Golf may not have quite the same convergent relationship with fashion that tennis does, but Princess Charlene of Monaco made a case for some particularly elegant golf wear over the weekend when she and her husband, Prince Albert, chipped onto the green for the ceremonial 19th hole of the Princess of Monaco Cup. (Don’t worry, architecture fans, as the Monaco Tribune noted the “golf balls” for the final hole were actually made of compressed cotton to avoid potential incident or damage to the historic Place du Casino nearby.)
Charlene kicked off the proceedings in a sleeveless, white lace dress by Elie Saab with a scalloped, ankle-brushing hemline. Instead of cleats, Charlene opted for Jimmy Choo pumps with delicate pearl button details.

The dress, which was reportedly bespoke, nodded to some of Monaco’s glamorous history, with the demure shape and fitted bodice evoking a sense of Albert’s mother, the late Grace Kelly, while the pale shade gave reference to the white and red of the Monaco flag. While not typical golf gear, the ensemble was perfect for the party and charity auction to follow.

The tournament, organized by the Princess Charlene Foundation, serves as a fundraiser for the foundation’s initiatives, including promoting youth sports and water safety. Princess Charlene recently opened up about the latter, sharing about the tragic childhood drowning of a cousin which inspired her to dedicate herself to promoting swimming lessons, which she said, “should be a fundamental right, just like learning to read.” She added, “Cost should never be a barrier to acquiring a life-saving skill.”
