Always. We are presented by old
trapper beef jerky. Manti is
holding up a coffee cup. He is ready to go. We are juiced. On
Wednesday, September 17th,
Jamie Erdahl, Manti Te’o, Isaiah Stanback here at the
breakfast table in Los Angeles,
California, Kyle Brandt in New York City. Kyle Brandt, it’s a
Whiteboard Wednesday. We have
to talk about two very popular teams that people feel
emotionally about. And Tom
Brady on deck. Oh, yeah. And is it time to eulogize the Chiefs?
Who among us is going to do it
and say they’re done? It’s over. They’re playing for their lives
this weekend. And who won’t do
it? That’s the reason to stay tuned and find out. We always
love Wednesdays on. Good
morning football, guys. Jamie, let’s start the show. Come on.
Oh, no. Welcome to Good Morning
Football, presented by Old Trapper. That’s right. It’s
gmfb on a Wednesday. Everybody
welcome inside. Jamie, Mandy Kyle and Isaiah Kyle. What a
specific word choice for the
Chiefs eulogize because you yourself said I believe it was
before we played a single game
of the regular season that there will be people out there
in the media that will take the
Chiefs out of the playoffs, and don’t do that just to get a
headline. But now, does it feel
like those are actual headlines that we might have to be
talking about in the near
future? Yeah, it’s totally viable now. Listen, zero and
two is oh and two. They played
two games. They’ve lost them both. They have one this
weekend. I was just referring
to people in the preseason who were forecasting just for
forecasting its sake. But we’re
in a real deal, guys, because this time of year, you know
this, Jamie, there was
percentages come out of this percentage of zero, two teams
make the playoffs, and then
this percentage of zero and three zero and three is not
zero and one. It’s not zero and
two. This is a real real deal for the Chiefs this weekend. So
let’s get into it because this
is not talking off the top of your head. This is legit. It’s
really happened. The Chiefs
indeed are zero and two. And it’s an uncomfortable place I
can assume for Patrick Mahomes
to be in because he’s never done it before in his starting
quarterback era. If you include
last season’s Super Bowl, Mahomes has now lost three
straight games for the first
time in his NFL career. But his head coach, Andy Reid, says he
believes in this group of guys
to get through the tough times. I trust this group, this group
is a good group, got good
leadership and they’ll they’ll stay together. It’s, you know,
and they’ll work hard on
cleaning things up. There’s nobody more aware of it than,
than the guys. So. And we’ll
make sure we get back to the drawing board. Oftentimes it’s
a Sunday Night Football game
Monday night thing that has legs for us conversationally.
But it was the mid-afternoon
Fox game this of week two that still rings in our head. It’s
early September. We’re only two
weeks into the season, but Eagles Chiefs meant something,
and it’s why we’re still
covering it on Gmfb on a Wednesday. So I’ll go around
the table. Where do we stand
right now with the Chiefs? Do you want me to go get that
panic button off the table on
our set, or do you feel fine because they have the Giants on
deck despite their zero two
start? Well, I’m not getting the panic button yet, but I
also don’t feel really fine.
Listen, Patrick Mahomes, you know, going back to Andy Reid’s
interview, Patrick Mahomes
about the only guy that I trust besides that defense right now
on that team. However, Patrick
Mahomes also doesn’t have a wide receiver, one. He doesn’t
have a wide receiver. Two, he’s
not going to have him for some time. So can they hold off
until they get some
enforcements back? Can he make sure that he does the things
that he needs to do? Now we
talk about the Giants and they’re coming into town. The
Giants. And that front is no
they’re no slouch either. The Giants in that front is
starting to get things together.
So can Patrick Mahomes continue to do what he has to do in
order to make this team make a
run? Now, only in week three. But throughout the season, I
think we saw an example last
year in Josh Allen. His ability to do it with no wide receiver
one and no wide receiver two,
the guy goes out and wins an MVP and takes his team to the
AFC Championship game. I’m not
saying that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are going to do that.
However, we have seen that from
a team like the Buffalo Bills. So for me, Isaiah, if it can be
done elsewhere, why can’t I
look at the Chiefs and say a team that has a championship
DNA, a team that knows what it
takes to win a game, can’t do it as well. So I’m not getting
the panic button yet, but I’m a
little worried at the same time. Yeah, I put the panic button in
the closet. I’m not concerned
with these guys. You talk about somebody in Andy Reid who’s 143
and 53 as the Kansas City
Chiefs head coach, somebody who has, what, three Super Bowls
with these guys. I am
unbothered by the fact that they had a slow start. We’ve
seen them have a slow start,
but not necessarily in the records, but in terms of the
statistical categories. That
was last year. They had a new O-line, all that jazz. They
figured it out and still find a
way to win win games now because they have a zero and
two start against the Super
Bowl champions, and the ascending charges almost call
them San Diego Chargers. The
Los Angeles Chargers, everybody’s kind of starting to
panic and starting to freak out.
They’re trying to figure this thing out. They haven’t had all
their tools in their shed. They
they’re not hitting on all cylinders. Offensively. The
defense is taking care of
business obviously. But that’s one third of the game. So once
these guys start to piece it
together you know what you’re going to expect out of them.
There’s there’s some teams that
you have to panic buy because you just don’t know what you’re
going to get. With the Kansas
City Chiefs, you can rest assured that you just heard
Coach Reid say that these guys
are going to bond together. These guys are going to figure
it out. We’re going to get
these things corrected, and we will be who everybody expects
us to be. All right. So let me
ask you guys both this if you’re not concerned. They
played the Giants this weekend
at the Giants national television. They lose 2620 to
the Giants to Russell Wilson.
They went it’s zero and three now are you concerned. Then I
will begin to be concerned
depending on how it depending on how it goes. So yes record
wise we all understand the
statistics right. I know your hand is I’ll start to reach for
that panic button a little bit.
Pull it out the out the locker I said it’s in the locker I
will pull it out the locker.
But it depends on how they lose. Right. Is their offense really
struggling or are they just not
hitting hitting at all? Does it look like they’re not running
anything remotely similar to
Andy Reid? Offense? Is their defense all of a sudden have a
fall off game? Like it really
depends. So it’s kind of hard to say yes because these guys
have a potential zero three
record that oh my god, we got to sound the alarm. You have to
know who you’re dealing with.
This is the Kansas City Chiefs with Patrick Mahomes with Andy
Reid. There’s a vote of
confidence there to know that, hey, they’re going to find
their way out of a rut. A lot
of wiggle room for a allowances. Yeah. With this team. Yeah.
Well listen I think it’s
interesting to look at it through the prism of last year
in which they never really
looked good all year. And they won 15 games. So now they don’t
look good but they’re losing.
It’s they’re just stacking losses. And eventually it
becomes too many. Listen my my
take on these chiefs is that there is one thing that will
convince me that they are
cooked and that I should panic. And it is math. Mathematics.
When they are mathematically
eliminated. And let me tell you why I’m not just talking off
the top of my head. Let’s say
the Chiefs lose to the Giants. Let’s say they lose to the
Ravens. And they’re sitting
there at zero and four. What I know about this team is that in
the month of December, Patrick
Mahomes was 22 and six. In the month of November he is 21 and
four. And follow this the last
four games when the Chiefs could be coming and scrapping
and clawing and they got worthy
and they got rice the last four games on their schedule. It’s
the three divisional opponents
and it’s the Titans that is an opportunity right there to go
four and zero in December and
say we’re taking this thing back because we don’t need the
Chiefs to win the division.
Even you just don’t want the Chiefs in the club in January
having riddle off let’s say
five of the last six. And they have their full arsenal and
Rice and Worthy and everybody
right now it’s not pretty at all. I would not be shocked if
they lose to the Russell Wilson
New York Giants this weekend. And then Lamar Jackson Ravens
after that. It’s zero and four.
But until those guys are cold mathematically done I am not
bailing on it. I’ve seen them
late season too many times. I’ve seen the weapons they’re
getting back. And I love the
schedule in December that break glass in case of emergency,
they got to win those games.
There’s an opportunity. Well let’s keep let’s keep into
consideration because of who
they just played right. They just played number one. They
played the Chargers. The
Chargers right now are looking like the best team in the AFC.
That defense is the number one
pass defense. Week two. They’re the number one pass defense in
the NFL right now. They just
finished playing the Super Bowl champs the Philadelphia Eagles.
And that defense who arguably
won them the Super Bowl. So let’s put things into
perspective. They’re not
playing like the little Giants out here right. They’re playing
some dogs. And so when you’re
when you’re the Chiefs and you’re looking at these guys
and they’re oh and two you also
have to look into the little details and intricacies of who
they’re playing. They’re not
playing any jokes now. So that’s why I’m not really I’m
not I’m worried. But I’m not
panicking just because we’re not used to seeing Patrick
Mahomes lose twice in the
beginning of the season. However, given the fact of who
they played, I also got I think
you also have to keep that into consideration. Absolutely. And
those are two teams that could
easily be in the playoffs and the Chiefs could see. And what
Kyle is implying is that if you
let the Chiefs in, they could become Mr. Steal your Girl at
the club. Right. So we look at
the Chiefs, we look at the Chiefs. And we’ve had this
certain sentiment about them
over the last couple of years, which is people want to
celebrate success. But I think
oftentimes they want to poke holes in excellence. And that’s
what the Chiefs had going for a
long time. But now it feels like the Eagles have that going
for them. The Eagles here’s the
question. Have they surpassed the Chiefs as the team that NFL
fans love to root against Manti
okay. So you watch them. Yeah. You have a little smirk about
you when they do get beat or
when maybe they don’t succeed as much as they normally do. No,
I don’t think that the Eagles
have surpassed the Chiefs as far as NFL fans disliking him.
