Princess Charlene of Monaco went monochrome in Elie Saab with dashes of floral inspiration at the Fourth Princess of Monaco Cup golf tournament on Tuesday in Monaco.

Accompanied by her husband of 14 years, Prince Albert II, Princess Charlene wore a bespoke, sleeveless floral embroidered tulle midi dress. The look featured a rounded neckline and some playful sheer elements on the bodice of the frock.

Beneath the dress was a stark white base, which was overlayered by the floral embroidery and semi-sheer element at the neckline. Per the fashion label’s description of the dress, the look upon which Princess Charlene’s midi frock is based echoes the “romantic elegance of 1950s Italian cinema.”

Following World War II, Italy’s film industry took cues from Hollywood, elevating glamour and sweeping love stories in several features. Sophia Loren was among the biggest stars of the time to help popularize this particular Italian film movement.

Princess Charlene’s delicate Elie Saab dress combines elements of femininity and delicate qualities. Indeed, the floral embroidery adds a touch of ornate detailing, but the overall effect, including the slightly cinched waist thanks to the ribbon belt, evokes romantic appeal.

To further accentuate the monochrome look of her attire, Princess Charlene added a pair of patent leather slingback Jimmy Choo pumps to her look. As for jewelry, the royal kept her accessories minimal, save for a pair of stud earrings and her rings.
