Sewickley Academy’s girls golf team wrapped up the season’s first half at 6-2, capped by a one-shot win Sept. 3 against Beaver.
Sewickley edged the Bobcats, 218-219, at Seven Oaks Country Club in a match that took one extra hole.
“The whole team has worked really hard,” Sewickley coach Kelly Beatty said. “Each player has continually brought down her scores to help the team to a winning season so far.
“As we are halfway through the season, I believe the team will still be strong contenders in their final matches. The girls are very excited to keep progressing and they work together.”
The Panthers started out 2025 with wins against Beaver, Ambridge and Seton LaSalle before suffering losses to North Catholic and Ellwood City. The Sewickley linksters rebounded with two victories against Central Valley and another versus Beaver.
Emily Milanovich, a junior, and Olivia Busatto, a senior, have led the Panthers via consistent performances throughout the fall season.
“Emily and Olivia are our first two starting players,” Beatty said. “They are having a wonderful season and had led the team to a great start.”
Sophomore Charlotte Andrews, senior Samaira Bhat and junior Bridget Hulick round out the team’s starting lineup.
Supporting the cause in reserve roles are sophomores Ella Titler and Sophia Senovich and freshman Angelina Rippole.
“We have had an unbelievable start to the season,” Beatty said. “The girls are playing as a team and supporting each other. They are having fun and that is what it is all about.”
Sewickley restored the girls golf program in 2024. The Panthers, whose home course is Allegheny Country Club, won a WPIAL championship in 2014.
Milanovich, who has been golfing seriously since she was 12, was the lone girl on the boys team in ‘23.
“Golfing with the boys was overall stressful,” Milanovich said, “but it was a wonderful environment. It turned me into a better player.”
Playing on the links has become second nature for Milanovich, a two-sport athlete who also competed as a distance runner for the girls track team in the spring.
“I have been exposed to golf since primary school as my entire family participates,” she said. “Most of us can be found golfing at Seven Oaks Country Club, where we regularly participate in club tournaments.”
In track, Milanovich was a WPIAL qualifier in the 800- and 3,200-meter events.
