this one. The wind is ruckus right now. He just needs to carry one bunker. He did it. You’re still short left of the green. Okay, good. Good spot. You had 162 or Yeah. Yeah. All right. 161. Pretty decent lie. Went straight into me. Just going to try to hit a nice smooth sixiron to the middle of the green. Oh, Jordan, that’s that’s your Lynx golf shot. I’m still short. No, you’re on the green. No, I’m short. Okay. It’s unbelievable. Not by much. Look, give me some. That’s That’s a shot that you can play with. You can play winning golf links golf with that shot. I can’t believe that short. That’s like my 190 club. That’s Yeah, 30 yards. That’s a front pin. You’re right there. It’s a great shot. We got to accept these. These are great shots. Well, I’m I’m a little shorter than I thought I was. I thought I’d get a little bit of kick down here, but it What it did is it kicked this way. Yeah, but uh we’re still good. Still good. Are you going to bring it in up and over my ball or you going to bump it right by it? No, I’m going to carry your ball on this one because there’s a slope in front of the green. Nice shot. Go in. Heck of a shot. Thank you. Come on. Turn. Turn. Go. Go. Good one, Jordan. It’s good by me. You want to tap it in for practice? Nice job. Good par. I’ll take a par. Good par. Hey, first one of the day. More to come. Don’t I mean, one of the things that I love about this golf course, you get you get the feel of a Lynxy kind of thing, but then there’s still some trees and there’s some scrub and the bunkers are wonderful. Doesn’t this just feel cozy? I mean, it feels really good. It It does feel co cozy is a good word for it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love it. Still into the wind. We’re still heading out. Still the same direction. Stroke index number three. Are all the hardest holes on the front? Well, with the prevailing wind maybe being this direction, that might be the case. Yeah. Good ball. Thank you. Did you hear that sound? That crack here in the trees that make you feel big and powerful. Big. Yeah, very big. [Music] Where did you go? I’m right over there. Oh, I’m in the rough, but I found it. So, you said 64 in into the wind. Well, sixiron’s not enough. I think I’m gonna run a fivewood up there. Lot of mounds up there for running. If I hit the sevenwood or the ninewood, I think it’s going to get too high. So, I’m just going to have to manufacture something here. Back home, I took out my five iron and my hybrid four to put in a 7wood and a 9wood. Not for this trip, but just because I can hit them better and get the height. So, here, not so much. So, I’ll just run in a I mean, not so much as in the height isn’t what we want. We want piercing stuff. So I I’ll just manufacture a little fivewood punch and judy. [Music] Yep. Got on back left. Do you know what? Do you think that ball hit here? Did you hear something? I did cuz it it that was like unbelievably low. That was only about 12 feet in the air. When the wind slows down, I want to like hurry up and just hit it before the wind picks up again. 56. You want a suggestion? I’m going to hit the exact same shot I just did. Yes. Yes. Yes. My sentiment’s exactly. Ball’s a little above my feet here. Little bit of a different shot. Cut out a little bit thicker hairier stuff, but it seems a little calm right now. So, I think you’re you’re good. That’s it. It’s over. Too much club. H maybe back edge. Probably should have taken the seven with the wind died down. Yeah, it’s tough to say. That was It’s always tough to say. That’s that’s that’s what’s hard about Scottish golf and yardages. I love the swing though. You’re getting it. You’re coming. It’s good stuff. [Music] Hey George, I think you hit right here. Yeah. This is an impossible pot. [Music] Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. What were you telling my ball to do? Well, what were you telling my ball to do? To Whoa. Because if it misses on that side, it’s it’s off the green. See that? That was so far under the line I should have played. It was never going to go that way. I was I wasn’t within 3 ft of where I should have been. This green is completely different than any of the others up to this point in time. The others were fairly flat. This is anything but. No, there’s a lot on