So devastated. The question we are trying to answer is, can I beat him if I start 500 P? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What? I said that’s wrong. He said, “I hope Grant embarrasses him.” Oh, no. Yeah, after hitting it further. After you have your second kid, you start to gain balls, man, dude. Oh yeah, straight at it. Wow, what a shot. Max is a big fan of the YouTube golf scene. He seems to show up on YouTube. Um, something about his game. If you guys have seen the Bob Dust Sports Max home video, some call it the greatest YouTube golf video to ever exist. Max did have a putt for 59. So, yeah, I’ve watched that video so many the putt so many times. I’m convinced it hit something halfway and stopped breaking. Have you ever shot a 59 before? Oh man. Oh no. I know. I still dread that day. It’s golf, dude. The high a highlight round. Great day with some good friends. Just all time day and it ends in misery. It’s golf for you. I feel like golf is always on the verge of embarrassing you. Like you’re always on the verge of It’s meant to doing something ruin you. Yeah. So the first two days at John Deere this year, uh, I played well. was my best event of the year. And the first day I was nine under through 17 and bogeied the last. It’s a hard It’s the hardest hole in the course, number nine. I bogeied the last and the next day, uh, I’m like up by the lead and I bogeied the last. 18’s another hard hole, right? Yep. And both days I left it, I’m like, I’m Why am I upset? Like I just I’m in the lead or whatever I was and I’m upset. I said, “This is golf for you.” It is. You can have the best of the of like of your life and you walk off looking back at Yeah. What could I have done? Yeah. Dude, you just spun back a what? Why a pitching wedge? A seven iron. Pitching wedge. Oh, that was a pitching man. Oh, out drove you by 60. Don’t Right. Right. I hit seven. Yeah, you hit seven. What am I saying right now? Are you an in guy or out guy? I’m an out. Cool. Are you an out guy? Always. Especially these things are super metal. Yeah, this is good. This is going to be a good day. We don’t talk enough that Bryson doesn’t putt with the pin in anymore. Nobody does. But like Bryson made a video about how it was so much better and then like didn’t announce it to the world and just kind of just stopped. Right. Right. There was no idea. And you’re two under after sick. I mean, I honestly don’t think that the seven more yards on the back tease there would have made much of a difference for me. Maybe not on that one. No, it just would have been a full patching one instead of a knockdown one. Second hole of the day. It’s 95 playing to 78. Problem is I can’t get a ball to skip on these greens. So Oh yeah, you’re This is just going to be short. I’m not going to play like I’m four down. Okay, I’m going to Is that an eight or a seven? I’m going to hit an eight. It’s kind of like just like playing Scotty. Like you’re just over there, right? He doesn’t even know you exist. Second place isn’t bad. I whiffed it. Trying to smash it. Right. Hit that hill and kick left. Oh, it’s pin high. Picked right. That actually went pretty far. Wow, that went really far. Tried to hit that so freaking hard. I thought you were going to get a resort golf bounce. I did, too. I thought I was going to be putting for sure. Yeah, like bounces off the slope. Yeah, I was pretty certain I was going to get lucky. All right, here we go. Door’s kind of open. You already cut the the lead by one. Good move. Thank you. Oh, that’s might have to sit, too. I think it’s going to catch that corner. Oh. way. All right. Wow, that played way shorter than the second shot on the [ __ ] did. Yeah, it did. I’ve always noticed when you ask somebody what their favorite golf course is or you have to ask them how they played there because if you ask somebody like how was Whistling Straits or how was whatever you go play Pine Valley, these top golf courses, if they played better, usually always it’s one of their favorites. But if they played, so that’s where it’s hard. I would like to say what I like one of the things I appreciate about professional golfers is when we play a golf course, it seems like maybe not across the board, but typically it doesn’t matter how you play, we can we have like a good assessment of like the place of the course, not based off of us, like based off of the golf course. And you guys do cuz there’s some great ones that I don’t think are great and there’s some that I’ve played terrible at that I think are awesome. I just don’t play them well. Do you guys mostly agree on a golf course being good or bad? Like I would say for Yeah, maybe not across the board, but top top fives I think on tour like are pretty close, right? It was interesting because Scotty loved TPC Sawrass. That’s his favorite course. Okay. See, we all love that place. I think that’s in everyone’s top five cuz anybody can win there, right? Cuz you got to like fade it and draw it. Yeah. It’s gotten so bomber heavy on tour that it’s nice to have an event where like, you know, Harmon Oh, I forgot a putter. Harmon can play good there, you know, up to like also like Scotty who hits a far, Rory, you know. So, it’s nice that you have a split 100%. This is feeling like a Tommy Fleetwood day of Beth Page. All