Good evening everyone and welcome to the Sumo Summary Show for day seven. It’s a lot of S’s. If you hear in the audio some very loud thunder. It literally just started a thunderstorm in my area of Japan a few minutes ago. And just as I was about to hit start, like a loud clap of thunder happened. So, I’m I’m It could happen again. Don’t be alarmed. Uh we’ll see. We’ll see how we go here in the next 20 minutes or so. All right. So, let’s jump into what happened today in Sumo on day seven. This, of course, for Saturday, September 20th, and had very full coverage because obviously it’s the weekend over on Patreon. So, let’s get to Sharon. I hope you’re having a good weekend so far. Pretty good day of sumo. So, let’s talk about who won and who lost today. Look, look forward to who’s going to fight each other on day eight. Nakabi, the middle Sunday of the 15-day tournament, uh, etc. Okay, I did want to just mention this really quick that Tati, you know, who always do really good coverage, um, you should have tati.org um, bookmarked. They mentioned the retirement of Mtoru and it was officially announced today and he had his press conference. He has been in the top division before. He’s currently at Makusha 7 and not doing too well healthwise. So, he announced his retirement. It says he will not become an O Yakata. So, he’s going to retire from sumo and leave the sumo life. Uh I believe he’s 31, 32, something like that. Uh, but they always have this link for these NHK videos and um they’re very easy to look at, but everything is in Japanese. You might be able to Google translate the page, but I mean this is obviously Sh-ishi, okay, versus Nishkigi and so on down the page. So, if I mention a really good match and I, you know, you want to see it and it’s not on my Patreon or you can’t find it elsewhere, you might want to come here. Now, I know that, um, this was a fantastic match today between Roga and uh, Fujinoa, for instance. Now, that’s on my Patreon. Um, I was able to take the get that match, but the the throw by Fujinoa spoilers. This this whole program is always spoilers was amazing and um will probably be the thumbnail the the uh kimonate uh little picture that I have will probably be the thumbnail of this video. Uh so this is available. Uh some people are telling me that it gets blocked or they’re blocking Jurio but not Makuchi or you know various troubles with this site. So just be aware that if you go to tachi.org or you can get this link. It’s they’ve always post it, but perhaps it won’t work for you depending where you live. Okay, let me just see here really quick. If I click on English, what happens? Ah, look at that. Okay, and so you do get uh some now here they call Shishi Yokaz. No, no, no. Here’s Shishi Nishiki Shaani. But there is no wrestler named Yokaz. There’s Tommo Kaz. Whoa. Did you Can you hear it? I don’t know if my microphone’s picking that up. And like these names are way off. So, just be aware. You know, the translation isn’t perfect, but it tries. So, there you go. Okay. All right. Matches and topics. So, absent Rickshi again. Nobody in the top. Now, we did have a potential injury that I’ll get to in a moment with Hakuo. So, I’m going to check this tomorrow, see if he’s there for day eight. Hoping he’s not. I’m hoping it was just a temporary strain or bruise, but uh we’ll we’ll talk about it in a little bit. And down in the lower divisions, but we’ve had really good luck so far, knockwood, that uh no guys since day one, Wow, the rain’s really coming down now, too. Uh have pulled out of the tournament. Okay. So, let’s look at who fought today. Let’s start down in Jurio. And I will increase the size of this. Oh, it’s already at 125. I think that’s pretty good. It must have remembered from last night. Okay, so Nishinoaru, who’s fast becoming one of my favorite Rickshi in the top two divisions. I had a really good match against Asahakuru today and it went to a uh Monoi and then they did a Tori Naoshi a rematch and Asahakuru just had a little bit more stamina and a little bit more left in the tank and he was able to get the win and he was in the one loss group so it was a big win for him but Nishino man he gave him a fierce fight in the first match and it was really close at the edge. Uh but uh