I think that the Eagles have
passed the Chiefs in the fraternity of the Brotherhood
of the NFL, of them not liking
them whenever it comes to when it comes to the tush push, and
about 50% doesn’t like a
singular play. And then you have defensive guys from every
single team talking trash
against you because they don’t like the play. And at the end
of the game, even though you’re
winning, one of the star defensive tackles is talking
trash to your quarterback
because they don’t like how things are going down. I think
that’s what has changed for the
Philadelphia Eagles. The guys that the other 31 teams don’t
like them collectively, where
as far as the NFL fans, I think they all see it the same way. I
think they still see the Chiefs
as a team that you don’t like for many different reasons, and
some of them don’t even include
football. So Isaiah, that’s how I see this whole dynamic. It
hasn’t changed for the fans,
but I think as a fraternity of the NFL, I think it’s changed a
little bit. Yeah. You can’t put
them in that category. I mean the reality is the Eagles won
the Super Bowl in 2018. They
won it in 2025. The reason why people start disliking teams or
hating on teams just like they
used to do with the Patriots, back when Tom Brady was
seemingly in that thing every
single year and accumulating all the Thanos Stones is
because of the number of Super
Bowl wins that you have. Now, you talk about the Kansas City
Chiefs. The Kansas City Chiefs
have won it 20, 23, 24. Yeah, that’s why people dislike the
Kansas City Chiefs because they
were walking away with jewelry every year. The Eagles have a
good team. The Eagles have been
kind of a thorn in people’s side as of late, but you can’t
necessarily put them as a
juggernaut that you can rest assured in every single year,
even this year, they’re winning
some ball games. But you’re not like, oh, the Eagles are
absolutely dominant. So I think
that they have a ways to go before they enter the the
hating realm. But right now
it’s still the Kansas City Chiefs that really people are
kind of like can they just go
away? This is an interesting question. I like this and let’s
let’s just take the temperature
in the room. Let’s try to think like fans. This is part of the
reason we are what we are as a
show. Let’s just do a round the horn. All right. So in terms of
the rooting against factor,
let’s look at the Eagles. The head coach check. Yes. Now what
I mean by that is I like Nick
Sirianni. But he is not one of these figures like Andy Reid
who is just across the board
lovable. And everybody likes him. He’s polarizing. Okay, big
check there. The quarterback I
like him. Jalen Hurts says some things that the everyman fan
does not like about him. He is
really handsome. That can work against you. He has a distinct
way of speaking in press
conferences that is off putting to some people. I think there’s
some of that. Plus he’s the
face of the tush push. We’ll get to that more in a bit. Fan
base. Oh yeah. Big check.
Infamous fan base. Off putting to some people. Not for
everybody. The general manager
check. Howie Roseman is coming up with too many dubs. People
get annoyed by someone who’s
that successful that often. He’s got kind of this Grand
Moff Tarkin feel to him now
where he’s this overseer, he checks it. Now you got to have
a wild card if you want to fan
dislike. All right. For the Patriots, it was all their
collection of gates and the
appearance of impropriety. Honestly for the Chiefs it was
Taylor Swift. People had strong
feelings about her. Otherwise it was this whole thing that
made part of the conversation.
And for the Eagles, it’s the tush push. It is a hugely
controversial thing that I
think this past weekend against the Chiefs took a massive jump
in terms of being hated, being
controversial because it appears to be an illegal play
now, not just a polarizing one.
Also, if you want to just sprinkle some more on top, I
still think there’s some
backlash the Eagles attached to Jason Kelce and how ubiquitous
he is, and people are saying
they’ve seen enough of that to blow back against it. One of
their most visible stars Saquon
I think is very likable. I don’t have a lot to look at him.
Everybody likes watching Saquon
play football. So there are some things going for the
Eagles in terms of likability,
but there is a huge, huge mountain that is getting bigger
every single week in terms of
unlikability. But the best part is the Eagles are the kind of
team, personnel and town to say
awesome. We love that we’re not fun, warm little Kansas City
with our barbecue and our big
drum and Melissa Etheridge and Paul Rudd. No, no. The Eagles
are like, yeah, you think
you’re better than me. Try to take me like that’s their whole
deal. So they like that. They
don’t like they don’t like that they’re not liked. Yeah. And I
think we’ve arrived there. Kyle,
I can’t believe you just went through an entire list of Czech
reasons why you could root
against the Eagles. And you did not mention that perhaps their
best player spit on one of
essentially America’s quarterback. And we I mean,
like that that in a headline in
and of itself, you’re like reason to dislike the Eagles.
All right. Check exactly the
big one. It’s a big big one. Exactly. All right. So we’ve
covered those two topics AFC
and NFC side. Next hour we’re going to cover what teams we do
like. No just kidding. We are
all over the news as it pertains to quarterbacks
especially this morning Ian
Rapoport welcome inside Gmfb. Let’s start with Joe Burrow
shall we. That’s right. The big
news of this week the status of Joe Burrow. We know by now
burrow is said to have toe
surgery to knock him out the next three months. We’ll see if
he’s able to come back at the
end of the 2025 season with the Bengals made it official
yesterday, placing burrow on
injured reserve again. Three months is the estimate. They’re
needed to make a variety of
moves to kind of fill in his roster spot and bolster their
quarterback room, Jake Browning
said. To be the starter, he filled in for burrow just as he
did in 2023. We knew that Brett
Rypien was promoted from the practice squad to the 53 man
roster. He’s expected to be the
backup and then Mike White and Sean Clifford both added to the
practice squad. So now four
quarterbacks for the Cincinnati Bengals for the bills
quarterback. Really no
questions there. He is going to start in a big one for both
teams really on Thursday night.
But he’s going to do it looking a little different. Josh Allen
is going to be wearing a visor
as you’ll see right there in that very nicely sponsored
Twitter post from the Buffalo
Bills. He had his nose beaten and battered on Sunday. Played
through it. He is Josh Allen.
No issues there. Not even on the injury report. But he is
going to play with a visor just
to protect that nose and make sure he has no issues. And you
know what is a physical game
and could potentially rearrange your face for the Jets. They
have quarterback questions
because Justin Fields is officially in the NFL’s
concussion protocol. This was
announced by Aaron Glenn Monday morning. I believe it was. And
we’ll see if Justin Fields is
able to practice today. If he cannot certainly be looking
like Tyrod Taylor, very
experienced backup would be the starter. Every concussion is
different and the way every
player responds is different. So we will monitor Justin
Fields status throughout the
week. But safe to say, if he does not practice. Unlikely to
play. And then guys I want to
get to another topic that we were discussing. Oh, I would
say the last 48 hours or so.
That guy right there, that’s Tom Brady that is partial owner
limited partner of the Las
Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady, sitting in the coaching booth
with a headset going over plays.
It sparked a national conversation about what Brady
is and is not allowed to do,
mainly because he is also the lead announcer for Fox. So
let’s go over it real quickly.
There’s no policy. The NFL said that Brady has to be barred
from the coaches booth. He is
allowed because he’s a limited partner. He is allowed in the
coaches booth. He is allowed to
have a headset. He can go to production meetings as part of
his job with Fox, but he can do
it virtually. He is not allowed in another team’s facility and
what a team shares with him
during those production meetings are up to him. So that
kind of is where we stand on
Tom Brady. He is allowed to do that. Teams can share what they
want. He’s allowed to do
everything virtually, but if you don’t want to tell him,
like what your plays are and
who all is injured secretly, then you really don’t have to
during those production
meetings. Does that make sense? It does make sense. Just a
quick clarification. I want to
make sure I say it back to you so we understand it fully at
the table. He is not allowed in
the other the 31 other buildings, but he can be in
those production meetings
virtually. Correct. Have you heard rapsheet of any teams
uninviting him from the
production meetings? I know last year he was not allowed
and this year I have not heard
of him being uninvited. It’s only been a couple games, but I
have not heard that yet. Okay,
yeah, it’s hard to take those meeting links right back. It’s
like, send that email, don’t
send it to that guy. Rap. Thanks so much. Appreciate you.
That was a lot to cover man. We
saw the visual. We know the impact that that man can have
on a team. And now he’s in the
broadcast booth. What do you think about this? It’s a little
complicated, I would say. Why?
Because from a broadcasting standpoint, if you can’t, if
I’m part of your team, right.
If if I’m part of a team and we’re going to call a game and
guys aren’t going to tell me
certain things, it’s going to impact you and it’s going to
impact us as a team and our
broadcasting and doing all the play by play and color stuff,
like, we’re not going to get
all the information. Now from a football standpoint, I don’t
see I think they’re taking the
necessary measures to ensure that he doesn’t get extra
information not allowing him in
the building. I don’t know what’s the difference between
not allowing him in the
building yet still allowing him on zoom and he can still talk
to the guy because oftentimes
the broadcasters are invited to practice, to practice. Makes
sense. I mean, I don’t know,
guys, it’s just a weird situation to be in where you
have somebody that has so much
access to a lot of people. Yet he also can tell his team that
he’s a partial owner of of all
the things that he’s doing. And they’re definitely asking him
because they set him on a
broadcast of the game that they would call Tom Brady. What
would you do with this? What
would you do against this player? And he tells him so
it’s definitely a complicated
situation. I just don’t know how how how it positively,
positively affects anybody.
Well, I can tell you guys that Tom Brady is always going to be
in the game like E. And this
dude loves the game of football. As you guys can see, he is up
there digesting and being a
part of the entire football process all the way down to the
seemingly the wanting to hear
the play calls. This dude loves the game of football. Now. He
understood what they were
getting into when they hired him. They also understand now
that if any harm is being done,
it’s being as you just mentioned to his team, because
now teams are going to be
apprehensive to give him access. And to Jamie’s point, the
reason why it’s so important
that he’s no longer allowed in those other clubs buildings is
because of the information that
he’s able to gather. By watching practice, you talk
about one of the greatest
football minds being able to watch, practice, dissect the
plays that they’re running.
Teams don’t have to now adjust what they’re doing in practice
because they’re concerned, or
whether or not Tom Brady is going to see it. He’s also not
able to walk through the
facility and see who’s getting treatment, things of that
nature. Right. So there’s
disadvantages now to him and yes, to his team. But
ultimately it only only group
that this hurts is Fox right. Fox is the only group that’s
really hurt by this and their
production because now they are losing access and losing that
trust that they had prior to
hiring Tom Brady. You know what I’m most offended by about all
of this is you have Brady
involved with the Raiders, the greatest football mind ever,
the greatest quarterback ever.
And their offense is terrible. What is he even offering them?
What they it’s the home opener
for the Raiders. They don’t even score a damn touchdown.
What are we doing. What is he
listening to on the headset. Which one yard run is going to
do or which interception Geno
Smith’s going to throw? If he’s going to be there can he even
help at all? Never mind. What’s
he going to share. There’s nothing to share about the
Raiders. Just line up and
tackle him and you’ll do fine. The offense looks awful right
now. I don’t know what he’s
contributing, but it’s certainly not helping Jamie. I
understand everyone’s outrage.
