Oh, you did it backwards. Look at you getting creative. Who me? Can you just give me your biggest secret to chipping? Welcome back to 15-minute golf drills. Today, I’m giving you my biggest secret to chipping. What I believe in most that you have to be able to do if you are going to master your short game. You’re going to need two things for this. First off, you’re going to need your normal wedge that you’re used to chipping with. And the second, you’re going to need another wedge that you are not afraid to ding up. The worse your second wedge is, the better. That’ll make a lot more sense here in just a second. Look, you made it. We’re on the cart path. Now, this is my biggest secret to short game, and this is why you need a second wedge to practice this. If you do this with your gamer wedge, I am not responsible for any of the marks or dings on it. But in order to get good at chipping, you just have to get comfortable with slapping the bounce of the wedge off a specific spot on the cart path. Not the leading edge, but the bounce, the back part of the bottom of the wedge. If I take this wedge in just my trail hand and pick out a spot on the cart path and set up to it, all you have to be able to do is loosely and politely let the bounce of the wedge bounce off that spot on the cart path. It’ll look something like this. Don’t try to fight it. Don’t try to guide it through. Let your hand just go limp and let it slap across that cart path so that you can see it from this side. I am just letting this club head slap across the cart path as loose and as lazy as I can. We are not taking the leading edge and burying it into the cart path with the handle way forward. That’s where the chunks live and that’s where the yips live. Don’t do that. Now, if I were to put a ball on that spot and I set up to it and my only goal is to let the bounce skip off the cart path, not giving a care in the world about the ball, this is what happens. It works totally fine. It does the same thing every time. Once you get that sensation on the cart path, we’ll come back onto the grass with your actual gamer wedge. We’re trying to do the same thing in just my trail hand. I’m not trying to lift the golf ball or avoid the cart path, which would give you a shot that looks like this. And I’m also not trying to bury the leading edge and get the handle way forwards, which would give you a shot that looks like this. Honestly, I clipped that shot a little too good. This is a better representation of what would happen if you drive the handle. It’d look more like that. All I’m going to do is let the bounce skip off the cart path to give you a shot that looks like this. Nice, high, polite, crispy. Didn’t hurt anybody’s feelings. Didn’t hurt your hands, your ego. Chipping’s easy. Once you get what that feels like with one hand, go ahead and put the second one on there. Same thing.
