Congratulations to Harry Gan getting to the NASCAR Hall of Fame as he’s been a longtime comic form. Gan was selected as part of the class of 2026 along with Ray Hendrick and Kurt Bush back in May. Check out my video on Kurt Bush’s retirement. I’ll leave that in the description. Ganon Bush got 61% of the modern era ballot boats. Congratulations to all of those drivers. During G’s career, which lasted from 1973 to 1994, he won 18 races, had 123 top fives, 28 top 10s, 17 polls, led 8,446 laps, and had an average finish of 15.9 and 474 starts in the Cup series back when it was known as the Winston Cup Series. He made the Hall of Fame in his seventh year of eligibility. The driver from Taylor’sville, North Carolina, had several nicknames such as handsome Harry or his good looks. The Bandit due to his longtime sponsor being Skull Bandit, which is an iconic paint scheme that he ran as well. The team was named the Skull Bandit racing team specifically. It was originally owned by Bert Reynolds and How Needam from 1981 to 1988. Then it was owned by Leo and Richard Jackson for the rest of G’s career from 1989 to 1994. Gan also joined for other teams in his career including Don Levy Racing in 1973, Neil Castles in 1975 and Machuan Racing for a couple years in the 1980s. Gan was also nicknamed Mr. September after he won four straight Winston Cup races in 1991 at the age of 51 which was impressive in that way. Plus, he won two straight Expert Series races that month also back when it was known as the Bush Series. In addition to those nicknames, he was nicknamed high groove Harry due to being proficient in taking the high lane through the quarter. Gale was also very successful the Bush series as he won 20 world races whenever he drove in that series. He also won the Southern Bhood twice in 1984 and 1991. He also won the 1985 IRock championship and a tie with Daryl Walter but got the tiebreaker over Walter with a better finish in the race in Michigan. Gan beat Terry Labati for the race win and a photo finish. Gan bit is top five in the point standings four times in a five season span from 1981 to 1985 and bit his second in the championship standings to champion Terry Labati in 1984. Gan got his first career win in 1982 at the Virginia National Bank 500 at Barnesville Speedway. He led 167 of the final laps in his Buick and got the winning started for him and the Skull Bandit. Gan kept racing into his 50s and is the oldest driver to win a race at age 52, which he did in the Champion Spark Plug 400 at the Michigan International Speedway in 1992. He did it at 52 years in 219 days specifically. That win was also the final win of his Winston Cup career. He is also the oldest driver to win a pole at age 54. He did that in Bristol, Tennessee for the Goodies 500 in 1994. He also drove the first race car with a telemetry system installed in it at Tallaladega in 1985 and gave the data to CBS during coverage of the event. Gan was also named one of NASCAR’s 50 greatest drivers in 1998 and was added to the 75 greatest drivers list as part of the original 50 in 2023. Gan also ran 11 races in the Crash with Truck Series in 1996 and at board top 10s while leading 39 laps that year. Congratulations to Harry Gay on getting into the NASCAR Hall of Fame as it’s an incredible honor for him there especially and a long time Kobe board because of the fact that he waited a long time to get in just like Ricky Rudd and I talked about Ru’s Hall of Fame video as well as he got into the Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2025 after a long wait there as well and I highly recommend that video and I’ll leave that in the description and G also waited a long time to get in as this was his seventh year of eligibility and Rusty Wallace advocated for both Gant and Rod to get into the Hall of Fame as Rusty is also a fellow Hall of favor. So his wish came true as both now Gant and Rudd are in the Hall of Fame. So definitely that’s a pretty cool thing there especially because of the fact that drivers that race so long at NASCAR especially like Rusty and Run as well with Gant because of the fact that they raced so many years there in NASCAR especially with G raced against a lot of different drivers especially in different eras because of the fact that he raced from 1973 till 1994. So he got to race against drivers like Richard Petty, David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Kale Yarro, then Dale Lordhart, Daryl Walrip, Bill Elliot, Teriy, Rusty and Rudd like I mentioned earlier. And then he ended up racing against drivers like Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Morgan, Dale Jarrett, and Bobby the body. So he raced against a lot of different drivers that end up becoming big time and NASCAR especially. But his stats wouldn’t say Hall of Fame because of the fact that he never won a championship and all that and he didn’t win a lot of races either as he only won 18 in his career in the Winston Cup Series which is probably why it took a long time for him to get into the Hall of Fame. But because of the fact that he won all those races that he wrote at age 51 because of the fact that drivers don’t do that anymore because of the fact that drivers don’t race till their 50s anymore. Even though Gan did get a later start to his Cup career because of the fact that he started in his 30s. So, he had a chance to race a little bit longer and get a chance to race to his 50s, but it’s still a pretty impressive streak. Now, he was still able to win four races in a row in his 50s. Thankly, that’s something that will never happen again in the Cup series specifically, even though Ron Hornady Jr. did win five races in a row in 2009, but that was in the Cross Truck Series though, and he was in his 50s there as well. But, so something like that might have been a reason why he got into Hall of Fame. Gant that is the last time a driver won his 50s in the Cup series was Mark Bore in 2009. It’s just that drivers don’t race till their 50s anymore. So something like this will probably never be broken again. So that probably what made him a Hall of Famer there especially even though he was named one of the 50 greatest NASCAR drivers in 1998. So he had some sort of an impact on the sport and it was a popular driver there especially. So, but still for it to be able to win that many in a row at that age, especially because of the fact, like I said, drivers don’t end up racing that long anymore, especially because of the fact that drivers start younger and they end up retiring younger because of the fact that that’s how it is. Especially with drivers like Jeff Gore, Jimmy Johnson, Tony Stewart, Dodor Jr., Kurt Bush, Carl Edwards, More Trux Jr., Matt Kenziff, Greg Biffle, Kevin Horvick, all those drivers retired before 50. So a chance of drivers to be able to win four races in a row at that age specifically is pretty much impossible. But no drivers won four races in a row since Jimmy Johnson in general in the Cup Series in 2007. But definitely that’s a pretty impressive streak there because of the fact that drivers at that age pretty much are done. So definitely that was a pretty impressive streak that he did there in 1991 there especially. But definitely pretty cool that he got to accomplish that. So definitely not taking it away from him doing that. Definitely incredible feat and all that. So that’s pretty cool that he got to do that. But definely, it’s going to be interesting to see what his speech is like and all that, especially because of the fact that he hasn’t talked much since the announcement. So definitely it’ll be interesting to see how he reacts and all that. So definitely it’ll be pretty cool there as well. So definitely, like I said, congratulations again to G on getting to the Hall of Fame. Definitely an incredible artist. So definitely pretty cool for him there as well. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed. Don’t forget to leave a like and if you are brand new, subscribe and we’ll see you guys in the next video. Peace.