Kyle. I hear what you have to say. And everyone was making
this parallel about, like, look
at him in the booth and what he’s watching and who’s the he
has the bears this weekend and
who do the Raiders play after that? The bears and that they
were going to somehow figure
out how to beat the bears and that in that capacity, I also
what I have to remind everybody,
it feels so patronizing to do this is like, this is, if not
the best, like one of the
greatest football minds on the planet. When he covers a game,
I think he could sit with his
eyes closed, open them, watch a play, and probably know about a
thousand more things about the
play that just unfolded than we are ever going to. I think Tom
Brady has to simplify it, nay
dumb it down for fans at the time to make sure we understand
what he’s seeing. I don’t think
it benefits him whatsoever to stand with his arms crossed
with the broadcasters often do
at practice and be like, oh, now I know Baker Mayfield’s
check. That doesn’t matter to
Tom Brady. He can just watch a play unfold and still be
excellent at the job. So I
think certain checks and balances have appropriately
been put in place by the NFL
for him not to be allowed in the 31 other buildings. I don’t
think that will inherently make
him bad at the job. I don’t think it is a weird place for
Fox to be in, and Kevin
Burkhardt is an absolute pro and his two sideline reporters
are excellent as well. So I
don’t see the big issue. And to Kyle’s point, if the Raiders
were like beating everybody
handsomely, then it would be different. Yeah. There we go.
Tom Brady speaking of Baker
Mayfield, I just talked about his checks. Big fans of of him
on the show picked him to be
MVP. If earlier this month when I chugged a energy drink on the
show. Manti, you said that
these days people are calling oh, he is him. But you said
when you played he was a dog.
Dog. Guys, we have that question, that topic coming up
on Whiteboard Wednesday and two
others. Kyle. Yeah, I love that. Now we’ve reached the point
where saying someone has the
dog in them, that’s like an old school old head reference.
We’re way past that right now.
Now we’re going to move past him. And plus what are we
moving on to. The Chargers are
two. And oh lot of positivity with Harbaugh and Herbo. But
the Chiefs are zero and two. Is
this the year the AFC West finally falls out of the grasp
of the Kansas City Chiefs?
We’re talking about it. Why the hell not there. Oh and two
we’ll get into it. Gmfb on a
Wednesday. Get your whiteboards out. Good morning Football is
presented by old trapper beef
jerky. What’s your beef? Old to your doctor and learn more
at saved by the scan org. Rock
and roll. It’s Whiteboard Wednesday time. First question
on tap. We got business to get
to. So let’s go. Yesterday Manti, you were all hyped up
and now he’s an artist at what
am I not Jamie that’s a good point about our guy Baker
Mayfield. He’s everybody’s guy.
Let’s be honest. Here’s what I had to say about a considerable
MVP pick. Well, two things.
First of all, Baker Mayfield is that dude. Now they call him
him Timothy. Whatever. Back in
my day it was Dog Dawe like that guy is that dude. I like
the collective affirmation
there. Yeah he’s that dude. All right Manti Isaiah Kyle the
player that you think needs to
be that dog for his team in week three is who. Yeah. Are
you going to like this one Zay.
Talk to me Jake Browning. Let’s go baby Jake Browning you’re
starting boy from the leading
AFC North Cincinnati Bengals. There are two. And oh there are
number one in the AFC North
guys listen if you’re a Bengals fan don’t panic yet Jake
Browning is four and three as a
starter okay I know you have A2020 record right now. And
this guy has to be that dog.
Why? Because you got a whole bunch of little dogs around him
and Ja’Marr Chase and Tee
Higgins, but they can’t be the dogs they need to be unless
this guy is the biggest dog. So
I got Jake Browning, who is a Washington Huskies. Alright,
he’s a Washington Husky. He’s
going to take care of business. But you know who else needs to
take care of business for their
team? Who’s that? C.J. Stroud. Okay, Stroud needs to take care
of business. You know why C.J.
Stroud needs to take care of business? Because the Houston
Texans are. Oh, and two. What?
What is that again? 020, and two two. You know what else is
going on down there in H town?
They are last in the AFC South in points scored this year.
They have 28 points on the
board this year. You know who has number one the Colts. The
Colts with 62. So Houston
Texans with all their weapons have 28 points. The Colts have
62. He has to be a dog for his
team. They need him to ball out 62% completion percentage and
only averaging 198 yards a game
right now is not getting it done. Getting it done. Well,
I’ll tell you what. The Detroit
Lions put up 52 points last week in one game in one game.
And you know, hidden amongst
all the bears talk with Ben Johnson and Caleb this and
Caleb that they do have a
defense. And this guy is on it Montez Sweat okay KB all right.
Now there’s chatter out in
these streets in Chicago that this guy makes a lot of money.
He is a very, very highly paid
defensive end and the production is not there. It’s
only two weeks. Maybe it comes
back, comes in bursts in spurts. But somebody has to make a play
on this defense. Somebody has
to do anything on this defense. They have to win this game this
weekend. They have to get to
one and two. And I’m being very gentle here because I respect
Montez Sweat. He’s a good
veteran. He’s a really talented guy. But let’s just say the
bears fans are not being gentle.
And they’re basically saying, where the bleep are you? I know
where you should be this
weekend. It should be in the backfield. I believe you will.
But until we see it like nobody
is making any plays defensively for the bears, it needs to
start with this guy. Respect
Kyle to the calm, cool and collected delivery of that and
be representative of the bears
fans. Next up, we are two weeks into the season and here is the
two week truth serum test. As
Kyle often says, week one is a liar, but week two can tell the
truth. So as we enter week
three, tell the truth. What has surprised you the most through
the first handful of games this
season? Well, guys, I can’t lie. When I to see this team do what
they’ve been able to not not
just win, guys, the green Bay Packers have dominated, okay.
Like there’s there’s winning
and there’s dominating that team over there in green Bay on
both sides of the ball,
offensively and defensively are playing at a speed that I don’t
see in many teams in NFL right
now. Jordan Love winning the angry runs this week. That
defense they’re playing angry
every week I didn’t I I didn’t know that the addition of a guy
like Micah Parsons would have
such a big impact on that team. And I was I was sorely mistaken.
And I apologize to the green
Bay Packers. I didn’t have you in the playoffs, but guys, I
have you number one on my radar
right now. So I did not expect the Packers to be this good.
I’m glad that they are okay I
understand that. And those guys I that’s my Super Bowl pick as
of right now. But I can tell
you guys somebody who surprised the heck out of me, not only
just him, but what he’s doing
for his team. You know who that is? Daniel? Danny Dimes Jones
is that dude he is balling out
in Indianapolis. He is having a resurgence. This is somebody
who was through the first two
games has his team at the top of the AFC South. Those guys
are at what a two and zero. He
has 71% completion. He’s almost throwing for 300 yards per game.
Who would have thunk it that
Danny Dimes is going to go out there and take care of business
the way he is? I like what he’s
doing. Continue working baby. That’s a great one. And it’s an
improbable one and it’s a fun
one. And I love that storyline. I have a my mine is a pleasant
surprise in media in terms of
content and editorial topics and stuff. I love this year
that we’re on to week three,
and there has been, what, very little MVP talk. I enjoy that
this MVP topic and our industry
has way bloated and out of control. And by that, after
week one, people start saying,
who is your MVP frontrunner? It’s absolutely nuts. And last
year I think it hit its apex
with the two of them. That was genuinely intriguing down the
stretch because it could have
gone either way. But this thing now, I think it’s because
people can gamble on it, and I
think it’s because people are just hungry for content. I
don’t want to hear MVP talk
until after Halloween. We get into November and then we can
start saying it. You Google it
right now. It’s like Justin Herbert, MVP and it’s like,
guys, we just kicked off easy.
On the MVP talk. There’s so many other things to talk about.
I don’t like MVP talk this
early. See me after Halloween then we’ll do it. But right now
pleasantly refreshingly very
little Kyle. It reminds me of something you often do on the
show, which is, you’ll say, if
the season ended today, these would be your playoff teams.
What week do you normally
engage in that banter? Playoff team banter? Yeah I think
listen we’re getting there.
It’s well when do we get the standings up. When do we do the
division leaders wild cards and
then lurking like that’s like week six or something. We’re
almost there guys. Trust me
it’s coming I like that before the MVP okay good to know I
guess that’s what I was. I was
looking for mile markers on the show editorially, but that’s
that’s a good one to know. All
right. So last one for Whiteboard Wednesday. Yesterday
we unfortunately actually
during the show learned of the passing of the Great one,
Robert Redford, an actor whose
career left an everlasting impact on Hollywood. Well, Kyle
yesterday spoke beautifully on
the actor, but also referenced some of his movies on a watch
list that you should see if you
are a young person or you just want some nostalgia and you
want a Robert Redford watch
list, watch The Sting, my favorite Robert Redford movie.
You also get him with Paul
Newman, watch Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, watch The
Natural. If you want something
more contemporary, watch a movie he did in the 90s called
sneakers, in which he’s on
screen with Sidney Poitier and many other greats. It’s an
awesome movie. This is an
incredible career, an incredible American life, a
very significant passing. Old
people, young people, middle aged people. Take a minute if
you want to and take in some
Robert Redford because he was really one of the great ones.
Really well done, Kyle, and it
was fun to listen to you talk about some of those films
yesterday, but it did get us
thinking about movie topics. For question three of
Whiteboard Wednesday, you’re
flipping through the TV guide, which used to be a thing, and
you see a movie, and there must
be that number one movie on your watch list that when you
see it pop up on your TV,
you’re like, nope. Now I got to sit down and stay on this
channel and finish watching
this thing all the way through. What’s yours? It’s one of my
favorite all time movies, The
Count of Monte Cristo. Like, if you don’t know anything about
this movie, it’s based on a
novel by Alexandre Dumas. It’s Jim Caviezel. I think that’s
how you say his name. A young
Henry Cavill. Like this is about a story about a guy who’s
a sailor. He gets betrayed by
his best friend. He gets sent to the Chateau D’if, I think
they call it where they had,
like a prison. And it’s over there. He escapes, finds a
treasure, and then seeks his
revenge. That way, where he becomes like this, this big
lord over there, and then he
gets his revenge and takes his wife and all of that stuff. So
he takes his wife back. Count
of Monte Cristo, if I see it on TV, play it, play it on repeat
because I’m going to watch it.
