Scotty Sheffller is the number one golfer in the world right now. And his consistency is not outmatched by any other person on the field. And I don’t know about you, but if I had just a drop of his consistency, my scores would be lower. I’d be having more fun on the golf course. So, when I found out that Scotty Sheffller uses a grip trainer that I could pick up for $15 off of Amazon, I decided that I should pick it up and try it. Can this $15 piece of plastic actually change my consistency for the better? Or is it another trainer that’s destined for the garage? Let’s find out. Here’s what I’m doing for the next week. The first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to hit 20 balls to get my baseline consistency. We’re going to look at dispersion left and right. I’m not going to really worry about dispersion front to back, just left and right. Right now, I’m getting the pushes. I’m getting the pull hooks. Let’s see if I can fix that. And then for the next seven days, I’m going to do a simple yet focused practice routine with the grape trainer. No marathon sessions, just consistent, honest reps. After the seven days, I’m going to hit another 20 balls to see if I made any gains on my consistency. No hype, no paid reviews, just an honest results from a mid handicapper who’s obsessed with making golf more affordable and more fun. Let’s see if we can pay for just a little bit of Scotty’s consistency or did I just waste $15 on a piece of plastic? Let’s find out. So, before we get started with this uh grip trainer, I’m going to hit my 20 shots with my normal grip. This is what my normal grip looks like right now. I have a coach right now. He says my grip is kind of fine. Um he hasn’t really tried to fix it or anything. And so I feel like I got an okay grip, but my consistency still isn’t there. So 20 shots, seven iron. Let’s see how consistent I am. That was a great strike. Little push right down the middle. Love that. Not too bad though. Love that immensely. That’s not good. Not good, you guys. Oh, there’s a miss. It’s a big push. Seen that on the golf course. Hooking them all day and then I push it. Okay. So, there was my 20 shots. As you can see, I’m not super consistent. And what I really noticed is I had some draws. I had some fades. I topped a couple. And so, I’m hoping that the grip trainer will help me get more consistent with all of that. So, let’s put the grip trainer on. And what I was told is like you just you put it on, you line it up with a square face. And I’m going to kind of put it back a little bit. It’s a little bit of a closed face there. So I’m just going to tweak it. And then once you got it on there with a square face, you now have a grip trainer. Perfect. On there with a square face. I like it. And it this this guy again was like $15. It’s on there pretty good. I’m not really worried about it moving around. So, let’s get into the practice routine. And the first thing I’m going to do is I’m just going to go through my setup, my pre-shot routine with the grip trainer. And the reason why I’m doing that is because I need to get used to seeing what my grip looks like with the grip trainer on. So, let’s get going with that real quick. There’s no ball. I’m going to do this like 10 to 15 times in a row every day before I even start hitting any balls. And what we’re going to do is I’m just going to grip it with the grip trainer. Um, right off the bat, um, my right my left hand, my lead hand is way stronger. Um, but then my left hand is way weaker. So hopefully that will balance things out because I’m a little nervous about this strong grip with my right hand because I’m or I mostly hook the ball. Um, but let’s see what happens. And so I’m my pre-shot routine is I’m going to look at my club with a square club face and then I’m going to go and aim my ball and then stop and kind of look at everything. Make sure everything I’m memorizing this stance again. This my left hand is way this way and my right hand is way that way. It feels fairly strange. And I’m just gonna let go of the grip and do that 10 more times. Okay. So, I just did the whole practice routine. Uh I’m tomorrow I’m going to show you what we’re going to do after the pre-shot routine. But I’m super optimistic about this little grip trainer. uh have some positive results on the first day. I’ll see you guys tomorrow. So, day two, I’m going to go through my routine of just setting up the right grip and getting in position. I’m going to do that 10 to 15 times, and then I’m going to show you what we do next. If there’s anything else that you would like me to try for a week to see if it betterers my game, leave that down in the comments below. After we do that, what we’re going to do is we’re going to um go through some slow motion swings, not hitting any balls, and just kind of hitting the positions that I want to hit with