Been wanting to get back into golfing again. Played a lot when I was younger and have a couple hand me down sets that have been pretty good but wanting a set of my own. I have around a $300 budget that is like to stay within and I've been eyeing these two complete sets. Both well reviewed but seems like most reviews come from golfers newer than myself. Any opinions on these?

Honestly just find some hard clubs on facebook marketplace. Most likely will hold up for longer and more reputable
If you like PGX, you’ll love PGF!
It’s not a bad deal, never heard of this set or used them. Controversial take, but you could buy a used set of irons for $200, and buy a used putter and driver for $100. I’d almost rather slowly build a bag than commit to this. You could then buy a hybrid or a fairway wood at a later time when you find yourself hooked/playing more.
Maybe check out the Kirkland set that they sell at Costco. I’ve heard a lot of good things about it as a starter set.
Neither, check out Facebook marketplace
You prob have a local fb marketplace golf group. Check that out.
I’d either get the edge set at Costco or keep an eye on marketplace and get a used set if you’re looking for cheaper. I agree with the other guy saying you could slowly build a set.
DO NOT buy stuff like this. Please find a used set of clubs from a legit manufacturer, you will be thankful you did, trust me
Always do good quality used instead of bad quality new. Spend the same.
The quality will be better with used premium brands, any from the last 5-8 years, than any budget new. Not much goes wrong with good clubs that are looked after.
I recently started playing and got a used set of irons from Callaway pre-owned (which has had some additional sales) and a driver and a 3-wood on second swing. You can put together a decent set for until $300.
Check pawn shops, I found a really nice set of Taylor Mades for under $200. Then bought a driver.
I think Wilson sells a set for around $300. Its not great, but better than these two sets.
Can someone explain what exactly is wrong with these sets? Like sure, name brand used clubs would be better but what is the deal breaker with these?
Look for any brand name used set made in the last 10 years and they’ll be a lot better.
Buy the callway golf set from Costco
Might as well buy the top flight set. At least the brand is something established. I played a top flight set I bought off fb marketplace for $50. Played them for 1-2yrs before I knew what I wanted and built a callaway set to meet my needs.
This is the best option. For $350 you can piece together a full iron set, driver, 3 wood, 5 hybrid and putter. Don’t buy the complete set, just build it like I described. It’ll be way cheaper.
Get the Edge stuff. It’s pretty much the best entry level you can get.

Look for the Strata sets if you are wanting new. It’s a Callaway brand. Or as everyone else said, FB marketplace is the safe bet.
The Callaway edge set at Costco is also a great deal if you can stomach a bit more
Buy used bro