Monte Cristo, what? Do you know that movie? Never heard of it.
Watch it. I was like, why are
you making that? I’m gonna add it to my watch list. Yeah, yeah,
yeah, that was intriguing. I
have homework so good. I am going to go with Talladega
Nights. You know why you’re
making that face? Because that’s your movie. That’s why
Talladega Nights, I’m always in
a place where I want a good laugh. And this is the most
quotable movie of all time. You
guys can add me on that one, I don’t care. There’s a lot of
good ones out there, but this
one right here has all the quotes that you can imagine.
There’s not one human on this
earth that has seen this movie that can’t name at least 3 or 5,
3 to 5 quotes off the top of
their head. This is my number one that I cannot pass up. If I
had a TV guide, guide, guide,
whatever you want to call it. When Ricky is running around in
his underwear, help me with
your black magic Tom cruise invisible fire burn, my friend.
All right, we played the clip
to start. I’m just I’m going to double down on this. And I want.
If you’re looking for a movie,
watch sneakers, 1992. This is the most underrated movie of
the 1990s. The most underrated
movie of the night. Let me tell you what we got three first
ballot Hall of Famers in
Redford, Kingsley and Poitier. And then a fourth one shows up
when James Earl Jones is in one
scene at the end of the movie, you have River Phoenix the year
before he passed. You have Mary
McDonnell in the wake of Dances With Wolves, Dan Aykroyd doing
all kinds of technical jargon
and computer talk like he’s Ray Stantz. David Straithairn damn
near steals the movie as a
blind guy. And then you got Stephen Tobolowsky, who you
know as Ned Ryerson from
Groundhog Day, absolutely chewing up scenery. It is so
fun. It’s a heist movie. It’s
kind of a spy movie. It’s a comedy. It’s a drama. There’s
romance, it’s got a weird title,
and I think that kind of hurt it. You think it’s about shoes?
It’s not at all. It’s called
sneakers. It is funny. It is charming. You will love this
movie. Most underrated movie of
the 90s is sneakers, starring the late Robert Redford. Trust
me. Well, then why is it called
sneakers? Kyle, can you allude to that a little bit or what’s
your interpretation of it? They
have this this organization, this, this group of people, and
they have a clubhouse and they
go and they try to break into places to prove to people that
it’s easy to break into, like a
bank would hire them to break into their bank and then submit
a report to the bank about,
here’s what we did, and here’s what you should beef up about
your security. It’s kind of
interesting. So they sneak around. It’s also a very
prescient movie. There’s
comments it’s making about technology and kind of science
and government that are really
to this day, relevant sneakers. Ignore the title. Shawshank
redemption is a terrible title.
Okay, yes, sneakers also has a terrible title, but the movie
is fantastic. Just trust me,
I’d stake my reputation on it. Okay, great. That’s really good
to know, Kyle. Appreciate that.
You know, so much of the requirement for, like, a great
Hollywood tale is just the
ultimate character and story arc. And going to break on Gmfb.
Kyle, I would just love your
Hollywood interpretation of what story would be this, you
know, part of this movie? Oh,
no. No. What are the Canadians going to win the AFC? Let’s
talk about it. Let’s do it. Why
not. It’s never too early. Who’s your 2026 MVP. The
international games are back on
NFL network. And here are our presented by Caesars Sportsbook.
All right. Let’s take a look at
the odds for the first touchdown in tomorrow night’s
Dolphins Bills game. Himbo
James Cook. Usually you put the middle name in the middle.
James himbo cook. But now it’s
just so prevalent that you got to put it before James Cook to
score first is plus 425. Josh
Allen is plus 475. And remember it’s rushing or receiving
touchdown not a passing
touchdown. So that Josh Allen number. Look at that. Dolphins
running back Devon Devon Devon
excuse me A-chan is to find the end zone is plus eight 51st.
And bills wide receiver Keon
Coleman is at plus 1000. New users can bet $1 to boost their
next 20 bets by 100%. Must be
21 or older. See caesars.com/promos for full
terms. Cheri Burris, good
morning to you on Gmfb. What are we looking at today, Cheri,
an appropriate way to
participate in the game of football. Yes, yes. Good
morning to you too, Jamie. And
we are looking at the way to play, which is an award fueled
by Gatorade. They were created
to recognize and reward players who lead by example using
proper playing technique. The
week two winner is bills defensive end Joey Bosa, who
went to the club at MetLife
against Justin Fields and the Jets on Sunday. And with more,
here’s five time Pro Bowl
defensive back and current executive vice president of
football operations for the NFL,
Troy Vincent. One of the things that you work on every single
day at practice is strip
clubbing the ball, punching the ball out. The pass play is not
there. So he takes off and
fumbles the football and is recovered by B hustle.
Look at this hustle. Look at
him chasing the quarterback from behind. Perfect punch out.
We have not seen this kind of
punch out since the old legend Charles Peanut Tillman. As we
would say in Buffalo. This is
circling the wagon. This is championship football. Great
job Joey. Well for Bosa’s
terrific way to play. Example. The NFL Foundation will award a
$5,000 equipment grant. And
that’s through USA football to a youth or high school program
of his choice. You can learn
more about the NFL way to play, check out Play Football.
NFL.com announcing the winner
right here next week. Coming up more right here on Gmfb. We
have much more coming your way
next. Oh okay big wheels we see NFL in reach MVP. Time for a
wake up call presented by
Verizon. The Chargers have played a game in Brazil and in
the continental U.S. yet not at
home. However, their head coach, Jim Harbaugh, still has his
warm and fuzzies like it is a
home game in the locker room after their two wins came on
the road. Two and zero. Can’t
be three and oh, unless you’re two and zero. Winning football
by the special teams. Winning
football by the offense and guardians of victory. How about
that defense? Wow. Wow. Come on
up here. Defense. Yes! You too man. Yeah. All you guys, man.
All you guys. Look at three
fourths three Interception. Come on champ. Come on. Can’t
be three and zero without being
two and zero. Man. We know that the Chargers they are your team
that drafted you. You know that
you’re bought into what they’re doing. Are you on board with
the way they’ve gotten to two
and zero. I’m not on board Jamie I’m not. And the reason
why I’m not on board is because
if you understand the history behind the term on board, it
was originally it started in
the 60s. However, it dates back to the early days of seafaring
on boats. And so account for
everybody that was on board the ship. I am not on board because
I am steering the ship, guys.
In this case I am steering the ship that is the Chargers.
They’re going to go to the
playoffs. They’re the best looking team in the AFC right
now. Might be in the NFL. So I
am not just on board James I am steering the thing okay. All
sails up full full steam ahead.
It’s it’s perfect. Harbaugh Laura when you have the man who
is an offensive mastermind
saying defense get up here. Derwin’s got a big old smile on
his face. It takes the entire
team on the ship to steer them towards the playoffs. And
that’s what we’re looking at
right now. Great start for the Chargers. We’ll be right back
on Gmfb. It’s got an NFL offer.
Don’t play with me. Think I’m adopting a teen at Adopt Us
kids org. It’s time for What’s
Your Beef? Presented by Old Trafford. Taking on the medical
community today in What’s Your
beef? All right. A terrible thing happened to the
Cincinnati Bengals and Joe
Burrow this week when the quarterback now is going to be
out for several months with a
turf toe injury, it’s like the worst name for an injury
possible to be out as long as
you can. So I have power. Ranked the lamest names for
foot injuries because I hate
them all, and I take issue with every single one. Number five
this isn’t really an injury as
much as it is just a disgusting word that I want to stop
hearing, especially as it
pertains to the elderly community. But if I hear
bunionectomy one more time like,
can we change the name? It’s a terrible word. I know it’s not
a football related injury, but
I kind of just wanted to put the word bunion on Gmfb. That’s
number five. Number four, I
have much more specific examples. All right. Do you
guys know what a Jones fracture
is? You shouldn’t because it’s just a random name of a person
with the word fracture next to
it. But it’s when you actually just break bones on the side of
your foot. You need that to cut
in the game of football okay. And Dez Bryant had it Derrick
Henry had it. Guys that you
want to see and their ultimate athleticism come back from a
cut back. You can’t if the side
of your foot is fractured. And the lame way to recover from
this is just in a walking boot,
which is just like a silly little thing that makes you
look like you can’t, like, get
your shoe on straight. It’s terrible. I don’t like the name
Jones fracture. Fix it. Number
three plantar fasciitis. Okay, this the bottom of your foot
hurts. No, I think there’s
actually, like, incredible pain that comes with the arch of
your foot. And if you have to
come back from this, which Peyton Manning had to, it’s
terrible. And it feels like a
sword is going up to the bottom of your foot. I’m going to need
us to change the name plantar
fasciitis. I don’t even know how to say the second one. I
oftentimes get it wrong. I
think this is a French person, and that’s why we’re calling it
that. Lisfranc Lisfranc. It’s
bad. Maurice Jones. Drew. Callie, get the network. You
have this. Apparently in 2012.
I feel terrible for you, and it sounds like a really lame
injury that should probably
take you, like, day to day, but it sounds like it requires
surgery and it hurts a lot. So
let’s change this name as well. And lastly, what I began with
is the turf Toe experience.
Guys, it takes three months for someone to come back from this.
This should be the most
intimidating and painful name of an injury possible. Joe
Burrow I feel for you Deion
Sanders. We know that you suffered from this and you’re
playing career. And now it’s
been an elongated pain process. So there it is. My beef with
foot injuries. Terrible names
across the board Kyle Brandt Jamie great list a disgusting
list. Disgusting. Absolutely
gross. And that’s what you were going for. If you make a list
you got to talk about emissions.
I want to shout out to gout, which is a rough one. And also
like I think you got gout and
the goat. What about the goat? Athlete’s foot, which is
supposed to sound like some
cool sports injury. You got a fungus between your toes. It’s
disgusting. You spray it with
tough actin. Tinactin. Great list. Thank you, thank you. The
list is great, but I have a
personal association with one of them. And that’s the list.
Frank. Is that how you say it,
Frank? It came from somebody who was on a horse. Their feet
were stuck in the stirrups.
