The FNIA crew of Maria Taylor, Jason Garrett, Mike Florio and Matthew Berry recap Week 2 Sunday, where the highly-anticipated Super Bowl LIX rematch left the Chiefs with a sour taste in their mouths after falling to 0-2 on the season against the Eagles, the Detroit Lions making a statement in their dominant win against the Chicago Bears, showing that student Ben Johnson still has more to learn before defeating his teacher Dan Campbell. They also examine the best wins and worst losses of the week before listing the best individual performers. #NBCSports #NFL #SundayNightFootball #FNIA

NFL Week 2 recap: Chiefs slip to 0-2, Lions rebound, best/worst of Week 2 & more | FNIA | NFL on NBC
https://www.youtube.com/NFLonNBC

This is Football Night in America built by Lowe’s. Welcome to the Football Night in America podcast presented by Lowe’s. Maria Taylor alongside Matthew Barry, Mike Florio, and Jason Garrett here with you for our week 2 takeaways. And guys, I think we should start with Super Bowl 59’s rematch between the Eagles and the Chiefs. It was like the one game we didn’t get all the scoring in, but it left us with a lot of questions about the Chiefs. 100%. since 2014. This is their first 0 and2 start, right? And that year, by the way, 2014, they missed the playoffs. I for me, I guess I don’t really have a stat for this except I always felt like these are the kind of games they used to win that you you were scared or like if you were a Chiefs fans, it’s like, all right, yeah, they’re screwing around a little bit, but they’ll figure this out and they just didn’t. And they didn’t last week and they didn’t in the Super Bowl. And I understand the concern like, hey, well, they don’t have Rashi Rice and they don’t have Xavier Worthy. But you think about last year, they didn’t have Rashi Rice for most of the year. And Xavier Worthy was a rookie who didn’t really expand his route tree until the second half of the season, but they still managed to find ways to win those games and they just didn’t. I just feel like last year’s Chiefs, Travis Kelce comes up with that ball or Mahomes hits him a little bit. So, they just it feels like they’ve lost a little bit of magic and a little bit of fear, you know, that other teams have. It doesn’t feel like teams are scared of the Chiefs the way they used to be. I’d said the past couple of years that the Chiefs have a bad habit of playing with their food. Yeah. And they eventually figure it out and they get it done. We’ve seen two games now this year that they could have won and past Chiefs teams would have won. Yeah. And they’re on the other end of it now and they’ve got to figure it out quickly because you start piling up losses in September. Next thing you know, you’re getting to a shorter and shorter margin for error and you have to worry about whether or not you’re even going to make the playoffs. Yeah. Uh, Philadelphia is better than Kansas City. They’re a better team. They’re a more talented team. We saw that last year at the Super Bowl. Um, so so today’s game didn’t surprise me that much. Uh, they were going to have to work some of that Mahomes magic to find a way to win, particularly with the guys that you mentioned being out. The biggest issue for me, they don’t have an offensive identity right now. They don’t have any place to to go to hang their hat. They don’t have any givens. The best offenses have a given. You can call a play. I’m going to throw it to this guy and it’s going to work. and then everything else builds off of that. And for years, Kansas City had a lot of givens. They go to a lot of different places and have success. So, they’re struggling to find what that answer is right now. For me, they got to recapture their identity. I think they got to get Isaiah Pacha going and start running the football, be physical up front. That’s going to help the offensive line. It’s going to control the game a little bit more. And then you’re going to get your your shot plays off of that. We’ve been talking a little bit uh too much about that lately with them. There’s been an absence of explosive plays. Those receivers being out is a big deal. But to me, get Pacheco going, get the run game going, win ugly against the Giants this week, and then go ahead and get yourself on a little roll. Coach, they’ve give you one quick stat here. They’ve now lost back-to-back one-score games. Entering this season, they had won 17 straight one-score games. I mean, just, you know, they’re not able to close it out the way they used to be. Mike, they really need Rashi Rice back. He’s going to miss four more games as a result of that suspension from the street racing incident from early 2024. But that’s still more four more games they got to get through. And they’ve got the Ravens coming up. They’ve got the Jaguars coming up. They’ve got the Lions coming up before Rice comes back. And again, with each additional loss, it just gets a little bit harder and a little bit harder to be the team that you’re trying to be. And the other thing we’ve talked about is Denver’s better, Raiders are better, Chargers are better. So, this AFC West all of a sudden is littered with really accomplished coaches that are building their teams the right way. The division games are going to be challenging for them as well. I see you didn’t mention they have the Giants coming up on Sunday Night Football, but that’s okay. Make sure you tune in for that. That game’s not a given, by the way. I mean, no, at the beginning of the season, we would have looked at the schedule say, “All right, well, that’s a W.” And, you know, tough loss for the Giants today, but that was a gutty win. like they’re favored, but they’re favored by less than a touchdown. At the beginning of the season, we would have said, “Well, this is probably, you know, this is probably a 10-point favorite or something like that.” They’re, you know, so, yep, they’re they’re 0 for the first time since 2014. We’ll see if they get a win next week on our air. Let’s talk about the Lions, though. Dan Campbell said it was a must-win. Not only did they get the win, but exclamation point against their ex-friend, their former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and the Bears. Yeah, I just love their mentality all week long. the comments after the game last week, the comments during the week, the look they had in their eye. They were edgy. They had a chip on their shoulder. They played angry and they ran the Bears right out of the stadium. 