CINCINNATI, Ohio – Powered by two top-10 finishes, the Little Rock men’s golf team claimed second place at The Bearcat Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Cold Stream Country Club.
Mark Stockdale paced the Trojans with a third-place finish at 5-under par, while Ed Featherstone placed sixth at 4-under. As a team, Little Rock finished 7-under for the tournament, trailing only host Cincinnati (-18).
“It was a great team effort this week, but Mark and Ed played some fantastic golf out there,” head coach Austin Eoff said. “This was a golf course that Ed struggled with last year as a freshman, so it was great to see him bounce back and get some redemption. Mark also showed a lot of resilience—after starting 3-over through six holes, he played the remaining 48 holes at 8-under.”
The Trojans separated themselves in second place, finishing ahead of Arkansas and Nebraska (tied for third at -1) and Louisville (fifth at +1).
“I’m really proud of the way we competed,” Eoff said. “We worked hard on our short games after Minnesota, making practice incredibly difficult each of the five days before this event, and it paid off. We improved tremendously around and on the greens, which is how we led the field in par-5 scoring. A second-place finish against this field is a great boost to our fall season.”
Rhett South finished tied for 24th at even par, while Elliott Simonsen tied for 33rd at 2-over.
The Trojans return to action September 29-30 at the Bryan Brothers Collegiate Tournament hosted by South Carolina.
“We’ll use the next 10 days at home to keep improving from 125 yards and in before heading to South Carolina,” Eoff added.