They fell out of the stirrups. Their whole foot just pretty
much blew up. It took me nine
to 9 to 12 months. Yeah. Blown up foot. That’s a better way to
explain it than Frank. Like
it’s terrible. And bunions. Bunions? Disgusting bunions.
That’s a terrible word. Those.
No. Sunday’s hit different when float. Cut cut cut cut. Guys,
my legs are chafing. Come on.
Come on. The float is. It’s. Good morning football everybody.
Presented by old trapper beef
jerky. It is a Wednesday, September 17th Jamie Erdahl
here in Manti Te’o there Isaiah
stand back at the breakfast table as well in LA and Kyle
Brandt in New York City. Kyle,
what’s the word for what we’re up to today on Gmfb? Well, we
are not happy that some teams
in our league are zero and two, but that’s just the nature of
competition. We are going to
pick one of those zero and two teams, just a matter of moments
and say no, no, no, no, no, no,
you’re all right. On your feet. Dust off. Get back in there,
buddy, and we’ll tell you
shortly who those teams are. Let’s start the show. Come on.
Oh, no. Welcome to Good Morning
Football, presented by Old Trapper. That’s right. Halfway
through your workweek,
everybody on the doorstep of week three in the NFL. So we’re
going to do a little check in
to start our Wednesday on Gmfb with a segment that we like to
call three and out. All right
Kyle just made reference to it. It’s Jamie Manti Kyle and
Isaiah. As always as I like to
make mention we have oh and two teams. All right. There is a
handful of you. And we are
going to address you individually and maybe call you
to the front of the class and
have a little discussion, shall we. So let’s look at these two
teams as a part of our three
and out. This is first down. Let me remind you that neither
of these teams entering week
three are. Oh and two okay. You got the Jets which you know
there is some surprise and
there is some shock. And then there is some ultimate
discomfort, like with the
Chiefs being on this list, nine teams and last season entering
were zero and two. Week three
okay. Now we’re looking at this group the Rams, the Ravens, the
Broncos and the Bengals were on
that list last year. But now you’re looking at this group.
Which current zero and two team
are you least worried about right now? Manti you only have
to pick one. Keep that keep
that graphic. Look at the graphic guys. Out of all of
those teams, I’m going to
summon the New York Football Giants. Come to the front of
the class. Okay? Okay. Out of
all those teams, I think we can all agree that the team that
had drastic improvement from
week one to week two was the New York Football Giants. In
week one. They only scored six
points. Now it wasn’t a touchdown and a missed field
goal. It was two field goals.
That’s all. They scored all game against the commanders.
Then they come next the next
week against the Cowboys. And they scored 37 points. They
only had 150 yards passing.
Week one. Week two over 400 yards passing. They punted six
times a week. Week one. They
punted only three times last week, so if I had to choose one
of the two teams this week that
I’m not as worried about based on their performance and the
improvements that they made
going from week one to week two, I got to say, it’s the New York
football Giants, Isaiah, and I
hope that they continue on that trajectory of improvement
because I know the fans want it.
Okay. All right, I hear you. And that makes sense. But the
team that I’m going to go with
is actually about to play the New York Football Giants. And
they just have the same colors
as this right here. And and you just get rid of this because
there’s no panic button. It is
the Kansas City Chiefs. The Kansas City Chiefs are you
don’t have to worry about these
guys. Yes they’re zero and two. But they just played the Super
Bowl champions to kick off the
year. And then they lost to the Chargers who are arguably one
of the better teams in the AFC.
They are going to figure it out. And the reason why you can have
confidence in the fact they’re
going to figure it out, because that’s all they’ve done since
2020. They’ve been in the
conversation. They’ve been in the Super Bowl. They always
find their way in the playoffs.
And if you let them in the playoffs, they’re kicking down
the door. Well, also, I think
that if you think about Patrick Mahomes and you see him doing
this a lot, right, Patrick
Mahomes is taking a play out of Josh Allen’s playbook. When
Josh Allen last year didn’t
have the weapons that he’s used to having with Stefon Diggs and
Gabe Davis, he started to run
the ball a lot more. And you see that with Patrick Mahomes.
And I’m sure that connection
with him and Travis Kelce will continue to get better. But
until then to your point Isaiah.
They don’t have a wide receiver one and wide receiver two right
now. So it’s just a matter of
time KB I’m supposed to say the Texans. But I actually do have
concerns about the Texans.
They’re not my answer. I feel like last year so much of their
identity was Joe Mixon. He was
so strong and so tough and they fed him so much. Hasn’t been on
the field. Let’s keep our eye
on the Texans. I wish I could say him, but I can’t. I’m
actually going to go in their
same division. I’m going to say the Titans and just hear me out.
I don’t know if the Titans are
going to win ten games this year. I don’t know if they’re
going to win six games this
year. I think I’m least worried about them because I think they
have the right quarterback.
It’s it’s a broader picture of the Titans. I know that it’s
been modest statistically with
cam Ward. I just think the the optics and if you watch the
games outside of the highlights
and you really watch the Titans, everything about his presence
and his body language and his
confidence is there. That’s all I care about right now for cam
Ward. I don’t need him to light
it up statistically. I just want him to look like he
belongs. And he does. Maybe not
this year yet, but I’m not worried about the Titans long
term. I think they made the
right choice. I get it that the number isn’t. It doesn’t imply
where the Titans you think are
at in terms of their skill set and the guy that they have at
quarterback. Kyle, I’m
wondering why you said you were supposed to say Texans. Did
somebody get in your ear and
say, hey, you should really say the Texans. Are you feeling
some obligation? Just like you
look at the list and like they’re they’re winning playoff
games and stuff. They’re in
there. And it’s like, well, we should probably say the Texans
because everybody picks them to
win the South. They just beat the Chargers in the playoffs a
year ago. And yet I look at
them and listen. Obviously there’s a lot of teams I’m
highly concerned about. But one
that jumps off that you’re like, no, no I think they’re fine.
It’s tough. If somebody goes to
the Chiefs. Sure. Listen bears heavily concerned giants. All
these are obvious. The Texans
should be the one that’s like hello, we’re the Texans. But
based on this year alone, like
I don’t love what I see. Is it unfortunate to say I’ll pick
another team off the list? It’s
almost like if you’re on this list and we don’t mention your
name to answer that question,
that like that should be even more concerning. So can I just
yeah it’s tough. The Dolphins
are kind of right where we may have thought we were at. We
really tried to do some work
for the Dolphins over the summer and just say this or
that about their head coach or
their quarterback. And while we weren’t sure what it was going
to be, we tried to peel back
the onion, if you will, on it. But the dolphins, it’s kind of
like that. We expected them to
be on that list. Is that a terrible thing to say about the
Dolphins? Yeah. Jamie. What?
Jamie, if we were if we were a different show, you pull up the
list and say, who are you most
concerned about? But that’s not our show, because then we’re
just kicking people while
they’re down. I think you know the answers to that. We’re
trying to lift them up. Okay,
good. And we did that and we did that. Well, Mike Tomlin
would like to lift up his
defense. All right. This is second down on three and out.
We know defense is synonymous
with Mike Tomlin. So when he is unhappy with his group he comes
with receipts. To recap the
Steelers defense gave up 32 points in a win against the
Jets and 31 points in a home
loss to the Seahawks. Here’s the head coach. Our defense
wore down some, particularly as
the game went on. We had the desire to improve our run
defense, and I thought
particularly initially we did. But there’s an attrition
component to the game and our
lines got a little thin at various points in the game. I
thought we felt the effects of
that. We did similar things week one. Certainly there’s
some things, you know, I often
say two is a pattern and we’ve got two games under our belt.
And so I see some things that
certainly need our attention. And and so I’m excited about
getting to work okay. So week
one is a liar. And Tomlin says that two weeks in a row is a
pattern for his defense. And
it’s one that he wants to break. Seattle did score a special
teams touchdown on a botched
kickoff, but this is not the type of production that that
head coach wants to see on that
side of the field for Pittsburgh. So when you
consider the money that they’ve
invested, the Steelers are spending a ton and they have
some cap space to move forward
with. But how do they improve? What do you see inside of this
Tomlin led Steelers defense.
Well you remember a month ago I said that we had a question on
this show. Who is the player
outside of Aaron Rodgers. That is very important to their
success I said Cam Heyward. And
this is exactly why I said Cam Heyward. Like we talk about
what is paid to that defense.
What was paid was for guys in the past defense. You got
rushers that you paid and you
got corners that you paid. The only other guy interior that
you did that you paid was Cam
Heyward. Other than that, like that, the interior of that
defense needs to be addressed.
They are they are allowing 150 yards per game. That’s that’s a
28th ranked rushing defense in
the NFL if you can’t stop the run. And I’m saying this as a
defensive guy, if you can’t
stop the run guys, you have no chance. You have no zero shot
at stopping anybody. So I trust
that Mike Tomlin is going to do what he needs to do. I trust
that that man next to him, Cam
Heyward, is going to do what they need to do. Because if
anything we’ve learned about
the Pittsburgh Steelers, their identity is defense. And it
starts with stopping the run.
And so when they’re able to do that, then we’ll be able to
speak about them in the light
that we’ve been used to speaking about them for history
sake. The Steelers have the
second oldest roster in the league, and I know we’ve always
identified them as having being
the Steel Curtain and them being defensive juggernauts.
But the reality the reality is
Father Time is just that. It’s Father Time. So that’s not to
say that they can’t be
successful, but let’s not act as if that’s not an element
that we have to take into
consideration. You brought up Cam Heyward. He’s not the
youngest spring chicken in the
world. They brought in Jalen Ramsey. He’s he’s he’s up there
as a vet as well Darius Slay
he’s been around the league. So some of your key ingredients
some of your key contributors
that you’re depending on are not the youngest cats around.
And they’re healthy right now
because at the beginning of the season. So what do they look
like as the season progresses?
I don’t foresee them getting better, but I do see them
finding a way to have some kind
of success on the field. Listen, this team is so ten and seven,
slash nine and eight. I can’t
stand it. They are right there after two weeks. It’s exactly
what you want. But here’s my
take on this. We said Mike Tomlin is never going to have
30 points twice in a row to
start the season. His defense he didn’t really. And let me
explain why you guys know this.
