Marco Penge Reacts After Missing Ryder Cup Pick | “Maybe If It Was at Home…”
Marco Penge has had the season of his life—two DP World Tour wins, a surge up the Race to Dubai standings, and now sitting on the verge of earning his PGA Tour card. But despite all of that success, the Englishman was left out of Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup team for the showdown at Bethpage Black.
In this video, we break down Marco Penge’s reaction to being snubbed, his belief that a home Ryder Cup might have changed the captain’s decision, and why he still feels proud of his performances under pressure this season. 🏆
Penge remains positive, respecting Donald’s decision to lean on experienced players like Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Åberg, and Sepp Straka. But with his rapid rise on the DP World Tour, many believe Penge’s Ryder Cup chance is only a matter of time.

Marco Ping has admitted he was left disappointed to miss out on a Ryder Cup debut this year, but believes circumstances may have played a role in Luke Donald’s decision. The Englishman has enjoyed a breakout season on the DP World Tour, claiming titles at both the Hainan Classic and the Danish Golf Championship. His consistency has propelled him to second in the race to Dubai standings, just behind Rory Mroy and put him on the brink of earning a PGA Tour card. Despite his success, it wasn’t enough to secure one of Donald’s captain’s picks for Europe’s trip to Beth Page Black in New York later this month. Ping feels that if the RDER Cup had been staged on European soil, the outcome may have been different. Speaking at the Amjun Irish Open, he reflected, “I know how well I played and we got really close. I feel maybe if it was a Home Rider Cup, I might have got in. I totally understand it’s going to be tough for the boys to go over there with the crowds. It was something I wanted to achieve and it was a massive ask, but to get really close and perform under the pressure of knowing I needed to deliver proves a lot to myself. While missing out Stung, the 26-year-old had nothing but respect for his captain’s decision to lean on proven experience. I totally understand Luke wanted to take all of his experienced players, and there’s no hard feelings. I’ve just got to keep improving and see where we are in 2027. Ping added. Ping joined compatriots Matt Wallace and Harry Hall in narrowly missing out on a pick with Donald ultimately opting for John Rom, Shane Lowry, Sept Straka, Ludvigabberg, Victor Havland, and Matt Fitzpatrick to round out his team. Though his Rder Cup dream is on hold for now, Ping’s rapid rise this season suggests it may only be a matter of time before he pulls on the blue and gold.
