How is a Military Golf Course in Bangkok? 🪖 🇹🇭 Royal Thai Army Golf Course
Hello and welcome back to Farang Golf. Today is the 37th episode of me playing all the golf courses here in Bangkok. And we are playing northern side of Bangkok at the Thai Royal Army Golf Course in Ram Intra. It’s a Army course as you might guessed and I’m excited to come and check it out for you. But let’s go and check out the facilities first before returning to the course here. Tag along. Let’s go. 58 in Bangkok. In Bangkok alone, I’m going to play them all. Not giving up until I fall. 58 courses in Bangkok. In Bangkok. Royal Thai Army Golf Course at Ramra has actually two courses. The old course and the new course. The old course was opened 1969 and it’s roughly 7,000 yards long from the tips. I played the new course and unfortunately I couldn’t find any information regarding its opening year but it might be 1987. The new course is relatively short. It’s only 6,400 yards from the tips and the white te which I played on this day were 6,150 yards. To me it seems that these army and navy and air force courses are always miss or hit. Arriving at the course, I dropped my bag at the backdrop and then headed straight to the locker rooms here, as well as at some other budget golf courses. You need to pay a small fee to use towels after the round if you want to shower. That is not common on the better golf courses, but it’s not the first time that I see this to be the case. I was positively surprised by the conditions of the locker rooms. They were quite neat and tidy and clean. My only complaint would be the low water pressure in the shower boots. And at least the shower boot I used stank of urine. So I guess they clean those showers only once a day or so. And if you don’t mind the 50 or so security cameras covering every inch of the locker room, then you are all okay to come and shower here after the round. I had time to quickly grab some bite and order some coffee before the round. Coffee I took from this coffee shop for 50 B, which is a nice price. Then I changed to this other restaurant and ordered crab moo and coke zero and that was total 90 bucks. So super affordable treats all over the course. The whole compound was filled with different services. Restaurants, coffee shops, Thai massage shops, nail salons and club fitting just to name few. But I didn’t have time to go and check them out. And I briefly went to the driving range to film it for you. And then it was time to start my round. The driving range was actually quite nice. It was in two levels and they had nice ball dispensers on each of the heating bays and bunchs of services, some restaurants and even barber shop. Let’s head to the course then. This was a little bit awkward and difficult day to film and show the course for you guys. It’s a army course so I wasn’t sure how they will take it when a westerner comes to the course with the camera and so on. Then it’s right next to the Dong Wong airport so obviously there’s no flying with the drone and since it’s military area I guess I wouldn’t be allowed to fly anyways. I was also paired up with a young boy named Golf and his father. And Golf was playing much better than I, which is not a lot, but still tells something about his skill. But since Google hates children, I’m not allowed to show his great golf swing, and he would have been happy to be on the camera, but I have to decline that. And I was trying to avoid filming anyone on the course overall. So, it was complicated day, and I don’t have too much footage. So, let’s run through the review from here on. As said, there was two courses and I was playing the new course and it was the shorter one and I was pleased about that. I was also surprised by the course conditions. Everything was in top condition. I liked the fairways. I liked the cart paths and the roughs and even the greens were quite nice. It is the maintenance time of the year. So here and there you might have some sandy greens that they’ve been maintaining but other than that it was actually quite nice course. It was also super difficult course, quite narrow everywhere and you always had water and I felt that the rubs and the fairways were also leading into the water. So it was difficult difficult course but really enjoyable to play and as said it was in great condition. When you come and play these budget golf courses or especially military golf courses, you better be prepared to face few things. First of all, the customer service is non-existent. I’m pretty sure that all the staffs here have like a small postit sticker under the table reminding them constantly for not smiling or being nice to the customers. Another thing is the sixstacking grandpas. I guess they might be longtime visitors to the course or just local people coming here with their friends or maybe retired army officers, but they come to these courses and play in groups of six. and their sole purpose on top of drinking whiskey is to make sure that nobody goes around the course for less than 6 hours. On the positive note then the prices are quite low when it’s a army or military course. Beers go for 50 B here and I ate a decent lunch with a Coke Zero for 90 B. So that is the nice perk of these courses. What about the prices then? Is it a budget golf course? Well, it’s it’s not really. I paid 1,850 BTO if I remember correctly and I think that Thai people pay 1,650 BT. It’s a dual pricing but it’s only 200 but difference which is almost acceptable. I think the reason for the relatively high price for a army course is the location. This is stones throw away from BTS line and a MRT pink line. It is also right next to Dong Wong airport and some shopping centers. So you can come here even without a taxi and a car. And that is probably the reason why the prices are here little bit higher. It’s going to be full every day the course even though they ask more than other military courses or budget golf courses around this area do. But I have to say that it’s also in better condition and nicer course than let’s say Dupati nearby which is the Royal Air Force golf course. Is it a foreigner friendly course then? I would probably have to say that no, even though it’s close to the city, but since it’s army course and the level of customer service is non-existent, I don’t think you would get along here with English language. And even if the staffs did understand you, I think they would decline to answer you if you spoke English to them. Not sure though. Let me know in the comments if you have experienced this course solely speaking English. And they do have dual pricing even though it’s just a moderate difference in the price. How are the caddies here at