yeah, I’m really looking forward. I really hope he gets his Kachikoshi and he uh is able to stay in Jurio. Uh Asahaku stablemate Assasuru not so lucky today. He lost to Kaz Keno. Sheen beat Myan Nokaz who’s destined to be demoted with a 1 and six at this point. Although you know you still could get his Kachikoshi. Asyama. This match is on my channel. He went six and one by beating Haku Hakuozan. Then I kept it going for this match because Kotokuzan, and that’s how you say it. I’ve learned that it’s not Kotokuzan, it’s Kottokuzan. I’m trying. Uh he was undefeated going into today. He was one of the two guys on the leaderboard at the top, but he lost to Kyoku Caillou. And so he is um now six and one same as Atuyama. And we’ll look at the leaders in a minute. Um and he went to three and four. Okay. Sudisho got his first win. He’s now 1 and six. Nishki Fuji 5-2 doing well. Kotojo is just struggling mightily. Only one win so far. He lost today to Fuji Seyun. Tochi Taiikai beat Oomi to give him a second loss. And Mita, this is on my channel. Mita um went to 7-0. He was the other man undefeated going into today and he remains. So he got a good win over Da Eison Ataki Comey in the final match of the Jurio division today and he is 7-0 now all alone on top of the leaderboard and he will almost for sure be up in the Makuchi division um in November unless the wheels just really come off the the cart. Uh but I can’t imagine that he will get less than 10 wins and at J4 with some of the guys above him not doing so well like J2 Kotojo and J2 Chio at three and four you know three and four here from the other J1 you know he’s easily going to get promoted uh and and obviously could very well win the Jurio championship as he did in July. Okay, on to the Makuchi the top division. Here we go. The action for day seven. Shishi started it off with a win over Nishkigi who is now zero and seven. One loss away from a losing record. Uh inevitable at this point it feels like. Tommoaz fell out of the one loss group because he lost to Shaani today. Tobizaru advanced to 5-2 by beating Kagayyaki. Hitoshi the rookie uh got another win. Uh he needs him for sure at M17. He’s now three and four. He beat Asaakoru who looking like he might be going down to Jurio. He just hasn’t been fighting uh well enough. Maybe there’s an injury there. Ryuden 5-2 now by beating Satani. Toki Hayate got a win off Chirani, taking him out of the one loss group. Dasio got just his second win of the tournament. People are telling me that he hurt his leg or his knee uh in the off season and he uh is fighting kind of on one leg as it were. So that’s the reason he’s not doing well this tournament. He did beat me though today. Then this amazing match Fujinoa beating Roga by Kake Nag. And you’ll see the thumbnail on the you know the uh what was it? Get my phone real quick. Uh here I’ll I’ll stop share for a second so you can uh I’ll I’ll put it up here on the on the screen. Okay, I saved it. Uh here we go. Hooking inner thigh throw kake nag. So yeah, it was pretty awesome. Uh and it was it was not a quick match either. So, uh, good for the rookie. I I keep calling him a rookie, but he he went to three and four with that R win. Bro was at 4-2, now 4 and three. And that match is on the channel. Uh, Fujino was on my team, so I kind of keep an eye on him. Shoddai 6-1 and uh on still on the leaderboard in the one loss group. Sorry, my brain clipped there. Uh, beating Madori Fuji today. Kim Boszan got his second win of the tournament by beating Matakeumi. Onokatu now 4-3, beating Oshoma. Ura, just having a great tournament for Ura. Uh, 6-1. Another win today. He beat Ichiamamoto. Kuseno got just his third win of the tournament, but you know, staying alive by beating Coto Sho, who’s now officially kind of, you know, looking like it was a fluke when he won that one tournament and uh will not be going up the Bonske most likely in November unless he can really turn things around. Uh Takenosho went to six and one. He’s in that one loss group by beating Wakamoto Haru. Both men entered that match in the one loss group. Atami Fuji got beat veteran Tamawashi. Uh Takiyasu and Abby fought and they both had zero wins going into the match. Zero and six records. Takiyasu got the win. So he’s now 1-6. Abby