right, we’ve only gone I know. It just does though because we’re playing We’re playing it very fair. We’re playing one T- box up today. It’s very scorable. Very nice. Thank you. Very nice. Pine Valley and Pebble Beach. It’s easily the my favorite walk in the world. Oh yeah. 100%. Cypress. Yeah. Yeah. Is Cypress higher up than Pebble Beach Rio? Depends how you rank it. I actually like the walk at Pebble more because you’re on the water way more than Cypress. The the the way I put Cypress and I find it fascinating is it’s kind of like a movie. You know there’s going to be like a climax. You know there’s going to be like a big fight scene, something awesome’s going to happen, but it’s going to be late. So you like play the course and you’re like, “Oh, wow. That’s a cool scene and that’s a cool scene and that’s a cool scene.” But then right as you walk through 14, you get to 15, 16, 17, you’re like, “Oh, this is what I came here for.” It’s special. But there’s something about walking pebble that is a little different. But like the uniqueness of Cypress is like truly not touchable. It’s not hard like at all. Cypress isn’t hard. Yeah. At all. So, I think a lot of people have a great day and then it gets ranked even like higher in your mind. The holes are very short cuz I just remember this guy telling me I was on the plane. He had a Cypress shirt on and he was like, “Yeah, I was like three under through 15.” And I’m like, “That’s incredible.” Because at Pebble Beach, if you’re three under 15, you’re You can do it at Cypress. After you saw the Cypress logo, did you show him the logo of you on your golf ball? I didn’t go that far. Okay. Ever since that, you kept it classy. Yeah. Yeah. Ever since my logo has been on the golf ball, I’ve uh not shown anybody. I just let them find out. I see. I don’t really remember where we’re going, but let me hit it really low. Dude, if you would have hit a four iron off the T. You were hitting four iron. I was hitting hybrid. Yeah. Yeah. We’re getting it in play. But because you hit that driver, I was like, I got to do you got to do it now cuz I’ll look mental. I’ll look soft. Very soft. We all have too much of an ego. Yes, we do. We We definitely do. The thing just had a warning up just so you know. It said be careful in the bushes. It said snakes and Grant’s golf balls. Too far left, Grant. Which is exactly I’m taking that as a the right miss is the way to go. You need something when you’re uncomfy. This this would be like enormous. That would be big. You’d get weirdly close to me. It’s like they’re them two are so different. Yeah, but Taco Taco will do it. Like he’ll make like his Brooks even though he topped it, his Brooks was like really good. Like really good. That’s hard to do. It’s so hard. His DJ was good. Like he’s done some really impressive ones. Fourth hole of the day. Par 4, 395 yards. Shorter hole. Just a placement shot off the tea. Beauty. And he would I mean this this house he hit on the very first hole is just so like I joked with him in it but it’s like the person who bought the house was like at least we won’t get hit with golf balls and like Bob they thought they were safe. Bob got him. No house is safe when Bob is on the course. This guy I always talk about it but the club feels good today. Oh you got that feeling in your fingertips. It’s I got a good feeling in my fingertips. Some days I wake up this the feeling is terrible but today it’s good. Some days I know it’s going to be a bad day. We get up there and I’m just losing my mind on him. And he goes, “I didn’t want to like mess up the whatever it was.” I was like, “I almost made it. Seven. Throw the camera. Chuck it.” No. Jet. Jet’s the man. And he does not. Yeah. He He seems so just like a He is so chill. Whatever, dude. I’ve seen a golf shot before. It’s the birdie. You could hole in it. Joe would just go, “Yeah, it would have been way better for views if we made it.” Oh yeah. See, this is a golf course Phil would rinse. Yes. Everybody cuz he is the best I’ve ever seen. Him and JT with like a eight iron from 110 yards. Yeah. Have you played a lot with Phil? Yeah, we used to I used to live here back in like 15, 16, 17. Mhm. And we would play uh all like all his off season. Yeah. I mean, he can just like Yeah. He would rip some wedges back today. Yeah, but he he he he makes some shots look so freaking cool. He like speeds it up down at the bottom. Yeah. And he he has so much lean. He’s the first person I’d see like be able to hit like a 60 or 64 degree like low, right? Like this high. Yeah. Yeah. We got to make this. Stayed out there. See? That’s that little like poa scare right there you got. Yeah. But it didn’t want to turn to the left. Oh boy. No, Max. One thing I did not mention when we first cuz I didn’t, you know, know when to bring it up, but last time I played here, the only time I played here, I did shoot 62. So, like I have a good vibe. That’s one of the funniest things I ever watched. He goes, “Yeah, so I got and he just immediately and he tricked himself trying to trick me.” Um, so Phil, we were tied after nine holes and then I went on to win. I shot three under on the back. Wow. Yeah. He’s like, “Yeah, I got, you know, I got you. Uh, I set the pins up. The greens are really fast. They’re going to be really hard.” And I just