DeGol and Brannan

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The team of Anthony DeGol and Sean Brannan closed out the local best-ball season over the weekend with a dominant win at the Scotch Valley Invitational tournament.

DeGol and Brannan scored rounds of 64 and 62 to post a two-day total of 18-under par-126, good enough for a 15-shot winning margin over the second-place team of Ryan Good and Mike Macionsky. Artie Fink Jr and Todd Homan finished third with a 36-hole total of 143.

David Snyder and Eric Glunt were winners of the first-flight at 140, while other flight winners included Brett Weibly and RJ Barnard (second-fight, 141), Jonas Aigner and Conner Wharton (third-flight, 145) and Kevin Quartz and Ryan Stuby (fourth-flight, 160).

DeGol and Brannan took a six-shot lead on Saturday after shooting 64 and only continued their stellar play on Sunday. After scoring a 32 on their opening nine-holes, the duo finished with birdies on four of their final five holes to post a 10-under par closing-round of 62.

“We played well both days. Everything about the tournament was so enjoyable,” Brannan said. “Playing with a great partner like Anthony is the ‘best’. You know he’s going to be in every hole, and that’s something that really frees you up.”

This year’s event marked a return to stroke-play competition and saw DeGol and Brannan capture their fourth consecutive title.

“It’s very cool getting to play with someone I know so well, someone I’ve been best friends with since both of us were young,” DeGol said. “Sean really got us going yesterday with a long birdie putt on the 10th hole. And once he gets going, look out!”

There was considerable talk among golfers over the weekend, praising the course conditions and fine work put in by superintendent Tim Wilk, despite the recent lack of precipitation. In the end however, this tournament will be remembered for the terrific play of DeGol and Brannan. Fink Jr had a front-row seat as he and Homan played with the winning team during Sunday’s final round.

“Anthony and Sean are the two best players in our area right now,” Fink said. “And they’re not just great golfers, both of them are first-class guys. You can’t say a bad word about either one of them.”