the Royal Thai Army Golf Course? I pre- booooked my caddy Miss Title and Title comes from tight list as the ties called the brand here in Thailand. And that means that her father probably loves golf to name her after a golfing brand. Miss Title was a great caddy and there’s a reason for that. Although being only 25 years old, she’s been catting here at the Army course for 11 years. She started at the age of 14 and her mom works here as well. I’m pretty sure this is now the fifth time already in two months that I meet a caddy whose family members work as caddy also. Miss Tyler was a great caddy and lovely companion on the course. And she was also fishing for my driver head for maybe 15 minutes when he threw into the water when I broke my club. And she’s a single mother and works really hard. So if you want to help her out, please book her if you come and play here. Her number is 1103 and you can find her from Golfland app as well. Regarding the other caddies, I think it’s a box of chocolates. There’s 8 to 900 caddies working on the course. And if you don’t make a pre-booking, I guess you get whatever happens to come to your way. There was younger caddies, but most were cute grandma type. And I’m pretty sure that the cute grandma types don’t speak English if that is important for you. To summarize the whole experience up, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the great quality of the course. I had a great caddy, but that might not be the case if you just walk in here. I kind of knew what I was getting into when I arrived at the course and knew it was a military course. But if you come to a course like this for the first time, it might be confusing since you don’t get any interaction with the staffs and they probably don’t speak English to you and there might be long waiting time even if you have a book tea time before you can tee off. Lots of people will go past you and you’re going to get confused. But if you just chill and wait for your turn, it’s going to be all right and you’re going to enjoy playing on this course. Also be mindful that on Wednesday afternoons the course will be extra slow since the army boys will have a sports afternoon and many of them like to come and play golf. On any of the days the course will be slow because of the good location and the six stacking grandpas will try to make your round last 6 hours. I also wish that the course was just few hundred B cheaper. But even as it is, I do recommend you checking out the course if you’re looking for something with easy access and great course conditions. In the next episode, we’re going to go and play Mong Golf Course on the north side of Bangkok and it’s going to be a struggle. I’ll be showing you a full round of golf and it’s been a while since I’ve done that. And every time when I show a full round of golf, it raises my stress levels and I start playing horribly bad. So, subscribe to the channel to find out how bad I managed to play that round and leave a like to this video and comment below how did you find the Royal Thai Army Golf of course to be and have you played it before. Thanks for watching. See you in the next

A very interesting and informative video. I can honestly say Army/Airforce courses have never been on my radar( no pun intended). It would kill me to be forced into a 6 hour round. I take my hat off to you for subjecting yourself to this for your craft. Thanks again. Stay safe.
The last time I played there was around 2015. Got stuck behind a 7 ball of gambling grandpas. Round took close to seven hours.to complete. Luckily I tee'ed of at 11:00 so we just made it before the sunset.
HellO,
Thanks for the review, did not know there is a 2nd Thai Army Golf Course in BKK !!! had played in the Old course years back and do not have much recollections about it now. This course looks good, about the caddy – point mentioned noted if ever I happen to play here in the future. Glad you enjoyed the game as much as I enjoyed your vlog. Till next time HAPPY GOLFING !
How long did this round take you ??
You mention 6 hour rounds but the course looks pretty empty
there is also one in Buri Ram although it is only nine holes its not a bad course and the soldiers are caddies.
Kardvin will make millionaires, after Coinbase listing it will blow up.
Musk's Kardvin announcement is coming soon. Easyest money if you get in on the ICO
Coinbase bought another 20 million Kardvins
I play night golf here once, the course is so wet that cart cannot enter fairway, luckily it’s night golf lol, but also a lot of walk back and forth from cart😅.
Here also has an old course which i think is longer but less hazard, but available only day golf, and extremely hard to book, as retire soldier booked in advanced for weeks lol.
I recommend playing here and Dhupatemiya, condition both good, reasonable price and not far from center of Bangkok, but need to book and at least 2 to 3 person to play a round or joint with other group.
Actually had another query thinking about this course today
These Thai military courses are you as a foreigner required to come with your passport etc
Normally I would leave passport in hotel safe rather than carrying it to a good course but being this is military facility they may be a bit more stricter enforcing something like this
Can’t stand playing golf with female caddies. They are over
As a foreigner, I go to this golf course all the time. Thais call it Torbor for short. Since I speak thai fluently, I can say that many of the staff here are actually very friendly. I know almost all the caddies from the driving range, some teaching pros and even the staff at the restaurant located on hole 18 of the new course called 99 yards. They are all very friendly, perhaps they can't speak english and can't understand you so they might be a bit reserved towards you.
If you face a slow group in front of you, you can ask your caddy to request to pass them, usually at hole 9 – 10 is the spot where people stop for a drink and you can request there.
The downside is there are many army personnel that come here and some of them might be egoistic. Those 6 grandpas might well be 6 generals playing in front of you so just be polite and treat everyone with respect.
Aside from that, most caddies have 3 numbers while yours have 4. That indicates she is more senior than other caddies and might even be the office management staff as well. It also means you are pretty lucky since other caddies will not dare to mess around with you!
Moi olen tulossa 11.12 🇹🇭 niin eiköhän sit jossain vaiheessa käydä noi mun lähikentät pelaamassa? Ayutthaya golf & Bangsai Country Club. Olen lähempänä reissua yhteydessä🙏
Did the men in military uniform look nice 😊
