when I was a young lad an elderly gentleman sat down beside me and one morning I was fishing Spring Creek just above the the famous rock that’s an area of spring cck I said to him I said when you were a boy and he was probably 80 or older and I said did you catch some big brown trout he says no son there was only brook trout and so I said were there any big ones he says well some would to go two or three lounds brook trout or 2 or three lbs so all the spring cck until it probably wasn’t until probably the end of the 30s when they started the stock Brown that changed spring corck

  1. I don't blame the previous generations for over harvest but the stocking they did was horrible. Ruined native fisheries across the north. Stocking small mouth bass in trout waters so the "American sports would have something to catch" we still get wild bookies in the 8-9lb range every now and then but only in the lakes that weren't messed with and don't connect to the waters they put bass and perch in.

  2. Honored that he is a "South Paw Legend" like me. We always come at the trout from a different angle. Prove me wrong.

  3. I always wonder this about the river, it’s smaller tributaries is always teaming with brookies, and even the rare caught in the main are small.

  4. I know of a place that had big brook trout <70 years ago but we eliminated for the hatchery's fish because of predation.

  5. As a Brit, I hate your rainbow trout here! No trout finer than a brown trout. The most wary and beautiful of fish!