I’m coaching youth tackle football fifth and sixth
graders. For the first time
ever. We had our first game over the weekend. We did win,
but there’s keep it
simple. In the fourth quarter we were having trouble running
the ball. So we call a timeout.
We bring all these 11 kids over and we look all at them and we
go, listen, we’re going to go
on two. Don’t false start. We’re going to go on two.
They’re going to jump offsides.
We’re going to go on two. We had to call a timeout just to
talk over that. We were going
on two. You ready. Are you ready. And they’re like yes yes
yes. And we’re like they go, we
send them off. And all of us coaches are like, hold on to
your butts. Here we go. And
they go down. Set, hut! And one of the kids moved and it’s all
right. It’s all right. We went.
We all started the kids. It’s week one. Fine. The reason I’m
bringing that up is that you
could have taken that kid. Or all 11 kids on my fifth and
sixth grade football team and
put them back, returning kicks for the Steelers, and none of
them would have let that ball
go into the end zone and just sit there. All right. You could
have taken a ten year old or an
11 year old. None of them are making this play. All right.
That is inexcusable for the NFL.
It’s inexcusable for the Steelers standard in which they
literally say the standard is
the standard. This is not on the Steelers defense. Don’t put
it down in history that they
gave up 30 points two weeks in a row because they did not they
did not give up that touchdown.
I’m telling you, we could have looked at any of our collection
of of Aiden’s and Caden’s on my
whole team and all the Aiden’s and all the Caden’s would have
picked up that kickoff, but the
Steelers didn’t. All right. I got two things, Kyle. One, you
can’t just slide in the fact
that you’re undefeated as a head coach right now. Just just
saying you can’t just slide
that in. And then number two, I imagine you as a coach on the
football field as Will Ferrell
in Kicking and Screaming, is that is that a fair comparison
as to how you are on the field?
First of all, not bragging. It was six to nothing. Second of
all, not the head coach. I’m
the assistant. And Isaiah I will tell you this. I have
found out so much about myself
through this because I imagine that I was going to be the cool,
fun coach. I have news guys. I
am the touch the line coach, touch the line. Get back here
and touch the line. I’m the run
to water. Run to water. You run. I’m that guy. I’m so
disappointed in myself. I
thought it would be fun. I’m the jerk. So yes, Isaiah,
you’re right. Is the. Get your
hands off your head. You’re not tired? Yes. What is that? What
is? When we do conditioning,
you put your mouthguard in your mouth. Guard is going to be in
the game. Timmy, put that mouth
guard in. It’s ridiculous. I’m disappointed. Helmet. Yes yes
yes yes, all of that. I’m doing
it. We speak at KB Caden’s, Aiden’s and Timmy’s. That’s. We
know you got Kyle’s kids. Great
players. Great. Is Sean McVay a touch the line coach. That
remains to be seen. But we did
learn something else about him. This is third down on three and
out Sean McVay. Oftentimes
we’re waiting for him to tell us about injury sustained to
his team to his team. And that
might affect how you cheer for the Rams or your own fantasy
roster. But on the coach McVay
show which is produced by the Rams, Sean McVay threw out a
name that was unforeseen and it
took us all by surprise. What’s good? You know I did tear my
plantar fascia so. Oh no. Yeah.
Well that’s a good thing because now I guess it allows
you to heal a little bit faster.
But, you know, I was being dramatic limping around towards
the end of the game. But you
know, the the MRI confirmed I did that. But good news is I’m
not playing, so I’m just on the
sidelines watching. So if I have a little cool limp to add
some swag, then you’ll know why.
I just got done saying that plantar fasciitis is a lame
name for an injury. But coach,
if you’re going to tear your plantar fascia. Yes, that
sounds more intense than we
accept it. Okay, Manti, what do you make of this news about
coach? Yes, I just want to
clarify. It’s two different things. Plantar fasciitis is
when you still have your
plantar fascia intact. It’s just very, very irritated and
inflamed. When he tears the
thing, it’s gone. So I torso. I tore my plantar fascia my
senior year in college. Guys,
it’s not fun. But the doctor told me the same thing. Oh,
nice. You don’t have to wear it
anymore. You don’t got to ice it. He was wrong. Okay, now my
foot, like, tilts in like there
is no arch support. Nothing. So coach, like we’re we’re one of
them inserts in your foot
because once they went down like this guys everything else.
My knee, my hip, my back, all
of it, it just went up the chain. And now it’s like
getting into my neck now maybe
into my brain sometimes early in the morning here. So it all
started from that plantar
fascia tearing. So coach, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Keep an insert in that shoe
because you’re like that. So so we just learned that Manti has
a gangster lien on his shoe.
He’s the guy that has all the cushion on one side of the shoe,
and inside he’s got an extra
sock on my right foot. Listen, with coach McVay telling us
that all I heard is that he’s
explosive. That’s all I heard. Yeah coach he’s still got the
juice. And he popped off. Yeah.
Pull up and pop off. That’s what coach McVay has. No he’s
he’s one of the greatest
coaches man I love him I love his energy. And to your point
man. And I was just telling
Jamie this to tear your plantar fascia is much better than to
have it be straight because of
the fact that that irritation man. So kudos to coach man.
He’s engaged. I foresee him
having a little, little, a little hitch in his giddy up,
but he’ll still be doing his
thing. Yeah. The funny thing about this is the palpable
excitement from Sean McVay that
he got injured. Like he’s actually into it. He is in the
starting five of NFL head
coaches who so badly wish they were still playing the game.
Harbaugh is in it, too Jim
Harbaugh. He thinks it’s part of the game. Sean loves this. I
think he loves that he’s hurt,
that he’s got to coach hurt. He’s got to dig deep. He’s got
to extract different lessons
about life and football from it. And by the way, like he also
joins the club of there’s a
bunch of coaches who have gotten injured in games on the
sideline. Sometimes it’s not
pretty, but sometimes it’s kind of amusing. Pete Carroll got
blasted in the face by a
football back in 20. Now look at Pete Bowl bandaged up
bleeding out. These types of
guys love this Sean Payton in the club. Full on. Tore his MCL
on the sideline and just kept
coaching. These guys live for moments that they can show
mental and physical toughness.
They’re not looking to get hurt, but if they do, they flip into
a positive and McVay will too.
Kyle it’s a great point. Those are the NFL references. Ten
years ago I was on NCAA
tournament and Georgia Southern beat Baylor. Ron Hunter and his
son RJ was playing for Georgia
Southern. Ron Hunter had torn his Achilles celebrating the
Sunbelt Conference. The head
coach. He has a cast. He coached the entire opening
round of the NCAA tournament on
a wheeled stool as he was moving around with his
whiteboard, and then his son
hits the three to beat Baylor. I think it was a 15 over two.
RJ and Ron, full blown, goes
off the scooter and cracked the cast he was wearing that he was
trying to recover from the
Achilles like coaches who take these things so seriously. And
he was so happy about it
because his team moved on. He’s like, yeah, I don’t care.
Georgia Southern we’re in the
tournament and we just beat Baylor. You guys have the
picture. Oh my gosh. That story
came off the top of my head. There he is Ron Hunter in the
back cracked. His cast was the
direct quote in The Day After. Now it’s your money. Use it
when you need it. Call J.G.
Wentworth. 877. Cash nine. It’s time for what’s the word? The
ultimate challenge for a table
so chatty. Pick a single word. First up, the Eagles have won
their first two games of the
season, but their MVP quarterback Jalen Hurts, has
yet to throw a touchdown pass.
Dum Dum dum. Following their week two victory over the
Chiefs, their head coach, Nick
Sirianni, had a message for his team about continuing to find a
way to win. Guys, we to find a
way, way to find a way, right? Take pride. Take pride in
winning. However, we need to
win and then we go back to work again. We find a way again. We
repeat again and again and
again. Right? It’s about process in a world right where
everybody wants everything
right away. It’s about our process. The only word I heard
in there was process. I start
us off your one word to describe Jalen Hurts having
zero touchdown passes in the
first two games of the season. Yeah this is my word guys. It’s
two letters. So like so he
hasn’t thrown for any touchdowns. So like the guy in
30 in his whole entire career
Jalen Hurts has not thrown a touchdown in 30% of his games
guys. Yes. So 30%. So the guy
is 16 and seven in those games. He wins. Like we’ve said on
this show. And this is a
narrative, right. And I try to change that narrative. But
people feel a certain type of
way as to this system quarterback, it’s not a bad
thing. He’s in a system that
creates a W. It don’t matter how many how many touchdowns he
throws for it matters what’s
that win column look like. And then Jalen Hurts case. It’s a
winning win column. So he could
throw for zero touchdowns ten touchdowns. All he cares about
is winning. So back to my back
to my word. So he’s going to win anyway. The process is
winning over there in
Philadelphia. It’s winning for Jalen Hurts. So that’s my word
guys. So with a question mark
want to see want to see my word. And and so and we what you know
what like honestly to use a
word the kids use like the word could have been flex. It’s a
flex I’m not even throwing
touchdowns. And we’re two and zero I mean what do you want
from me I don’t care, I don’t
need to. You know what? Philadelphia is a fight city.
I’m old enough to remember a
guy named Vladimir Klitschko. Wladimir Klitschko was a
heavyweight fighter who who
sometimes he would do fights and he would just jab people
into victory. He never even
would throw the right hand because he didn’t even need to,
because he just jabs the crap
out of them. Another word I could have put is September.
Like Earth, wind and fire. It’s
early. They’re two and oh, who cares what Jalen Hurts stats
are nerds. I don’t care about
his stats. I care about his two and zero. He hasn’t thrown a
touchdown pass and go ahead.
And somehow I feel like I’m getting shoved into the era in
which I will be parenting
teenagers. I feel like that’s so. And like. Like what? Bet
bet bet. This question is so
mid. All right, well, I guess I’ll be the one to buck the
system because it’s not. Come
on. So I’m coming with Pattulo and Pattulo Pattulo Kevin
Pattulo is offensive
coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. It is no
longer Kellen Moore. And I know
that they’re winning games. And I know that Jalen Hurts is
still going to find a way to
make it happen and extend drives, but their passing game
needs to be addressed. I don’t
believe that it’s the same that it was in years past. Kellen
Moore had those guys flying
high obviously in the run game and the passing game. When you
watch the film, these route
concepts are not the same that they were. It’s easier to guard.