one away from a losing record at 0 and seven. Hakuo was able to beat Kushima who’s now lost three in a row after starting 4-0. He’s now 4-3. So, uh, it’s really disappointing. A Nishki the Komasubi beat Seekwake Wakataki Kag. This was a good matchup and Aishki got the win. A good match. It’s on the channel, of course. So, Aishki now five and two. Wakataki Kag still very much alive for his Ozaki hopes, but he can only really lose one more. And that uh, you know, is a good test for him, I think, because he’s got seven days left to go. So no, eight days left to go and he’s got to win seven of those eight. Uh so I feel like, you know, if you’re going to be if you want to be an Ozaki, you got to challenge yourself, right? And that is a great challenge because he knows he’s going to have to fight both Yokozuna. He’s going to have to fight the Ozaki. So right there are three really hard matches and he’s got to win two out of those three. Um he can lose one of them, but he can’t lose two of them. and uh and he he should be winning over these top tier opponents if he wants to be an Ozaki in my opinion. So uh he set himself up a challenge here in the second week, but we’ll see if he rises to the occasion. Oho. And what I would think would be a surprise win at M2 and his record two and four going into this match, beating the Ozeki, who had looked pretty good. um didn’t look good today and uh he he had some chances to beat Ohho in this match and just didn’t capitalize and he is now five and two out of the one loss leader group. Hosu staying undefeated, looking very good. Strong Skuag win over Hiad Umei and Onosato just schooling Gonoyama. It’s like one shove from Gonoyama and then Onosato’s like, “Yep, that’s it. That’s all you got. Okay, bye.” And then he just pummeled him out of the ring. So Oshihi win for the Yokozuna to go to six and one. Okay, so let’s look at our leaderboards. and Hosou, our sole leader, 7-0 and this is the best start of his career in the top division. Uh he’s never gone seven undefeated days from day one. Um so yeah, he’s just really having a good tournament. People are even whispering on the chat board over on Patreon that it might be Zen Show. Uh that’s a little premature, but it, you know, it’s possible. Uh, and he should probably get his kachukoshi tomorrow because he’s fighting Gonoyama tomorrow. That I do know already. Um, and uh, so he should, you know, easily get his kachukoshi and go to 8 and 0. And the only wrestler who can do that tomorrow on day eight because most of the other people uh, following him are at least one behind. Here’s Onosato, Takosho, Ura, and Shodai is the group now still uh hunting uh one off the pace and then a whole bunch of guys two off the pace. So, yep, those are the leaders. And then Jurio, we have Mita all alone in a kind of a shadow of what’s going on in the top division. And then three guys went off the pace, Kotokuzan, Asahakuru, and Asinoyama. And I would I can’t wait for the Asinoyama meeta matchup. That’s going to be pretty epic. And I hope that it’s uh I hope they save it for next weekend because if it’s during the week, it’s harder for me to get it up on the channel. Uh unless it’s on Tuesday the 23rd, because that’s a national holiday in Japan. Um so it’d be fun if they did it that day. And if not, I hope they save it for Saturday or Sunday. Okay. And then on down into the divisions. Let’s look really quick at if Enho I think Enho fought today. So, as always, this is the weird way I go to find Enho. I go to Hakuoho. I go to Isahama. And then I go down and find Enho. And then we look. Oh, he lost. So, he’s two and two. He’s got three matches left and he has to win two of his final three matches to get his Kachikoshi. But he’s obviously not going to go very far up the Bonds K unless he finishes with three wins in a row and finishes five and two. That’ll help him go a little bit further up the Makusha Bonske K in November. And I will try if he’s fighting on the day I go in November to see live sumo, I’ll try to get some footage of him live from the Fukuoka Pokai Center. All right. Uh so before we look at day eight, let’s go over to the Patreon page. Here is the collection for days 6 through 10. And uh pretty full coverage today. So I started in Juria with a