Golfer Charley Hull was invited to the state banquet at Windsor Castle

English golfer Charley Hull said Donald Trump invited her to play a game of golf when they spoke at the state banquet on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old was one of the 160 guests at the lavish dinner in Windsor Castle, alongside the US president, Prime Minister Kier Starmer and King Charles III.

Hull, from Kettering in Northamptonshire, won her third LGPA Tour title last week at the Queen City Championship in Ohio.

She said she spoke to Trump “for a little while, he was lovely man and I really got on with him”.

Fellow golfer Sir Nick Faldo and athlete Dame Katherine Grainger were among the other sports stars at the banquet.

Trump’s passion for golf is well known and he owns 11 courses in the US and three in the UK.

Hull said he had already been contact with her last year about playing together, but she was unable due to being on holiday.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5Live, she said when she spoke to him at the dinner “he said he wanted to sort a game out”.

“We’re going to try to sort a game out towards the end of the year and that’ll be pretty cool,” she said.

Speaking about the banquet the three-time major runner-up said: “It was an honour to be invited and it was a pretty incredible experience.”

As well as Trump, Hull said she met Catherine, Princess of Wales, who she said was “an absolutely lovely woman”.

She added she was “pretty chill” about the occasion and was most nervous about driving to and from the event having turned down a chauffeur.

The president second state visit concluded on Thursday.
