The K Club in Ireland has been chosen to host the 2026 PGA Cup, the biennial team matchplay event competed by PGA Professionals representing the PGA of GB&I and the PGA of America.

The prestigious County Kildare venue becomes the first in the 53-year history of the PGA Cup to host the event three times, having previously staged the matches in 1992 and again in 2005.

Widely regarded as the pinnacle for any PGA Professional, next year’s renewal of the PGA Cup will be the 32nd edition of the Ryder Cup-style matches which first took place in 1973. Each team consists of ten players, and the event unfolds over three days of competition, featuring four foursomes and four fourballs on each of the first two days, followed by ten singles matches on the final day.

The 2026 PGA Cup week will begin on September 29 and conclude on October 4, with match days scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The K Club’s South Course will host the event.

Current PGA Captain David Scott will also take on the role of Captain for the Great Britain & Ireland team as they prepare to face their counterparts from the USA. Next year marks Scott’s turn in post, as the current PGA Captain gears up for what he hopes will be a redemptive outing for his side. In 2024, the USA secured a commanding 17.5-8.5 win at Sunriver Resort, Oregon.

No stranger to high-level competition – having finished runner up to Brian Barnes in the PGA Professional Championship and competing in the 1990 PGA Cup – Scott reflects on his excitement for the event and the quality of PGA Professionals available.

“I’m super excited and very honoured, as I’m aware of the many incredible captains we have had in previous years,” he said. “I was fortunate enough to be at the last PGA Cup match at Sunriver, and I got to know the players. I hope many of them qualify again for next year’s matches, as there was some superb talent on show. Of course, I’ve seen many players this year too, due to my attendance at all the National Tournaments in my role as PGA Captain.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that we have a great pool of talented players across GB&I. The last time we had the trophy was 2017 at Foxhills. It’s about time we wrestled the cup back to this side of the pond, and I’ll be doing all I can to prepare the team to fight with pride.”

The K Club has hosted some of the biggest events in professional golf, including the 2006 Ryder Cup, multiple European Opens, and the Irish Open – the latest of which took place in earlier this month, where Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy proved a hugely popular winner.

Robert Maxfield, Chief Executive of The PGA, commented: “It’s fantastic to be returning to The K Club, a venue that holds special memories for so many of us, particularly under the leadership of the late Jim Farmer in 2005. I’ve no doubt the players can expect first-class facilities, excellent course conditions, and a challenging layout. I’m confident The K Club will once again prove to be the perfect stage to showcase the talents of both teams.

He added: “The GB&I team are in extremely capable hands under the captaincy of David Scott. As a former player in this event, David understands exactly what it means to represent GB&I. He brings not only experience but a deep passion for the game and I’m sure he’ll feel the same immense pride leading his side as he did wearing the team colours.”

Reflecting on the honour of hosting the PGA Cup once again, Michael Maxwell, Director of Golf at The K Club, commented: “We are delighted to be announced as the host venue for the 2026 PGA Cup for the third time. It is our commitment to continue hosting such prestigious events over our Championship courses, and the PGA Cup is a fantastic addition alongside the Women’s Irish Open for 2026.”
