Fundraising is in full swing for USD 252 Southern Lyon County’s annual Honor Flight to Washington, DC, next spring.

The district’s annual Honor Flight Golf Tournament had a full field at the Emporia Golf Course on Saturday. Organizer Russ Bonitatibus says there was a notable sponsor list helping the event’s success.

Fellow organizer Sherry Willard was grateful for the turnout.

District Superintendent Ryan Muhlig says “there’s no greater cause” than honoring veterans.

The district had been raising funds for two trips to Washington for several years but has returned to the original schedule of one trip for year, which will take place in April. The trip will be the district’s 15th. Veterans will start meeting with their student guardians later this year.

Speaking of fundraising, the annual barbecue fundraiser is Oct. 3 at the Olpe High Homecoming football game.