double header. This is the Asenoyama match and like I said the followup. This is the two final matches of the day including the Mita match. There he is in the green mita. So if you want to see that then the Roga Fujinoa match is again part of a double header. Great great throw from Fujinoa Ura here. Uh and then all the you know the high ranked guys Takiyasu Kirishima Hakuoho Aishki Koto Koto Zakura sorry Hosu and Onosato. And I put up highlights this morning for all of day six that wasn’t already up on the channel. So, very full coverage today. Only a dollar a month if you decide you want to join us over on Patreon. And I’ve been playing around with some new microphones over there. And people seem to think that, you know, it’s mixed and I’m trying to improve the sound a little bit because I use an old iPad to do the filming. And uh, you know, we’ll get there. Um, it’s it’s a it’s a evolving uh concept. Okay. So, we should really quick, let me stop my share and um I should be able to uh show you the where is it? The standings page. Yay. It’s finally ready to go. We got it all figured out. Sumo DB, which is where he scrapes the data from, had changed their something. And so, oops, wrong one. And so, it was not updating properly, but he but Mike fixed it. Okay, so that’s up there. And I can go back to that. [Music] All right. So, here’s the standings after seven days. Brutus, who I think has won before, I know he’s been in the top three before because I’m pretty sure I’ve sent him a prize before, is all alone at 33 points. He has Onosato, Aishki, Wakamoto, Ura, Shodai, and Toby Zadu. Great team. Everybody five wins or more on that team, giving him 33 points. Then we have a four-way tie for second. Uh, Mr. Fishy. I think these are his fishy eyes. Vegan Sumo, Choji, and Ramy Panda. So, 32 points. One has Hosou. Uh, but uh, most people still have Onosato. But look, Koto Zakura is even making an appearance. If Katie had picked Hosu, she would be tied for first right now. But she’s like, “Hey, I’m a Koto Zakura fan. Good for you, Katie.” And uh uh she is tied in the third place group. There’s four people. I Buffalo Flower Moon. I don’t even know what to what this is. Katie Joy, Brother Bed, and Norseman. Some of these names I’m I’m I’m Norseman. Brother Bed. I remember some of these. So these guys are people that make good predictions quite often in their teams. Okay. And then you can see we have 10 people for fourth place. And let’s uh Mike was nice enough to give me a little shading in my thing there so he can find me easier. There I am uh at the start of the eighth place group. So 78 of you have picked better than me so far. And there’s my team with 26 points. Onosato, Aishki, Hakuo, Kuseno, Fujinoa, and Tobaru. I think I did pretty good today. I think I got a lot of wins today to help me go up the uh because I think I was around 10th place when I checked yesterday. So, I think I went up a couple rungs. Um, did all my guys get a win today? Hold on. I I got to check now. Okay. Toby Zaru, yes, he got a win. Uh, Fujinoa got a win. Kuseno won, right? Did Kuseno win? Yes, he did. Whoa. Sorry, there’s a bug. Uh, okay. Uh, Hakuoho, Aishki, and Onosato. I know. A Nishki and Onosato won. And yeah. Wow. Okay. Hey, six for six today in my team. So, that’s that’s pretty awesome. That’s pretty unusual. So, great. Go team. And that that that that definitely propelled me up cuz I think there’s about 200 of you ahead of me the last time I checked and now there’s only 78 of you. So, yep. Check out where you are and you can go all the way down and see who’s at way at the bottom and uh uh that link will be down in the description box. Okay. All right. So, let’s look at day eight tomorrow. for Jurio first. All right, what do we have? Nishi Nou, my dude, taking on Takaraf Fuji to start off the day. Asyama has Shirokuma, the white bear. Oo, they put Asahakuru against Kotokuzan. Uh, six in one versus six and one here. About five, six matches in. So, if I tape the Jurio tomorrow, I’ll get this match. I don’t know that I’ll get the Asanoyama match. It often comes on. The NHK doesn’t start their coverage until 3 p.m. Sometimes it’s even 3:05 because they take a news break and so I often miss the first three or four Jurio matches and Asenoyama is