Boyle Sports has reported that Team Europe are building momentum in the betting markets ahead of next week’s eagerly anticipated Ryder Cup at Bethpage.
Eleven of Europe’s twelve-man team took to the skies for New York on Sunday with captain Luke Donald after finishing up their rounds at the BMW Championship, with twelfth member Sepp Straka meeting them in the Big Apple.
A two-day reconnaissance mission which saw the defending Ryder Cup champions take in 9 holes on Monday before playing the full-18 on Tuesday is inspiring punters that the European raiders could snatch a first victory on US soil since the Miracle in Medinah in 2012.
Odds of 7/4 have been snapped up on a European triumph but Luke Donald’s men still remain underdogs at 6/4, behind a red-hot US Team (4/6f) whose chances were further bolstered by Scottie Scheffler’s weekend win at the Procore Championship.
The world number one is the 6/1 favourite to chalk up the most points across the three days, with Rory McIlroy and Jon Ram leading the race for Europe at odds of 9/1.
Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said: “Home soil advantage has undoubtedly swung the odds in favour of Team USA, especially with the New York fans primed to make the atmosphere an electric one. But it’s not all one way traffic in the betting market and with Luke Donald’s men getting their prep underway early, they’re the better backed team of the two.”
