The Mizzou men’s golf team opened play at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, posting a team score of -7 to sit in fourth place through 18 holes.

Junior Veikka Viskari picked up where he left off in the season opener, leading Mizzou with a five-under 67 – just one stroke shy of his collegiate best set in the third round in Michigan on Wednesday. Viskari birdied seven holes in the opening round, including each of the last three as he is in fourth place as an individual.

Sophomore Trent Mierl and senior Virgilio Paz also finished under par for the round. Mierl registered a two-under 70 thanks to five birdies on the day as he is in 12th place. Paz, meanwhile, carded a one-under 71 – matching Mierl with five birdies and joining him in the top 20 in 16th place overall.

As a team, the Tigers are in fourth place with their score of seven-under par. Defending champion Notre Dame leads the field at -12, followed by Michigan (-9), UNC Wilmington (-8), Mizzou and Michigan State (-1).

Freshman Reese Roberts (+1), junior Bradley Mulder (+5) and sophomore Bubba Chapman (+5) rounded out the day for Mizzou.

The Tigers return to action on Monday morning with competition set to begin at 9 a.m. CT.