huge. This is a This is a St. Andrews green. Yeah, a little bit. Well, this is a swooper from left to right. Okay. Tough to stop it, huh? Yeah. I just didn’t know how fast it would come off this slope. So, not bad. No, it’s not terrible. I think it’s going to go a little bit that way at first and then come back a little bit this way. So, I’m just going to play it inside left. Oh, good putt, Jordan. That’s good. [Music] putt. Thank you. Thanks. [Music] 140 middle pin. Wind picked back up again from that last back into us again. Back in and and to the right to left. I’m going to sting a little sixiron in there. You hit that really well. Come on, man. It’s going to be great. Go in. It’s either off the back or you made it. I saw it take a hop right at the bottom of the stick. Yep. [Music] Good bounce. Good bounce. Now that could be good. That could be pretty good. You know, it must be down in a swale there cuz that disappeared. What if it’s in the cup? What if we make backto back hole in once? Well, if we did that, then there’s no reason for us not to be YouTube famous. We go back to back hole in once. [Music] Nope. I ran well through the green. I hit it really well. All right, work to do. [Music] Go get over that hill. The wind held it up. That’s a pretty good putt. Thank you. This looks like it’s going to have a lot of break, but there’s so much wind holding it up. I really don’t think it’s going to be that much. And I was absolutely wrong. The wind is still not going to beat gravity. Well, I got to get this outside the cup to the right. Even though the wind is blowing this way, I think I think it’s still going to go left. [Music] Nice. I’ll take another par. Two pars in a row. That’s a big deal for me. You’ve got honors. And number six, the Hogan hole at Panmir. I don’t think that’s This is the hardest hole on the golf course. I don’t think that’s to be the first one to have to hit is not necessarily timing is everything. So, there’s a white like stone out in the fairway and supposedly that’s that’s the right line. Now, is that a starting line or a finishing line? Start it right over that. Yep. It doesn’t look like that would be the line for me standing here. It looks like it’s too far right. Yep. But I’m going to trust them. I’m going to hit it right over the stone. And then Who are we to who are we to try to draw new lines out here when they’ve been since 1956 or something? And they said that’s the line and 53. And Hogan put a little pot bunker in here in front of the green that you can’t see front right. The Hogan bunker. [Music] Do you feel this? Did that just pick up by like 15 to 20? Well, you’ve got honors though, so the wind is my friend. [Music] Well, why not? A big banana cut. Let’s add that to what’s happening. [Music] I lost it. Uh little bit left of the stone drawing. Okay. Low and pretty solid. We’ll see. There’s no guarantees. We’ll see. Boy, it looks like you got to march single file down this fairway. There’s not much up here to look at except there’s a lot of lot of moguls and gors and things. But that being said, um boy, it’s it’s rolly and uh let’s just see how we handle the Hogan hole. Jordan has just avoided a bunker on the right, so he’s he’s in good shape. Found it. And you can see the you can see the pin from here. They say if you birdie this hole, there’s a free whiskey glass that you get, but I don’t know if we’re going to finish before they close. So, it might not happen, but it’ be nice to birdie this anyway. Yeah, there you go. Let’s see if we can one of us or both of us birdy it. That’d be nice. Would be good TV. I’ve got 200 yards into the wind. The white flag stick is right there just just in front of those pine trees. So, uh, I’m going to hit a fivewood. Sting it really good. [Music] Well, I didn’t catch that one very well. Did I pop it up? It’s to the right. You hit it fat and to the right. Wow. I think that you know what? That was one of those ones where the Did the wind get you? The wind moves your upper body a little bit and the It’s like the ball moved but it but I moved. It’s like the earth moved. Yeah. So the pin is just just to the right of that tower in the distance. So I’m going to play it well right of that cuz the wind is moving back to the left. Can’t trace that one. Wow. This is hard. That’s