the face angle. I’m not really worried about anything else but the face angle because I am not used to having my grip this weak with my right hand and that strong with my left hand. And so I’m all I’m going to do is go through the position. So, I’m going to go I’m going to go to club parallel to the ground in my back swing. And I’m going to make sure that the club face is vertical or a little closed. I’m going to do the same thing at the top of my swing. I’m going to shift. I’m going to come down. Make sure it’s vertical or a little closed. Make sure through impact it’s a little bit open to my path. So, I want to hit a draw. And then I’m going to hold it open through impact to make sure that I don’t hook the ball. And that’s all I’m going to do. I’m going to go through those. I’m going to do this like 10 times. And we’re going to do something a little bit different with the last five to 10 swings. Okay. So, now that I’m done with those uh 10 swings, not really swings, I’m going to kind of add a little bit of more movement in because having those static poses is not really going to do anything. So, I’m going to set up. Make sure everything’s good. set up and then just kind of swing it into this position. Make sure it’s good. So, I’m gonna swing it. And I’m going to swing it past it. And then I’m gonna swing it past it. Come down. Make sure everything’s good. Swing it past it. Come down to impact. And then swing it past it. Come back. Impact. And hold it off. I’m going to do that like five times. It’s a lot, but that’s kind of what I’m doing. And swing it. Make sure it’s good. Swing it past it. Make sure it’s good. Swing it past it. Come down. Make sure it’s good. Swing it past it. Come down to impact. Make sure it’s good. Then swing it past it. Impact. Hold it off. So, I finished up with day number two using this right here, the script trainer. And so far, it feels weird, but I think um especially with those slow motion swings, I’m feeling the position. I’m hitting it a little bit better today than yesterday. So, as time goes on, I’ll see you guys tomorrow and we’ll see what my progression is. Then, if you’ve used a grip trainer yourself, go ahead and leave a comment below. Give me your results. Were they good? Were they bad? What was the cons that you had? What was the pros that you had? Okay. So, the last thing that we’re going to be doing, and it’s going to be with the grip trainer on, and I’m using my Garmin R10 to do this, but you can definitely do this at the range also. And all I’m trying to do is since this is a new feeling for me, and I want to make sure the ball is starting where I want it to start based on my swing path. So, if you want to play a fade and you’re a right-handed golfer, you want it to start on the left side of your target. I want to play a draw. So, I want to start it on the right side. So, all I’m gonna do is take some slow swings, little half swings, and make sure it starts off to the right. Just like that. And make sure it starts right. I don’t really care about the curve right now. I am just worried about my knowing where my face is and starting it off. Right. All right. So after you get those 10 done, it is now time to go into your regular practice. And so if you want to hit full shots, if you want to do wedges, if you want to try it with your driver, go ahead and do that. But just remember now you’re you know what the grip looks like. Try to remember the grip. And don’t just throw balls down and hit without fixing your grip every single time. But you definitely want to hit it without the grip trainer. It takes me about 20 minutes to do that whole routine. I’ve been doing it for a few days now. This is day number three. And so, and I think it’s been paying off. So, here’s a good little strike here. That was so good. Have I come more consistent yet? I have no idea. Let’s do a 4-day montage and I’ll see you on that seventh day. [Music] Hey, [Music] Seventh day. Last day. Then we’re going to see the results here. [Music] Now I’m going to use my Garmin R10 and do that 20 shot test again without the grip trainer and see if it did anything different. So, here we go. 20 shots. Garmin R10. I’m just going to grab with that new grip. Um, after 7 days, does it still feel funny? Yes. And I’ll talk about the grip trainer here in a second. Here’s the very first shot. Felt really good. I’m going to consciously make sure that I grip it the same way every time. So, talk about the grip trainer a little bit as I’m hitting here. Um, I’ll I’ll I’ll say the pros. The pros is I feel like it was getting easier and easier every day and I didn’t need to um when I was going to play rounds I I felt like I could get my hands in the same position. It felt semi right now. Does it still feel kind of funky? Yes. Um, some cons of it is, uh, the one that I bought, it does move around quite a bit and you