number three. I bet you it won’t be part of it. But anyway, um I can tape it and at least see this match hopefully and of course the later matches that we’re going to talk about. God, this bug is like flying right in my field of vision. Sorry guys. Uh, Fuji Seun taking on Da Eison. And then the big match here at the end of the day, Mita 7-0 taking on Jurio1. Oomi 5-2. So that um, you know, I I don’t think I’m going to have any coverage tomorrow, but I I want to just as a fan, I want to watch that match. Okay. And then jumping up to the top division, Tomaz Ryuda. Oh, very good matchup here. Both men five and two. Nishkigi still looking for his first win. Asakoru against Tochi Taiikai. What else we got? Toby Zadaru taking on Roga. Ura 6 in1 taking on Shoddai 6 and1. That’s a fun matchup right there for day eight. Another six in one man. Takensho taking on Chiranoui. Uh Kuseno has Fujinoa. Kind of a battle of the brand new guys. Uh two and five Kim Boszan. Two and five. Ichi Yamamoto. Ouch. Hakuo taking on Koto Shojo. Abby still looking for his first win taking on Oho. Tamawashi the Iron Eagle taking on the Komasubi. A Nishki who’s 5 and two. That’s a fun matchup. Then Wakataki Kagi Atami Fuji Wakamoto Haru Kirishima Koto Zakura Taki Yasu. Normally, I’d be excited about that match, but Takiyasu has been struggling. Onosato, Hirodumi, and Gonoyama once again in the Musumi Noich tomorrow has a chance to get a Kimoshi and a whole lot of white envelopes. But boy, he got blown away today. But he has another chance against Hosuru tomorrow. What are the odds that Hosu lets him beat him and doesn’t get his uh go to eight and0? Yeah, I I think that’s pretty much a foregone conclusion. All right, so some fun matchups there on day eight. Uh did we look at Yeah, we looked at all that. Okay, I think that’ll do it, guys. Um so, really quick then, I think I mentioned it last night. I’ll mention it again today. So, tomorrow I’m taking a school trip and it’s going to take up almost all my day. I have to leave uh my house tomorrow morning at like 6:30 a.m. to go pick up the students and the other teacher at 7:00 a.m. and then get on the road and and drive for a couple hours, do the event, have dinner, drive back, and I just don’t think I’m going to have any coverage. But Monday morning, if if it if it works out like that, I’ll probably put up highlights. So, if you’re a Patreon member and you don’t see any regular coverage, you know, by I don’t know, 10:00 p.m. 11:00 p.m. Japan time, just assume that I might do highlights. And if I if I can’t even do highlights, I apologize. But I’ll be back on day nine. Um, don’t worry. And then day 10, like I said, is a national holiday. They’re doing like a special look back at some really memorable matches. So, I want to get some of that up on the channel. And uh then the rest of the week hopefully normal into the final weekend, 27th and 28th, day 14, day 15, and very full coverage those last two days. Okay, thanks for watching with me, guys. Hope it’s not raining like it is where I am, where you are. Hope you’re having a nice sunny day. Um and uh you enjoyed some sumo today like I did. Take care. Peace.

  1. Let's keep it up Hoshoryu 🎉🎉. I'm happy Hoshoryu is looking healthy again. He's not grabbing his elbow after every match like he was previously and his speedy movement is back. He is able to push and block with both arms and he's using good foot work now his broken toe is healed.

  2. Hey Jason or anyone here, I know you and others recommend Buy Sumo Tickets for non-Japanese speakers, but it is disorienting to see them listed on the front page of the Japan Sumo Association's website as "CAUTION! Don't buy tickets from these sites" every time I check the standings. Is Buy Sumo Tickets just being unfairly grouped with StubHub and viagogo or is something up? I know this basho is completely sold out, but I am planning a trip to Japan in 2026 or 2027.

  3. I love how Onosato pushes his oponentes brutally when they are at the edge of the ring. He pushes them out of the ring to the spectators, thats fun to watch. He did the same to Abi, now Gonoyama was his next victim.

  4. Will Gonoyama have the guts to go for a henka? You know it's gotta be in the back of Hoshoryu's mind thst it could happen.
