[Music] Jonah Tong grew up in Markham, Ontario. He’ll be the first Canadian to start a game on the mount for the Mets since 1962 when both Ken McKenzie and Ray Davio started games for the Mets. And now 63 years later, Jonah Tong becomes the third Canadian to start a game on the mound for the Mets. Jonah Tong’s minor league numbers are just off the charts. Sorry, Gary. Yes, just crazy. You want to look at one number? 113 and 2/3 innings pitched. Three numbers, sorry. 58 hits. That’s absurd. And strikeouts 179. I don’t even know how mathematically you get there. Riverz, the rookie catcher, pops his first pitch up. And Batty on the right side of the infield, waits for it to come down. Side retired. The quickest of innings for Jonah Ton. Six pitches. One, two, three. And that’s how his big league career begins. Mets come to Matt. will score. So two out and a runner at third and now Troy Johnston 22 it back to the mound. Tong quickly on it side retire. So Jonah Tong works around the leadoff double and strands Lopez at third. Still five nothing New York and he got him. Curve ball from Tong for his first major league punch out as he gets Joey Weaver. And they’ll take that ball out of play. Another one for the mantlepiece. A real 12-6 curve ball there from Jonah. He gets a 5-ft average vertical drop on his curve ball. Yeah, that’s all at least drop from the heavens. Had quite the rookie year at age 24. 3-2 coming and Todd got him looking at a fast ball. So Taunt with his second strike out and now they’re two away. Just a blazer right at the bottom of the strike zone. Gets the call from Andy Fletcher. Nice job of Torren and framing that pitch. Caught plenty of plate just whether it was high enough. Two two to Lopez and he tries to hold the swing and he went around strike three. Got him with the change up. Third strike out for Tom. Seventh pitch of the at bat to Norby and he got him looking on a fast ball. Fourth strike out for Jonah Tong. One, two, three in the fourth. And Weaver takes strike three call. Fast ball gets him looking. Five strikeouts for Tong. One out in the inning. So MLB put out this photo side by side. Look at that. Lindigum on the right, Tong on the left. Wow. Unbelievable. Again, what we showed earlier, see the open foot from Tong and the foot straight at the plate by Lindigum, but that’s really the only noticeable difference. Well, the other difference is Lindum had that enormous follow through. His dad taught him at the end of your delivery, you need to be picking up a dollar bill off the mound. That’s right. So, he extended that hand and you saw it coming across in a way that Tong see that how far down that hand is. Full extension. Kong does it a little differently. Yeah. Tongue wraps it close into his body. Tong has struck out five tonight. Make it six. Jonah Tom finishes off the Marlins in the top of the fifth. On his 97th pitch, Jonah Tong leaves with an eight-run lead in his Major League debut. Six strikeouts in five terrific innings. [Applause]

He’s a good kid. Bright future
Tong was very average had trouble putting batters aeay. He threw 6 pitches in the first and 91 over the next 4. He gave us no length no bullpen relief.
Giants fan here watching because I heard Tong is a Lincecum acolyte of sorts. He's got the power delivery, hides the ball well, and complements the killer fastball with the low breaking pitch. Rooting for him! I'm feeling the vibes.
Comparisons to Lincecum are laughable. Not even close. Let’s see this kid win two cy youngs his first full two seasons, throw two no hitters and win 3 World Series rings in an 8 year span.
Jonah Tong is the national pride of China
wow!
He's going to start getting tagged once people pick-up on his delivery
If he can keep getting those 6th K calls, he's gunna be something.
We haven't had a decent Canadian pitcher in the bigs since Ryan Dempster.
1:28 Beautiful boy
🔥🔥 we need more personality in baseball
I’ve been watching him in Binghamton every chance I got he’s a beast !
So pride of my Asian brother !
If it wasn't for the umpires miscalls, the kid wouldn't have had the same outcome. And I'm not even talking about these highlights. The plate Ump blew a lot of calls, both ways. Just sayin'.
Nice to see how the crowd reacted to him. Respect.
He looks 15 years old
포수의 미트질에 두명이나 죽었네ㅎㅎㅎㅎ
린스컴과 비슷하긴하네.대성해서 매년 선발로 던지는거 보고싶다~~!
the dodgers is gonna give him a hazing come playoff
I miss Tim Lincecum a lot 😢 He was my most favorite player. I hope he is doing very well.
Reminds me of my favorite pitcher Tim iincicum
Markham represent! third pro athlete after Andre de Grasse and Jordan Romano from the City!
Let's go Hong Kong boy
He’s bigger than Lincecume, Hope he’s half as good 🙏
That third strikeout shows how vicious a Vulcan changeup is
He’s got that little boy smile👍
Yeah, I like this guy.
The tunneling on this fastball and curve is wow
Yikes at that last strike call hahaha
props to the mets for giving the young man some run support.. you love to see it
Might support him well until they play the Yankees lol😂l😅
3:21 lol
Big Time Jonah Tong 🔥
I just love the Keno brothers. They’re so enthusiastic and knowledgeable in antiquities. They definitely need their own reality show.
I’m sorry but his 6th strikeout was a walk. Umpires that game sucked.