the second bunker lip that I’ve hit today. And I wasn’t even in the bunker that time. All right, just taking it just right of that tower. See if I can punch one. Go. Come over. More. More. I don’t know. I don’t know. It’s close. Hit it good. I don’t know. Uphill. That pin’s all the way back. Okay. Can you hit it like Yeah, just get it up in like 35 yards somewhere on Okay. That’s a great shot. Go in. Did you make it? No. Oh, it just went past. That would have been a a birdie and a What is that? A drink in the clubhouse? Yeah, that would have been a whiskey glass or something whiskey, so it’s okay. But I would have liked to made the three. You think you had enough club to get it this far? It looked like it. It was in the air a long time. Men looking for golf balls part five. Yeah. Wow. You’re going to What’s your What’s your plan? I got to bump it into the hill just short probably. Right like uh right in here. Okay. Nope. Oh no, dude. That wind the wind and the It just jumped. Everything about that was just gone. All right, I got to make this or else it’s a Okay, double bogey. Double bogey. If you make double bogey or worse, it’s minus two. So he’s got to make this for six. Oh, he almost did, too. Okay, this is for par. Definitely going to break right. The wind’s blowing left to right and there’s some slope. See if we can get this one in there. No, hit it too hard. Whoa. That’s good. Pick it up. Didn’t I didn’t allow the slope a chance to give that necessary break. All right. Bogey. All right. Number seven. Going right back where 6T came from. So, this is the first hole that feels a little bit downwind, a little bit left to right. 410. Uhoh. [Music] Oh, you’re fine. Okay, you safe. Hit that good, too. Did it kick through that stuff? It carried the stuff. I It’s on the other side of the hill. That’s on the other side of the stuff. Do you see the hill? It’s like fairway and first cut. Well, that could be very good then. It was going. It was going. Sorry, 160. But you want to play like your 130 club. This is like 40 mph downwind. I’m going to hit a nine higher. Yeah. You got to keep it left of the stick, too. Why is there something over there to the right? Oh, the wind’s going to take it. Yeah. Okay. [Music] I think that’s pretty good. I think you’re on the front. Look at that. Oh, you’re right up next to it. Oh, I think you scared the hole. I think I did, too. Nine iron from 160. That’s a That’s a big nine iron for you. And you swung so easy. Thank you. Because it’s breezy. There you go. Got my uh sand wedge. 95 yard sand wedge. Straight downwind almost down gale. Gonna have to land this short middle pin. It’s up. No, I whiffed it. Oh, he came up a little bit short. Didn’t quite catch it. Front edge. Jordan said he thought I might have scared the hole on this one, and it very well definitely scared the hole. Could have hit the lip. It didn’t go in, but I’ve got a nice chance for a birdie. And Jordan’s putting for birdie as well. How would you like it, Jordan? Out. That would Yeah. Out. Out. Out. Yeah. I don’t think a pin blowing around like that is going to help. That looks really good. Oh, kind of ran out of gas, huh? Well, did you feel the wind die down? Yep. That’s good for a four. Oh, yes. Nice putt. Yes. Woo. I will take a three. Well, that’s a wind shooter. If there’s ever been a windshooter, would that get no more than about seven feet off the ground? Yeah, that was a little lower than I had uh planned. Nice, Jordan. Looks perfect from here. I couldn’t have swung any better on that. I’m heading up number eight. Back into the wind, into the sun. The prevailing wind’s coming from the west today cuz the sun’s setting over there. It’s coming hard and it’s coming good. This is a 360ish 370 hole, but it’s, you know, right into the wind and it was hard to tell off the tea where to go. Boy, pretty sloppy here, too. Boy, if you get that ball rolling, pretty good shape. Let’s see if we can get one up there close into this wind. 137. Looks like that pin is right next to some junk. The wind’s blowing that way. I’m not going to go for that pin. I’m going to go to the fat part of the green. 