When Tier Hatton was asked how he celebrated securing his spot on Europe’s Rder Cup team for the fourth time, nobody in the press room was quite prepared for what followed. Speaking at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Hatton recounted a wild night in Indianapolis with John Rom, who had just pocketed $18 million for winning Eliv Golf’s individual title. Withrom celebrating and Luke Donald confirming Hatton’s automatic qualification for the RDER Cup. There was plenty of reason for a blowout and Hatton didn’t hold back. Yeah, I do not want to feel that bad the next day, he began. That was aggressive. I won’t go into details of what state that I woke up to. Moments later, he did exactly that. When I got back to the room, I fell across the bed sideways, he explained with a grin. I woke up after throwing up in that position and then fell asleep again like that. When I came around properly, I realized I’ve been sick all down my arms and shirt. I got up, went to the bathroom, looked in the mirror, and it was all over my face as well. I don’t even know how I managed to set an alarm and make my flight a few hours later. Hatton admitted he panicked, calling his wife Emily for advice before trying to salvage the scene. I was rushing to make the room somewhat acceptable before leaving. I stripped the bed, left some cash, and a note apologizing for the mess. asking them to throw in the trash. I felt like that was the right thing to do, but I was obviously in a pretty bad way. The evening had started off well enough, but escalated quickly. At some point, I even fell asleep at the table while everyone else carried on, Hatton said. Apparently, I was great crack at the end of the night, even if I wasn’t awake to enjoy it. So, what exactly had fueled such a disastrous hangover? Hatton gave the full breakdown. I had about six glasses of wine at dinner, then a double gin and tonic, he said. John was deciding what he wanted and ordered dyserano sours, so I went along with it. They went down far too easily. Then I started a chant encouraging people to down theirs. And after that, every cocktail basically turned into a shot. When the bar ran out of dysano, things spiraled further. The barma made a hazelnut sour, which wasn’t great, but we had a few. Then there were margaritas, then some kind of strawberry vodka thing. It got aggressive. It was horrible, but at the time it seemed funny. Asked if this might be a preview of how Europe would celebrate a Ryder Cup win in New York. Hatton laughed. I’d like to think we’d celebrate properly if we pulled it off. There’s a good chance I’ll be throwing up again, but hopefully I’ll stay awake long enough to enjoy most of the night this time.