They’re running more mirrored
route concepts. So I think that their offense in terms of the
passing game is more simpler
than it’s been. And I think that that is contributing to
their lack of productivity in
the passing game, and it is not hurting them in the win column
yet. You think it will, though?
I think it will. All right. So and Pattulo we move on. Next up
we’re going to check in on the
Giants fans and how we think they’re feeling after a tough
overtime loss in week two.
Because the effort was there. The excitement was there Manti.
But the win escaped them. What
is the one word to describe Giants fans two weeks into the
season? Well, I had to do some
research. I’m not from New York. I haven’t never lived in New
York, so KB probably would know
more of the lingo over there. But there’s there’s this word
that I guess they use in New
York. It’s called staticky. And it means that causes unwanted
friction or the desire to fight,
like, I think New York, the New York Giants fans, they’re ready
to fight. They’re like, why
can’t we just have something good? Why can’t we just win? I
don’t care who’s at quarterback
or whether it’s Russell Wilson or or Jaxson Dart. Let’s just
win some ball games. Get the
ball to Malik Nabers. Let’s start the running game
defensively. Like we have a
great pass rush. Like I think it’s created a lot of staticky
situations over there in New
York. So if you’re a New York fan, if you’re from New York
and you understand this word,
please let me know that that’s the correct definition, because
that’s what they say. Staticky
is unwanted friction, and there’s a lot of friction over
there in New York. All right.
Friction is never a good thing. Conflicted conflict is my word.
And the reason why is because
they have a Russell Wilson who had an okay game, I guess, and
people were kind of mad about
it in week one. And then he balled out against the Dallas
Cowboys. But people really want
to see the young gun who bought out in the preseason. So they
sprinkle him in there and they
say, oh, he didn’t really do too well either. But he’s our
he’s the next great hype.
They’re conflicted. I don’t know if they rather be winning
games or seeing their rookie go
out there and try to figure out who he is and watch him ascend
to what he was in the preseason.
So I think that the New York Giants fans right now are torn.
Do we keep Russ and allow him
to throw for 450, or do we really want to see Jaxson Dart
get in there and start and
start figuring out his way as a young rookie? I hear you. And
by the way Isaiah some friction
from time to time. Not bad. Trust me. Opportunity. That’s
mine. Opportunity opportunity
I’m going positive you know once a week opportunity. All
right here’s the opportunity.
Guys guys eyes up here. Eyes up here trying to talk football.
Let’s just take a ball Paul.
The New York Giants it’s not just they’ve had the last few
years. Most of the time they
lose. They lose a lot at home. They have a really rough
experience for the fans at home.
And I know that drives ownership crazy. You’re at home
this weekend and national TV,
it’s at night. You can bring the family. The Chiefs are
coming to town with the same
record as you. You’re you’re all oh and two, they’re
bleeding. They’re susceptible.
They’re vulnerable. This is an opportunity for like an estate
win for this season. Beat
Patrick Mahomes and Kelce and Reid and all those guys which
you can based on what I’ve seen
I don’t look at it as doom and gloom yet. I know they’re oh
and two but there’s sparks. And
last week they scored a lot of points. You beat the Chiefs and
you beat the team to send the
Chiefs to zero and three. Then that’s finally something to
hang your hat on and build from.
It’s not time to be down in the gutter. It is a time to say,
let’s cash in this. What this
opportunity. Do the great things you’re meant to do. New
York Giants. Come on, Kyle, you
were so quick to get your dirty joke out on the air that you
forgot to put an I in the
middle of your opportunity. Opportunity? Opportunity? Yes.
Oh, well, I don’t know what
your joke you’re referring to, Jamie, but I try to keep it on
football here, and you guys are
always taking it off the track. So that’s you? I was worried
about the spelling of staticky.
Like we had to get out of that segment quick. I was, I was, oh,
no guys. Oh, it’s not a
spelling bee. I’m actually a good speller. Maybe it should
be upper 20. Yeah. Oh, well. Oh,
well. Calling all fall fanatics, at 7 p.m. eastern only on prime.
The NFL way to play awards are
fueled by Gatorade. They were created to recognize and reward
players who use proper playing
technique at all levels of football, including high school.
This week’s winner, linebacker
Cooper Clark of Ridgeline High School in Millville, Utah, who
was relentless in a 3414 win
over Morgan with more. Here’s former Jets and Dolphins
quarterback and current high
school football coach in Lexington, Kentucky, Chad
Pennington. What I love about
number ten Cooper Clark here is his stance. First of all, it’s
a nice athletic linebacker
stance shoulders over knees over toes ready to make a great
football play. Then his
approach is really impressive because he’s got to take on
this blocker that’s trying to
help with the jet sweep. Cooper does a great job of taking on
this blocker inside out,
maintaining his leverage with his outside shoulder and then
finally his finish. Sometimes
it’s not always pretty, but he’s able to finish this play
with his shoestring tackle and
tackle for loss. Great job Cooper. Congratulations to you.
You are our latest NFL Way to
Play award winner. Congratulations to you Cooper.
So in honor of your terrific
way to play example, the NFL Foundation will award a $3,000
equipment grant through USA
football to the ridgeline Riverhawks. Learn more about

winner right here next week.
Plus, there’s a new milestone in American football that
established the Hispanic
Football Hall of Fame, an organization dedicated to
honoring the contributions of
Hispanic players, coaches, and contributors at every level of
the game. Former NFL head coach
in front of the show Ron Rivera in Pro Football Hall of Fame
offensive lineman Anthony Nunez
helped establish the Hispanic Football Hall of Fame, and
they’re going to serve as
founding board members. Hispanic Football Hall of Fame
will pay tribute to the history,
talent, and cultural impact of Hispanic people who shaped the
game of football that we just
love so much. Now coming up Carson Wentz. He has had quite
the NFL journey Kyle going to
take us through those steps. And only the way Kyle knows how
best. That’s coming up next
here on Gmfb. The international and streaming next day on
Paramount+. All right, the
Minnesota Vikings this weekend. Their starting quarterback will
not be the rookie J.J. McCarthy.
He is injured. It will be Carson Wentz. And with that
this is the headline Carson
Wentz becomes the first quarterback in NFL history to
start for six different teams
in six consecutive seasons. It’s insane. It’s happening.
And I have a lot of respect for
it for his resilience and his toughness. And we’re going to
look back on how in the heck
this just happened. Remember 2016. Good morning. Football
was in its very first season.
And the Eagles had drafted Carson Wentz number two overall
behind Jared Goff out of North
Dakota. The story goes Howie Roseman went to a diner in
North Dakota. They met with
Carson Wentz. They had a feeling about him. They took
him. They traded Sam Bradford
their incumbent starter right before the season said we’re
given the keys to the rookie.
The rookie was excellent. He didn’t throw any interceptions
to start the season. On good
morning football and its infancy. I started growing a
beard called the Wentz beard
and I said I wouldn’t shave until Carson Wentz throws an
interception that lasted five
weeks. When he finally threw one to Darius Slay of the
Detroit Lions. We had a
barbershop quartet and I was shaved live on the air. 2017
comes around and oh my god
Carson Wentz is so good. How good he’s the best player in
the league. He was going to win
the MVP. This is just a fact. It is not debatable. And then
he goes to the L.A. Coliseum
where the Rams are playing at the time. He tears his ACL. He
goes down. And really in a lot
of ways for the Eagles he never got back up. At the time I was
a huge supporter and I went on
Twitter and here were my thoughts on Carson Wentz
tearing his ACL in the middle
of MVP season. I’d gladly give my own ACL to keep him on the
field. What the hell am I doing
with it? Valid point. I couldn’t do it. Carson Wentz is
then done. Turns out the Eagles
go on to win the Super Bowl with a backup quarterback. They
go in Minnesota. They battle
Brady. And this is a picture worth a billion words. There is
Carson with his hands on the
trophy. He is a Super Bowl champ. But Nick Foles who took
over for him led them there.
Super Bowl MVP a very loaded image Carson would start the
next year. Foles would come
back again. It never really got right. And then that’s when it
gets crazy. The Eagles draft
Jalen Hurts in 2020. The writing was on the wall. Then
Carson goes to the Colts. He is
traded to the Indianapolis Colts. The season happened to
be on Hard Knocks. They had a
dramatic last game loss in which they missed the playoffs.
It was considered a
disappointment. 2022 The Indianapolis Colts traded
Carson Wentz to Washington
Commanders football team. Whatever they were 2022. There
he is throwing a touchdown to
Terry McLaurin. Looks like it’s going pretty well right. Well
he was placed on injured
reserve. And sure enough in 2023 he becomes a Los Angeles
Ram after being released by the
commanders. Now he’s playing for Sean McVay. He’s doing some
good things there out on the
field. But again he starts for all these teams. It’s like he’s
in his different eras. This was
his Rams era. Did he stick there. Absolutely not. He
enters free agency. And in 2024
he is signed by the Chiefs. Now he’s playing for Reid. Now he’s
playing for Mahomes. This was
last season he did start I don’t know if you remember it.
He started the last at the end
of the season. It was not pretty. But he was out there
throwing the ball around. Went
to another Super Bowl. This time he lost to not get another
ring. Enters free agency again.
And now he is signed by the Minnesota Vikings. He will
start this weekend again. This
is not just a backup who jumps from team to team and is a guy
they like to bring in because
he’s good in the locker room and experience. It’s not quite
the same as Teddy Bridgewater.
Carson Wentz has gone six straight seasons with six teams,
starting at least one game in
all those seasons. It’s never happened before. You might
remember a few years back,
there was this viral picture of Carson working out in what
appears to be a high school.
And it was really funny because look at all the gear he’s got
on Eagles and Washington and
Indianapolis. That was like three teams ago. He could put
on socks now and cleats and an
arm sleeve that has all kinds of different logos. It’s an
amazing thing. Now that Carson
Wentz is back I remember we used to call the Wentz wagon in
Philadelphia and all the
journeys that would go on. And he was considered once the
absolute future of not only the
Philadelphia Eagles but quarterbacking in the league.
