Georgia women’s golf finished 11th with a total score of 847 over three rounds in the Schooner Classic held at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma over the weekend.

The par-70, 6,200-yard course provided many opportunities to score low.

Sophomore Sydney Givens took full advantage of course, shooting a total of 9-under par and taking the first-place trophy home with her.

Givens posted a record-breaking 63 in the opening round of the tournament, beating the program’s prior low of 64 in tournament play. She continued to go low, shooting 1-under par in both of the following rounds.

“It was definitely unlike any other round I’ve ever played. My previous best score was 66. I was really trying not to look at my scorecard and just keep rolling in putts.” Givens said. “At the end of the round, I thought, ‘There is no way this just happened.’ I was a little shaken. I’m not going to lie, I’ve never done anything like that before.”

Her 9-under par finish ties her for sixth-best relation-to-par tournament score in program history.

Graduate student Maria Eidhagen Harrouch and sophomore Maria Garcia each pitched in rounds under par. Harrouch shot a 4-under par (66) on Round 3 and Garcia shot 2-under par (68) in the second round.

Junior Karoline Tuttle also contributed, posting rounds of 5-over par (75) and 2-over par (72) in the first and third rounds.

With Givens’ performance and additional low scores from other teammates, the team is showing progress before the regular season starts.

“Overall, I thought my game was in great shape,” Givens said. “My first round, I felt like I made a lot of great putts. I’m really looking forward to our next tournaments. This couldn’t have happened without the coaches’ help for sure.”

Throughout the three rounds, the Bulldogs shot combined scores of 5-over par, 2-over par and even. This left them at 11th place out of a field of 16 teams.

After a three-week break, the Bulldogs will compete in the Evie Odum Invitational on Oct. 16-18, held at the Princess Anne Golf Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
