  1. Sounds like you need a new fitting. Driver shaft might be the issue

As an avid VW enthusiast and a golfer, I find this attempt to solve the known valve issue quite hilarious.

There’s your problem right there, ain’t go no gas in it.

Although this is for golf the sport, im a mechanic, this needs attention if its petrol, if its diesel its okay from vid imo

Legendary. Looking forward to the next few years of joke “car” threads in this subreddit. Perhaps replacing the “x happened so I bought a new driver” posts?

Definitely should look into getting fitted

The ticking could be from your setup, grip and positioning

I’m tired of people posting their issues without consulting a pro first. Have you even tried swing lessons yet?

  9. WeirdSysAdmin

Are you allowed to use that as a cart?

I think with a few lessons and going to the range a few times a week you’ll see improvement

I know nothing about VW Golfs, but I would check valve clearances, give it a fresh oil change. If the sound goes away after the car warms up, it might just be extra valvetrain noise before the oil starts circulating.

You could maybe get a mechanics stethoscope to find out where exactly the noise is coming from. Maybe there’s a loose timing chain tensioner if it has a chain vs belt?

    Good luck.

I love how much good advice this guy got on the wrong sub 😂😂!

  13. In before this guys chain was rattling so I bought a new driver

  14. Don’t waste the money on a fitting, go get lessons first

    1. But a new driver.

    2. ChatGPT in about 10 seconds.

The VW Golf Mk6 R (2.0 TSI EA113 or EA888 depending on market) is known to sometimes develop timing chain rattle issues. Here’s a breakdown:

    🔊 What “chain rattle” means
    • A metallic rattling sound at cold start (usually 1–3 seconds).
    • Caused by slack in the timing chain before oil pressure builds up in the tensioner.
    • Commonly happens after the car has sat overnight.

    ⚠️ Causes
    1. Timing chain tensioner wear/failure → The early EA888 engines had a weak tensioner design.
    2. Timing chain stretch → Over time the chain elongates slightly, making the tensioner less effective.
    3. Low oil pressure or wrong oil grade → Can delay the tensioner filling with oil.
    4. Cold starts → More noticeable when oil is thick.

    🔧 Risks
    • If ignored, the chain can jump teeth → leading to misfires, poor running, or even catastrophic engine damage (bent valves).

    ✅ Fix / Solutions
    • Check which engine you have:
    • EA113 (older belt-driven cam, less prone to chain issues).
    • EA888 Gen 1/2 (chain-driven, the ones with tensioner issues).
    • If rattle is consistent → replace timing chain + guides + tensioner with the updated OEM kit.
    • Always use correct VW 502.00 spec oil and change regularly.
    • If rattle is only 1 second at cold start and never when warm, it might still be “within tolerance,” but should be monitored closely.

Should consider something more reliable like a Japanese import or something. Perhaps Mizuno or Srixon?
