European Rder Cup star Matthew Fitzpatrick encountered an unusual challenge during the BMW PGA Championship just weeks before the 2025 Ryder Cup at Beth Page Black. On the 18th hole of his opening round after hitting into the trees, a thunderstorm paused play for 90 minutes. During the delay, Fitzpatrick’s caddy Dan Parrot worried that spectators might take the original ball. Reports later confirmed two boys had retrieved a ball from the bushes. Tournament officials allowed Fitzpatrick to drop a replacement, preventing a worse score. In round two, Fitzpatrick also self-reported a one-stroke penalty for a shifted ball on the fourth hole, but managed to save par. He finished round three with a three under 69, reaching 10 under and tying with Ludvig Aberg, Euan Ferguson, Patrick Reed, and Harry Hall. Leaders Adrien Sadia and Alex Norin sit at 15 under.
