Rory McIlroy’s 72nd-Hole EAGLE → Playoff Win at The Irish Open
Rory McIlroy delivered a home-nation classic at The K Club. Starting Sunday four shots behind the lead, Rory clawed back, then drilled a ~28–30-foot eagle putt on the 72nd to tie Joakim Lagergren at −17 and force extra holes. In the playoff, they traded birdies on the first two, before Lagergren’s approach found water on the third and Rory closed with a birdie to claim his second Amgen Irish Open title.

Didn’t get this gusta did you? I didn’t. Sweden’s yawakim lag surges late. Eagle plants a clubhouse target at 17. 72nd hole. [Applause] But he’s given himself a chance. Rory needs eagle to time. And down it goes. We’re tied at 17. Back down 80. Once, twice, third extra hole. Lagran finds the water. Rory steady from the rough and cleans up. Birdie Ireland erupts. Not to be. So happy I could play play the way I did um this week for all of them and and get the win. Didn’t get this old gusta, did you? Oh my. I didn’t. This this is uh hopefully be getting a bit of it in a few weeks time at the Ryder Cup.
