A surprising announcement has come from the DP World Tour as Swedish professional golfer Alexander Bork has officially retired from competitive golf at the age of 35. Buork, who turned professional back in 2009, revealed the news on social media just a week after making his 178th DP World Tour start at the Omega European Masters. His decision brings to an end a career that spanned nearly two decades across multiple tours and continents. The Swede first earned his way onto the DP World Tour in 2016 after progressing through the hotel planner tour and two years later he secured his maiden and only title at the 2018 Volvo China Open. That breakthrough season also saw him climb to a career best world ranking of number 59 and represent Sweden at the World Cup of Golf. Buork enjoyed arguably his finest campaign in 2023 when he finished 11th on the race to Dubai rankings. A result that earned him dual membership on the PGA Tour the following season. But after losing his PGA Tour card, he focused entirely on the DP World Tour, competing sparingly in 2025 with just three starts. Reflecting on his journey, Buork shared an emotional message. In 1995, I hit my first golf shots on a range with my grandmother and grandfather. What I didn’t know then was that it would mark the beginning of an incredible journey from Vax Joe Golf Club to junior tournaments and the national team to competing on the Nordic League Challenge Tour, DP World Tour, PGA Tour, and nine major championships. It has been more than I ever dreamed. over 17 professional seasons. Burek amassed 350 tournament starts, 10 victories worldwide, 12 runner-up finishes, and 80 top 10s. His proudest highlights included his Volvo China Open win, and being recognized as the best iron player in the world. Explaining his decision to walk away, Burke said, “I have now chosen to step back and end my professional career. I want to spend more time with my family and I feel motivated to begin a new chapter of my life. I leave with joy, pride, and gratitude. I regret nothing and I’ve been fortunate to experience so many wonderful encounters, friendships, and lessons which I will always carry with me.” He closed with a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported him, family, friends, sponsors, coaches, federations, clubs, and fans, and confirmed that he intends to play one final DP World Tour event in 2026 as a farewell.