137. Let’s call it 140. Tight lie. Oh, I got to hit a little sixiron again. Go, baby. Give me a kick. Boy, I couldn’t tell. I hit it pretty good, but I left it out just a touch and it got into the wind a little bit more. We’ll see. How How long is this hole? 360 [Music] 361 361 I’m going to be hitting a three iron 4 iron into this. I got 160. Come on, baby. [Music] Never came back. I love the way you hit it, though. You just got to get that thing straightened up a bit. It’s down in a little valley. Bite, bite, bite. [Music] All right, chipping for par. [Music] Oh, this is harder than St. Andrews when when we played and it was 45 mph winds. This is harder. [Music] No, it didn’t. Stayed out that way. [Music] Get it. Get it. Oh, good try. Four in 172. Wind is left to right. Pretty pretty good. Yellow flag, which is middle. This is our first left to right wind, isn’t it, Jordan? Yep. 172. Bunker is right where you’d want to land it. 172. Wow. What are we going to do? You’re punching a sevenwood. I’m going to punch a sevenwood. I don’t think sixiron can get me there. That bunker left. See if I can just punch a sevenwood and run it down there. Aim it a little bit to the right of the pin. Draw it into the wind. That was pretty good. Oh, was good execution. It just was That was a hard shot to pull off. It didn’t bounce up. It hit something and came backwards. It’s a big hill. Oh boy. I pulled that off beautifully, too. You did what you said you wanted to. That’s for sure. I got a sixiron here. I’m going to actually play the wind too much. Not the worst shot I’ve hit today. Almost almost pulled it off. We both almost pulled off the shots. Yeah. Yeah, I I’ll say that. Well, a really good looking par three. Is this nine? I think it’s nine. And uh we had about 175 yards. And first hole we played with a left to right wind. And there’s a big bunker, pot bunker just to the left here that that you’d normally want to play it over. I I mean, if there was no bunker there, you’d play it in from the left and work the wind. But we both came up just short in a little swale here. A beautiful green. Two hidden bunker pot bunkers to the right. Pot bunker to the left. Swail down below. Lovely par three. All right. What are you going to do here with this one, Jordan? You got options. I’m chipping it in. I thought the wind was going to push it a lot more than that. I thought it was going to kill it and push it a lot more than that. Well, I’m going to take the ground route. I mean, there’s plenty of room to chip. It lies good. Not too tight, but I think I can get this close putting it. It’s going to come to the left off this. I don’t think there’s a whole lot here. We’ll see. Did I hit it? Ah, almost had the line. That’s good. Well, I left it under the cup. Looks pretty straight. Let’s hit it to the back of the cup. Good putt. Thank you. This is um these holes, Jordan back. I mean, this hole when you look back so cool looking. On the next episode of Golf with Dad Stable Series, Dad pushes his lead to 16 points after the front nine at Pan. And I get a little bit testy. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. There’s red. I don’t know if those red stakes mean there’s a hazard in front of this green or not. Do you see it? Trying to get in my head. See what happens next on episode five of the Stapleford series.

Episode 4 of the “Stableford Series” takes us to legendary Panmure Golf Club in Carnoustie, Scotland — a historic and windswept links where legends once walked, and where strategy is just as important as skill.
Heading into the round, Dad holds a slim 4-point lead over Jordan (22–18), but the conditions at Panmure are no joke. The wind is up, the fairways are firm, and the pressure is on.
Can Dad hold his lead, or will Jordan fight back in the wind?
A Course Steeped in History. This isn’t just any links course — Ben Hogan famously practiced here in 1953 before winning his one and only Open Championship at neighboring Carnoustie Golf Links.
Hogan spent two weeks at Panmure, getting used to the tight lies, coastal winds, and the smaller 1.62″ British golf ball. He even left his mark on the course — the 6th hole, a 414-yard par 4, features “Hogan’s Bunker,” a hidden pot bunker he recommended be added front-right of the green.

In this episode, watch how the Golf With Dad! boys handles the infamous Hogan Bunker, and whether Jordan can close the gap in this tightly contested Stableford match.
