The Callaway Opus wedges released last year were some of the best they’ve ever made. And the Opus SP raises the bar even a little bit higher. The key feature, the namesake feature is the spin pocket which is present on the wedges 54 degrees and higher in loft. Basically, that’s a little hollowed out portion behind the low part of the face. The reason for doing that, a hollow low portion raises the CG. Higher CG means lower launch with more spin, making it easier to hit those tour style wedge shots. Additionally, this has what Callaway calls shape six. It’s the sixth prototype they showed to their tour players and what they eventually decided they liked. It’s a midsize tour wedge. It’s not the most compact from heel to toe, but it is pretty far from some of the oversized cavity back wedges we see. There’s also notable progressive shaping through the set. So look at all the different lofts and figure out which ones you want in your bag and if you like the shape of that particular wedge at that loft because again it does change quite a bit across the range of lofts. But shaping aside, if you want high consistent spin, the Callaway Opus SP is one of the best you can