like quick cuts. This ball just sprinting down the hill. Yeah. So they they were both so good cuz the rematch he putts it off the green. The first time we’re together is that’s when he tricked me and I hit it OB. Oh yeah. So they’re two separate one’s the rematch and one the first time we’re together. I thought they were the same one. Okay. Yeah. And the and the thing is like the first time we’re together you look up to Phil your whole life like it’s Phil Mickelson and so like he tells you you know you’re going to have a dead flyer. You listen and then I fly OB. All right. We’re going back to the well. I’m going to hit the safety squeeze again. I just never I don’t know where we’re going. You know I don’t know. This is this is interesting guys. cuz we’re just kind of the fairways like there and we’re just hitting out there. Let’s just kind of uh guess that looks really good. So I was one or two back and I got on 12 and is one of the rare shots where the moment I mean it’s such a scary shot when you’re in the thick of it. Yeah. Yeah. And I aimed it right over the middle of the bunker. And it was one of those like stay down on it and just drive this nine iron. And I hit it. It was one of those rare times where I hit the shot and I said, “Holy, I did it.” Yeah. Like I pulled it off. I’m going to be in the middle of the green two putt and I’m going to get I’m going to have six holes to beat Scotty to win a Masters. And uh you can’t really see cuz it changed shadows and I don’t have good eyes. Then we hear a groan and we get up there and it’s in the ivy between the bunker and the bushes. So the bushes it rolls back. The bunker it would be hard. I would have made probably bogey, but it’s between it and this little strip of ivy. We barely found the ball and I thought it flew back there. Like me and my caddyy were kind of sick, Joe. We like couldn’t believe it. Yeah. And when we watched the video back, it landed on the fringe and hit like a rocket ship and bounced up into the ivy. I made double and then had literally no chance. Yeah. That’s I mean that’s what you and you live for those moments. It just sucks that you you you like you said you live for it and you I pulled it. I did exactly literally exactly what I was trying to do. Yeah. And it just got jettisoned, right, Scotty? But like I was felt good and I would have liked to know what I could have done. Yeah. I think the key, what I found, more than the positions, more than all these different things, tempo. If you have good tempo, like JT can speed it up and slow it down, like he can almost like JT’s one of the best players I’ve watched in person. Phil’s the same way. I feel like tempo’s such cuz like you took that up so slow and like a little bit because it’s easier to repeat. I guess I’ll say this, Phil and JT do it incredibly differently. Phil does all this stuff with a ton of shaft lean, right? Ball first. Um, and when even when Phil knocks down like an eight iron from 110 yards, which I think is like the coolest shot and JT’s really good at it, too. They both do it really differently. Like Phil still traps it. He has such good control of his body, which is where tempo matters. Justin does it all with like arm speed and it just like never flies, but he has more like throw at the bottom. Yeah. So, they do it different. So, the tempo helps cuz your legs and arms and body will move at the same rate, so it helps like direction. But all of the best wedge players flight the ball way down. So there is a part that tempo matters, but you need like shaft. You need the face strong and you need to just like hold it. I just like even you you take it back so nice and slow and long like long and slow and you’re basically like letting the matches up your body. You just it gets harder to get offline if you aren’t ever out racing your legs or anything. My biggest point is when I watch somebody hit a wedge shot and they try they take it back too short and then they decelerate. That’s where makes it hard to hit it good and it makes it hard to get the number right. Yes. Just left to right a little bit. This guy, we got team read now. All right, Reys, what do you see? Oh, my friend had a theory cuz I played a blade three iron for on Cornferry and he had a theory that if I ever got a playoff or final group with somebody and somebody saw that club in my bag, I would win because like how does anybody hit it? So, I always tried to like keep myself in a blade four iron as long as I could or three iron, but everybody kind of phased out of the three iron. So, I was like, “Okay, I’ll keep the blade four forever, right?” And then finally, I just started to be like, “This thing’s hard to just get up in the sky.” Like, I couldn’t play a par five with it. So, then now now I’m the opposite. I got a big one and a graphite shaft. I feel like blades are dying. I feel like blades. I know, but for a certain like for the tour, of course, but even like a lot of the tour guys, they’re getting the fat for irons, the fat makes very little sense even for highlevel players to play blades unless you have a specific like ball flight. Like I need the blade for the flight. When I go to a anything bigger than that, my ball goes so high and I mean we’re joking about this 8 iron. Great shot, dude. Oh yeah. 8 iron going far, dude.
