Anticipation is building for the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York.

Team Europe are looking to retain the trophy and become the first side to win away from home since their “miracle” comeback at Medinah in 2012. 

Team USA, led by Keegan Bradley, are the heavy favourites with a stacked team that includes the top-ranked Scottie Scheffler. 

All the action gets underway on 26 September.

We are, of course, referring to Tiger Woods.

No, Tiger Woods is not playing. The multiple major champion ruptured his left Achilles in March as he was preparing for the 2025 Masters. 

The injury forced Woods to miss all of the major championships and he has not announced if or when he will return to action.

Woods was spotted swinging again recently during a golf clinic, sparking speculation he will at the very least play in December at the parent/child PGA Tour event with his teenage son Charlie. 

Is he going to be at Bethpage Black?

Woods is not expected to be at Bethpage Black. 

US president Donald Trump is among the high-profile notables that will be in attendance. 

NBA legend Michael Jordan is also more than likely to be inside the ropes supporting Team USA.

What is Tiger Woods’ role with Team USA?

Captain Bradley said he consulted the 15-time major champion as he weighed up whether to take on a playing role at Bethpage Black.

Bradley eventually decided against picking himself and he revealed Woods is always consulted with decisions. 

A source told GOLF that Woods is being used as an “informal advisor or Dutch uncle”.

Woods has played in eight Ryder Cups with an overall record of 13-21-3. 

In the singles, Woods is 4-2-2.

No, he has never been captain.

Woods led the United States team to victory at the 2019 Presidents Cup. 

He was a playing captain and won all three of his matches as Team USA beat the International side 16-14. 

Woods was asked to be the captain for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, but he turned the role down.

Woods cited his role on the PGA Tour’s policy board as the primary reason for not wanting to be the Ryder Cup captain at Bethpage Black.

It seems almost certain Woods will be the United States Ryder Cup captain when the matches head to Adare Manor in Ireland in 2027.