It’s taken a million different
turns. But I respect Carson Wentz so much for showing up,
being a pro and just chucking
that ball. Same time next year. Different team Carson Wentz I
would bet on it. If he’s done
six he could do seven. He will show up and ball I love him
professional and we’ll see
where it goes next. Guys guys you know what’s so funny about
this thing is when I saw JJ
McCarthy throw the ball I immediately got Carson Wentz
vibes. Like I remember getting
ready for Carson Wentz when he was with the Philadelphia
Eagles. And that long little
that long little arm motion that he has and his elbow
poking out in the back. Watch
J.J. McCarthy throw this ball. It’s the same delivery. It’s
the same exact delivery. And I
remember getting ready to play the Eagles. And that being a
point of emphasis for us
defensively is understanding how they both how Carson Wentz
threw the ball. So when I saw
J.J. McCarthy throw the ball I was like oh my gosh that looks
exactly like Carson Wentz. And
then we’re in week three. And who’s starting for the
Minnesota Vikings a guy who
throws exactly like him. So it’s amazing how to see this
thing kind of kind of play out
I’m hoping success for Carson Wentz. Good guy. And I mean I
chose the Vikings to win the
NFC North. So I’m really rooting for him. Yeah he has to
take care of business Kyle a
great job on the timeline man I appreciate that. But Carson
Wentz shout out to you. People
don’t understand how hard it is to to get to the league and
then to remain in the league.
But to be on six consecutive teams and start for all those
teams as a quarterback.
Understand you have to know everything about the offense.
You have to be able to know the,
the, the, all the calls. You have to know the language. You
got to be able to communicate
and relay it, be able to change things up and to be able to do
that in six consecutive systems
is absolutely insane. So all the respect to Carson Wentz,
not only his ability to stay in
the league, but his ability to be somebody that all these
organizations know and trust in
his abilities to be able to conduct himself as a
professional and be able to be
able to run these teams offensively. Listen, we never
want any season to turn into
the year of the backup quarterback, but somehow we’re
in week three and we have a
Jake Browning Carson Wentz special coming up between the
Bengals and the Vikings. But
the Carson Wentz story and the Vikings in general have kind of
tapped into this odd like bring
them home type thing because you got Adam Thielen back in
Minnesota a native son. And
Carson Wentz has all these great stories about growing up
in the Midwest and having
Vikings posters on his wall. So maybe this is the next chapter,
the next part of his story. Now
the problem with Jake Browning is he’s got a long runway with
Joe Burrow injury. We don’t
know how long of a Carson Wentz experience we’re going to get
Kyle. But to your point and
frankly to the reference back to the beginning of your time
on Gmfb in 2016. Little birdie
because I wasn’t in the chair at the time tells me that you
were so high on Carson Wentz
that you were like best player in the NFL right now, and
that’s why you were willing to
sacrifice your own ACL. Like, how do you see this thing has
unfolded for him in terms of
why he hasn’t been able to stick on as a starter? Well, I
remember our first opening day
in 2016. I went to Philadelphia and did the show from their
complex there in Philly. They
had just traded Sam Bradford. The biggest news in the NFL was
this rookie is going to start
for the Eagles. And I’m walking through the parking lot and the
dead of night trying to get
there like four in the morning. And I look up and I go oh dude
it’s you. And it was Carson
Wentz getting out of his car carrying like 12 boxes of
donuts. Like a true rookie into
the facility. And he went on to start and be great that year.
Listen Jamie, to answer your
question, I’m an agent of chaos. I think the best thing could
possibly happen is Carson Wentz
starts the next three games and throws eight touchdowns with no
picks and three Vikings wins.
And then they’re like, what are we supposed to do? That’s what
I would like to see. So
everybody buckle up. You know it’s so hard is and Isaiah you
know this I think the backup
quarterback is one of the hardest positions in all of
football. Why. Because you have
to be ready I mean that’s not saying that the DB or the
O-lineman that the second
string has to be ready. But there’s a there’s a different
type of pressure that’s on the
second string quarterback. Like when the first string guy goes
down, which happens sometimes.
And for us, this year happened sooner than than we expected it
to be. You have to be ready
because the whole success of the franchise is now on you.
It’s different for me than a
linebacker. As a second stringer. I’ve been in that
situation where I was told that,
hey, just be ready. You’re going to go in. You just got
when I got in, I had like ten
other guys that could help me be successful. When you’re the
quarterback and you have the
ball in your hands, guys, there is there’s a different type of
pressure on that quarterback,
let alone the second string quarterback. When you don’t
know when your your, your name
is going to be called. So you have to do the same amount of
study that the starter does,
maybe even more because you’re not getting the reps. So shout
out to Carson Wentz. Shout out
to Jake Browning. Shout out to all the second string
quarterbacks. That has to be
ready. Now that’s that’s that’s all I wanted to share some
perspective. Yeah I just for
put it in perspective for people. How many people out
there have a language learning
app, right. A Duolingo or Rosetta Stone, a Babbel,
whatever it is. Right. Imagine
doing that for six different languages. Like that’s legit
what he’s doing. Like when you
step in there, they give you a giant binder and it has all the
information on it, and you have
to digest that information and have enough confidence in it to
be able to go down, relay that
information out to ten other grown men at a time like that
is so difficult to do. And I
just alluded to it like it’s different. That’s not to say
that all professional football
players aren’t prepared, but there is a different
responsibility and we all know
that, which is why the quarterbacks get paid what they
get paid. Kyle, I am going to
go to Dublin a week from yesterday. I’ll be there for
the Vikings Steelers game. And
as we all know, for the first time ever in the NFL, the
Vikings will then stay in
Europe and go from Ireland and play a second game in London.
And one of the entertaining
parts of those games internationally are seeing all
the different jerseys
represented. I will take it upon myself to be at that game
in Dublin and try to count as
many versions of the Carson Wentz experience that I can,
and see how many if I can
collect them all. I love it because I remember in 2018,
Carson Wentz started a game for
the Eagles in London against the Jaguars. So he has been
there at least once. They are
very aware of Carson Wentz. And guys let’s just do the same
thing next year Jamie safe
travels. We’ll send you off properly next week. But in the
meantime guys Jets fans
shouting out to you your own two Justin Fields may not start
but do you want something to be
happy about? I got something very next segment about the
Jets tonight that you could
watch that you will like. It’s Wednesday Night Football more
good morning football after
this. Back pain. When you’ve supportive adult education
centers near you.
Congratulations. See you in Pittsburgh. Can’t wait. Talk
that talk man to man. What do
you think? It. Carry it. Talk that talk. That’s what men do
right there, man. That’s that’s
big man talk right there. That’s not a boy. That’s a man
right there speaking his truth.
I loved it. It was passionate. And Bart always been the kind
of guy that, you know, you
would want him to lead you in the battle because, you know,
he going to fight right
alongside with you to the end. All right? That’s something
that really happened. That
fever dream you were just looking at is a television show.
I refer to it as Wednesday
Night Football. It’s NFL classics. After further review,
every Wednesday, 9:00 eastern
on vice, we watch a different classic game with prominent
members of the game where
people who watched it. Tonight we’re watching the Can’t Wait
game. This is the Patriots.
This is the Jets. This is Bart Scott. This is Method Man. So
many things to talk about in
this game guys. This is not it of course. But that’s all right.
We’ll talk about that in
another game. It’s Patriots versus Jets is what we really
want. But it is the Rex Ryan
team from back then. It’s Mark Sanchez. It’s Rex Ryan. It’s
going into the game is a
totally bizarre storyline about Wes Welker talking about Rex
Ryan’s potential video that was
out there. It’s rookie Gronk. It’s rookie Devin McCourty. And
it is Mark Sanchez going on the
road and winning playoff games against all time greats. You do
not want to miss it. Vice TV
tonight I promise it is the Jets versus the Patriots. And
it is 9:00. It is so fun.
You’ll love it. I got a question brother. That’s two
weeks in a row. You have one
side of the story there. Last week you had the Chiefs and and
the Niners. And you only had
Chiefs people there. This time you just have Jets. Do you have
episodes coming where there’s
representatives of both teams on there, or is that something
you don’t want to do you want
to stay away from? I want to open the wound for sure.
Absolutely. It’s not exactly a
great hang for the team that got their butts kicked in the
game. It’s more of a
celebration. But listen, we had to do a lot of editing with
Method Man because Method Man
has a very sharp tongue about the Patriots. He said a lot of
stuff that could not be in the
final cut, but he was an awesome hang. I know football
fans will love it. And shout
out to Sal Powell, one of those rare interviews where you got
to hang that mic in there. We
were like, anything else you want to say? And you’re like,
nope, just can’t wait. You’re
like, wow, ultimate television moment. And now Kyle’s got it
on Wednesday Night Football.
Well done. Kyle Gmfb on a Wednesday. See you tomorrow.
Wait wait wait. Ooh, team. Tell
me something good. Cheerios is

  1. The Chiefs defense is literally going nowhere and they're still shorthanded with their offensive linemen
but they're not playing good at all

  2. New Jerseyan here.
Thank you for pointing out Kevin Burkhardt is a great play by play announcer. He is also one of the best.
FYI – He is a graduate of my alma mater, William Paterson University, located in Wayne, New Jersey, about 20 miles northwest of New York City/Manhattan. 😀👍

  3. It was Georgia State, not Georgia Southern @1:00:00. I remember this moment especially because that's my alma mater. Also, you can see the signage in the photos that they present.

  4. Chiefs get, No more 4 extra chances to get a first down. Refs can always turn it on. The league is 3 and out. Chiefs are 12 and out. "Champions"

  5. Y'all talking about movies!!?? I thought this was Good Morning FOOTBALL!!!!🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈

  6. First of all, pretty smart move to provide us with a clean version of GMFB, via YT. And without subscription. Secondly, love the lack of commercials. Thank you NFL! Greetings from Europe.

  7. Brady don't need extra info to be a analyst he is that good. Brady beat teams all the time without being in there facilitys all the time as a player.

  8. Fun Fact…the Eagles traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings, the same team that Wentz will be starting for this Sunday.

  9. 13:04 EVERYBODY HATES THE CHIEFS BECAUSE THE REFS CHEAT FOR THEM, MAHOMES CRIES LIKE A BABY WHEN THEY DONT, NOT TAYLOR SWIFT

  10. As if the Eagles were never the most hated team in the NFL. People hate the Eagles for no reason. There are people who make hating the Eagles their entire personality