52 points. They dominated in all three phases. And I just love the look of their team. They ran the ball. They were physical. Jared G was on fire. St. Brown was unguardable. You know, those guys diving into the stands, excuse me, at the end of the game, it really kind of showed the emotion that they put into this. And let’s not forget, they had a bad loss last week against Green Bay and a really bad loss against Washington in the playoffs. So, they haven’t won in a while. They needed this one. Yeah. This is a good team that’s learning the growing pains of being a good team. You lose assistant coaches when you’re a good team. When you lose a game that you were expected to win, your fans react differently because you’re never expected to win. And this was part of it. And they desperately needed this win. They couldn’t fall to 0 and2. They couldn’t lose to the Bears on a short week with Ben Johnson, the guy who left from being their offensive coordinator, being the head coach of the Bears. They they they you know to go 15-2 last year in the regular season and to start 0 and2 that was unthinkable and they delivered. They delivered. They’re going to need a lot more of that, but they delivered today. I think the most impressive thing here is I agree with you Mike, they needed a win, but it’s one thing to win. Okay, we squeaked out a win, whatever, against a coach that knows us inside and out. You know, Ben Johnson, there was no secrets there. Like Ben knows all those plays, he knows all those players. But to put up over 50 points to win in the fashion that they did where golf was just so brilliant, Aman Raw was so brilliant. And coach, I thought I think the Lions offense works best when they are running the ball and they setting it up. This is the 10th time that Jir Gibbs and Dave Montgomery have each scored a touchdown in a game. They combined for 151 yards combined. And so I just thought that opened everything up for the passing game and for Gibbs. And so it wasn’t just that they they won the game, but they dominated and that, you know, we we said on football night, you know, restore the roar, right? You know, and so I thought that was they were like, “Hey, we know week one wasn’t what we wanted to be, but we’re not going quietly.” Yeah. A couple new faces on that offensive line. Uh they’ve been dominant up front the last few years. And so last week there were some growing pains. They got better this week. When they run the football, everything else comes off of that. All right, guys. It’s time for our speed round. Earn your Sunday presented by Lowe’s. And we’re going to start with the most impressive win today. We’ll go with you, Matthew. I’m going to say the Colts. You know, I think a lot of people were like, ah, you know, the Colts, is Daniel Jones really your starting quarterback? The first time it’s this game. First time in NFL history that a team scored on each of their first 10 offensive possessions of a game. And they did it against Denver. Widely considered one of, if not the best defense in the NFL. And I thought Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor and the entire offense. I didn’t love how Shane Stiken managed the end of the game just sort of playing for a 60-yard field goal, but top to bottom it was a hell of a game plan. I think the Colts had the most impressive win. I was going to say the Colts I’ll go with the team in the city where the Colts used to be, the Baltimore Ravens. Not because I didn’t expect them to win, but last year they had a tough loss week one in a playoff rematch and they fell flat at home against the Raiders the following week. They needed to get back on track and get that win week two. Philly going to Kansas City and winning on the road. The only one that got the speed round. Definitely. That’s true. Good job. That’s what I’m talking about. Most disappointing loss today. Jacksonville. They had that game one. The starting quarterback on the other side, Joe Burrow, is out. They had that game one. Diami Brown, you know, drops a touchdown. Jacksonville. That was a game they should have won. The Steelers can’t lose the home opener, the Aaron Rogers era. And then you’ve got the the kickoff that Caleb Johnson didn’t realize is a live ball. That was just a disaster for Pittsburgh. They keep playing like that, they’re not going to make the playoffs. You say Jacksonville had that game one. Denver literally had the game one. Yeah. The guy missed the field goal. The game was over, right? And then give them another opportunity to to to go ahead and kick the game winner. So for for me it was Denver. They went on the road and they essentially won the ball game without the late game blunder. What about best individual performance in week two? I mean, Jared Goff 23 of 28, 334 yards, five touchdowns, zero interceptions. He was amazing. I’m going to say Jake Browning, not just because I talked to him after the game, but he’s not even supposed to play today. Yeah, he’s hanging around all of a sudden. Get your helmet, get your ass in there, and he delivered. Even though he had three interceptions, he overcame those interceptions. He hung in there and he got thrown into the end zone. I mean, it really wasn’t the tush push. It was more throwing a kid into the pool when Drew Sample threw him over the goal line, a play that Browning had never practiced. So to to come in cold and get that win was very impressive. I appreciate you appreciating the backup quarterbacks. It’s a hard job. Jared Golf has one for me, but because you took him, I’m going to take M. Jones. Hasn’t played in a little while. Goes down in New Orleans. Couldn’t be a hostile environment. And uh he just was clean. He was solid throughout the ball game. Looked like he played in rhythm. They played well. I’ll give an I’ll give an honorable mention. Jonathan Taylor, 215 yards from scrimmage against that Denver Broncos defense. We talked about it earlier. one of the most underappreciated, underrated players in the National Football League. Uh, talk about a bellcow. I’m really hoping that we end up saying be John Robinson after the Falcons beat the Vikings because we just kicked another field goal and it’s 12 to6. You need to go and watch the rest of this one. You don’t win by kicking field goals. We might shoot. Anyway, if you want to join us for week three, which we know you do, make sure you tune in at 7 Eastern on NBC and Peacock. We’ll be getting you set for the Giants and the Chiefs. 1. this guy saying eagles are a better team…they literally were not the better team on the field. just got the win. Chiefs lost that game way more than the eagles won the game

