Matt Wallace was left in tears live on Sky Sports after his RDER Cup dream suffered a crushing setback. The Englishman entered the European Masters in Switzerland, knowing that only a strong title defense would keep his hopes alive of earning one of Luke Donald’s six captain’s picks for next month’s showdown at Beth Page. But despite a determined effort, the 35-year-old could manage only a share of second place. a result that according to the Telegraph James Corgan is unlikely to be enough to secure him a Ryder Cup debut. Wallace, who was controversially snubbed by Thomas Bejorn for the 2018 team, struggled to contain his emotions after signing his card. Fighting back tears, the five-time DP World Tour winner told Sky Sports, “I never give up on the RDER Cup. I just won’t.” Meanwhile, fellow Englishman Marco Ping also made a late push for selection. Fresh off his breakthrough win in Denmark, Ping added the Swiss event to his schedule to catch Donald’s eye and finish tied for eighth. After winning in Denmark, I knew I had to come here and either win again or at least be right in the mix. Ping explained. That’s why I played. I wasn’t originally meant to, but with a sixth last week and an eighth this week, I feel like I’ve done as much as I can. Maybe I’ve left it too late, but just being in the RDER Cup conversation is huge for me. At the start of the year, I wasn’t even close. If I miss out, I’ll have only just missed out, and that gave me a lot of confidence moving forward. Donald will confirm his six Ryder Cup wild cards live on Sky Sports Golf tomorrow, Monday, September 1st, at 2