kind of have to readjust it every once in a while. And if you don’t, you will, um, it will seem more closed or more shut. But the longer you use it, the more you notice that it’s more closed and shut. That’s one of the reasons I did the approach or my uh pre-shot routine while I was doing it is because um so I can see it down with the ball and I can imagine how it’s supposed to look each and every time, not just by gripping it. Now, do I feel like it’s making a difference? I don’t really know. This is really the main test. I mean, that last shot I just hit was definitely a pull due to the face. Um was that because I didn’t grip it right? I don’t know. I’ve been trying to make sure. So, I’m going to go look at the numbers compared it to the first ones. I’ll give you the rest of the thoughts about the grip trainer. Let’s get at it. Oo, I’m looking at a little sneak preview here and you’re going to want to stick around. All right, so we got some results here and I’m a pretty excited to share these results with you. I got it on my phone and I used Awesome Golf. So, I’m going to open up the Awesome Golf community app. And if you haven’t heard of Awesome Golf, I’m going to leave a link down in the description. They don’t even know I’m sending you there. I don’t make any money from sending you there. I just want to spread the joy of Awesome Golf cuz I use it all of the time. So, we’re going to start looking at the results, but there’s two things that we’re going to look at specifically cuz we’re looking at the dispersion left and right. And the first thing is the standard deviation between the horizontal launch and the standard deviation of the facetotarget. And standard deviation is just how much of the spread did I actually have it. So the higher the number, the more different my swings were from swing to swing. So the very first day, my horizontal launch deviation was 4.4°. So I had a 4.4° 4° deviation or spread of the horizontal launch right after I hit the ball. And then I had my face to target deviation of 5.3°. So my face deviated 5.3° through swing to swing. So I don’t think those are great numbers by any means. Um, six degrees is 1 second tick on a clock. And that doesn’t seem like a lot, but that would change the direction of the ball and the spin quite uh dramatically um from swing to swing. I mean, that deviation could be a pu straight push to a straight hook. And that’s how much difference that could be. So, that’s one of the reasons I feel like I feel so inconsistent. And then going after the seven days, and this is crazy. Remember the horizontal launch for before was 4.4 and the horizontal launch deviation after was 1.7. So I cut that in half just for a week of using this grip trainer right here, which is I think a pretty amazing feat. And really I was just focusing on grip. There wasn’t really that many swing changes that I made. The swing changes were really just for me to force that grip to work. Okay, so now let’s go to the face angle. And the face angle is really I think what it would change the most with the grip. And I believe it changed the most with the in this case two. And again, I started out with 5.3° and it dropped down to 1.9 degrees. That is 3.5 degrees different. Yeah, that’s that’s a that’s an insane amount of progress in just a week just by using that uh grip trainer. So, I’m extremely excited about those results. I don’t know if you guys can tell. It was $15. It was really like $12.99, but I’m I’m going to call it $15 for this thing. Did it slide around a little bit? Yes. But that did not affect my progress. I just made sure it was good. For $15, I think this is 100% worth it. And I have a link down in the description. Uh it’s an Amazon link. It doesn’t cost you any more money, but it helps this channel out make great videos like this. So, if you’re thinking about purchasing it, it would make me happy if you click that link down below. Purchase it through that link. It helps me out greatly. I’m going to have another one linked down in the description. It’s going to be more money because it’s an actual club with this molded onto it. So, if you do not like the idea of it sliding around on you, there’ll be an option down below for that, too. But, highly recommend. Do this for a week. Do this for a month. I’m going to be This is going to be in my golf bag. I’m going to be using it on the range before I hit my balls all the time, just like Scotty Shuffler. So, was Scotty Shuffler right about this grip trainer? I’m going to say yes for consistency. It definitely helped me out. And so, go ahead and go purchase one. And until next time, make golf your project and I’ll see you next video.

  1. Fun vid. I find a stronger lead hand and neutral to weak trail hand keeps a more easily square clubface that I'm not scared to hook since the trail hand can't turn the face over as easily.