  2. 2:43 this guy has zero clue what hes talking about. I dont think he seen the game. They did run the ball plenty. It was just poor execution at the most important parts of the game which is a huge no. If they executed what they should have, they would have won. Kelces dropped Touchdown turned interception was the big one. Missed field goal. Kelce dropped another crucial 3rd down catch, which ended in a punt. Mahomes over threw a few times. EXECUTE and the Chiefs will win. I have nothing to really worry about. Especially once Rice and worthy are both on the roster. Thornton is becoming a dark horse star!

  3. Not the first 10 possessions of the game against the broncos you can just look at the colts total points against the broncos and know it wasn't firstl 10 positions of the broncos game come on man in my Chris Berman voice come on man colts score on their first 10 positions of this season going back to the dolphins game that guy sucks I know my facts

  4. At team that beat the Chiefs by 40 points 7 months ago beat them by 3 points today. The Bengals are done for the season. I think this Chiefs team is going to be okay.

  5. 2023 ARROWHEAD EAGLES 27-20 CHEATS… 2025 NOLA EAGLES 40-22 CHEATS… 2025 ARROWHEAD EAGLES 20-17 CHEATS… SB MVP Jalen Hurts in 5 games vs Chiefs got his highest 320 YPG 12 TDs 2 INTs 128.7 passer rating….OWNS Chiefs D.3rd STRAIGHT Win vs Mahomes.EAGLES last 19 18-1(Jalen got Hurt in 1QT) so NOBODY CAN BEAT EAGLES with SB MVP.

  6. What is this?
    10 minutes, that's all??
So much talk about the same things, and the same teams, without any more about so much more that there WAS ( & is ) to talk about?? 🤷🏻‍♂️

  7. Eagles fan here, KC will be fine. One or Two plays different they win that game. Mahomes was off, it happens, this analysis* is poor

  8. the glazing of the chiefs is sickening. they get lucky and ref support for 3+ years in a row, and they are supposed to just magically win forever? f these guys. i'm not even an eagles fan, but did these morons forget that they are the superboal champs? the eagles didnt need to rise up over kc, kc failed to compete with the best

  9. 7:04 What is he talking about? If the Colts scored on each of their first 10 offensive possessions, how did they only score 29 for the game? If you only kick a field goal on every one of those 10 possessions you would score 30. I think he is counting last week's game and then this week's. Only 3 of those 10 possessions were against the Broncos so saying it was impressive against Denver doesn't fully make sense.

  10. why is berry on this show? you have only one x player,, trade the pudnits for real knowledge, garbage show

  11. Who won the game ??? I do believe the Philadelphia Eagles one but you would never know that because of the whole segment was about chiefs

  12. anyone else notice that since the AFC championship game when the whole world called out the referees and put them under a microscope that Kansas City is now 0–3 since then? Hmmmm

  13. I’m tired of everyone saying Mahomes needs help. How about we talk about the bad throws? Kelce drops the ball… that was thrown at his feet. Hold the QB accountable instead of making excuses. Jalen beat them with 100 yards. That’s on KC.

  14. Nick Write will come out on FTF with a durag, black and mild, and bottle of henny for that loss 😂😂😂😂 while Brou celebrates with his robe and sandwich with his feet kicked up 😂😂😂 man. I can’t wait
