Many golfers set up incorrectly by “sitting back,” which kills balance and power. In this video, we use a simple stool to show the correct posture and why sitting back is a mistake. Learn how proper setup positions you for better swings, more consistent contact, and improved ball flight

So, stop sitting back when you’re in your posture here. We see this a lot where the butt gets too much behind the heel line. Now, when I’m in this position where the butt’s back, I feel so weak. I can’t really engage the ground here. I feel like this would just be a hands and arms golf swing. And what this often leads to is that we know that I can’t really use the ground from here. So, we see somebody who’s sitting back, they’ll swing back, and they’ll move forward to engage the ground. But the problem is now they what we call early extended. they’re thrusted towards the golf ball. Soon as I stand up off this where I’m not back now, I can feel the ground. Now I can actually push and engage that lower body from here. So we like to see that the hip joint is a bit more over the ankle joint here. Soon as I get back here, I’ve got zero power. The great thing about being in a much more of a a balanced posture here is that now I can rotate and actually maintain the angle. So, get up off your chair. Feel nice and tall. The hips are over the ankles. You’ll feel the ground a lot different. Now, I’m ready to move. And I guarantee this will be more hopefully more at the middle.

  1. A better player can be in that setup position and be ok. As long as you don't EE early in the backswing then that setup position isn't bad. It's also a very powerful feeling setup position and very easy to use the ground.

The biggest problem with that setup position, IF YOU DON'T EE, is that the CoM line on a grf graph will be too slanted from trail heel to lead toe, so rotation has to be more forceful…or, just play a draw from that setup.

Because that setup position causes the lead knee to move toward the ball more than optimal, any EE is going to be worsened by that setup position.
