BREMERTON, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) – One of a few teams to finish 36 holes before a second-round suspension due to darkness, the UNLV men’s golf team ended Tuesday’s opening day of The Tindall at Gold Mountain Golf Club (par 72, 7,179 yards) with a trio of players in the top 30.

REBEL ROUNDUP: Senior Trevor Lewis checks in at 10th with a 4-under (67-73), junior Zach Little follows in 20th at 1-under (71-72) and junior Ryan Abuan joins them in 28th at even-par (72-72). Together they combined for 22 of the Rebel lineup’s 30 birdies, while Little contributed two eagles and Lewis added one.

Also playing for the Scarlet & Gray are senior Wyatt Plattner (+5) in 63rd and junior Mason Snyder (+9) in 73rd.  Competing in the individual-only portion of the event on the Cascade Course, senior Billy Smith shot a 3-under 141 to sit tied for fifth and freshman Nico Bencomo (+7) opened play in a tie for 22nd. Junior Brett Sawaia (+6) rounds out the individuals in 67th.

LEADERBOARD: BYU grabbed the team lead after finishing the first 36 holes at 24-under for a 6-shot lead over Utah (-18) in second. Additionally, the Utes’ Gabriel Palacios (-10) and Cougars’ Peter Kim (-9) take hold of first and second in the individual standings, respectively. As a team, UNLV stands in 11th place going into the last day of competition at even-par 576.

UP NEXT: The Rebels’ third and final round is scheduled to begin Tuesday at approximately 8:05 a.m. PT.
